  • Amazing, but i did catch mistakes like at 2.15

  • if you go looking for shite then shite is what you will find , i personally found it absolutely delightful

  • @thelbronius This is not a troll, but a fact. Amateur players might actually think she played perfect or plays perfect every time.....and then feel bad about themselves. I rarely play the type of music Alison plays so it is not about that either. But, no worries, your recordings, uploads and all your subscribers would agree with you that......WAIT A MINUTE! uh oh....somebody doesn't have examples of their playing or subscribers..NONE! feel so sorry for ya dawg! keep practicing and eventually...

  • Great! But , of course this is her in the studio dubbing the live version...This is not Alison playing live. She likely made many mistakes as is common in live performances.....but you all knew that right?

  • @yourbrassinstructor Excellent troll, sir! Your condescending remark is noted. Go back to not being Alison Balsom.

  • @yourbrassinstructor Actually, I hear enough inconsistencies in the performance and with exact A/V precision to think that it is the live performance. In recording studio versions she doesn't seem to have nearly as much ham as live versions, and the quarter note trills being sped up to nearly eighth note trills could also be signs of live performance nerves. I think it was the actual live performance recording, personally.

  • @yourbrassinstructor . I can tell you that Alison performed this live at the Classical Brits. From which this video is taken. I was there. She is an accomplished classical performer of international standing. No dubbing here my friend.

  • could they keep the camera off her arse, it`s most distracting!

  • GREAT video!

  • The very best part is at 1:29

  • 9 people don't know music

  • she is faster than the orchestra..

  • @SchwarzeDose21 the orchestra is slower than she

  • I would be very nervous playing this with a symphony orchestra like this one...If I hit one bad note, they would hate me. Isn't that Steve Forbes playing oboe?

  • sounds nasty. she hits the notes with too much force :/

  • @EricSuarezTrumpet I see what you mean, but I think she is probably just too closely miked. You'd think in this day and age they'd get that right though.

  • @EricSuarezTrumpet I was about to post the exact same thing. Tine Thing Helseths version is much better. Light tounging and just efforless.

  • @EricSuarezTrumpet I agree. Technique is great, but correct interpretation is vital. Wynton Marsalis's version will always be the best for me. I'm not saying this because of who she is, but Alison's presentation is sloppy.

  • I thought I played this well until now. Grrr. A dozen years of playing and I just got smoked. Hahaha

  • ALISON YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!

  • She's so great, very inspiring to see a female trumpet player be successful. I just home media hasn't paid attention to her because of her looks... if someone ugly were as talented as her, would she have gotten this far? I hope so =/

  • 漂亮又性感的女小號演奏家~超棒~

  • Hey milf!

  • When I watch this video I try SO hard to ignore that dress she's wearing and just concentrate on her talent and the wonderful performance.

  • When I first heard this performance on the radio, I thought is was Wyton Marsalis.

  • Reminds me of my third girl friend.

  • She isn't really anything special as a player, frankly. It's just the female, attractive thing - a bit like the first black president - doesn't mean he's any better than that arse-hole who was there before.

  • @Flossferry Um, actually she is a GREAT player, and even IF she was a big fat bloke or an ugly old battleaxe she would STILL be a great player. She plays with sensitivity where required and with balls where required. Astonishing perfection, and power. She is definitely more special as a player than you are as a listener.

  • Assuming I had the ability, I'd dread playing along with an orchestra this good.....If I made mistakes they'd secretly hate me.

  • Lovely. One of my all time favorite trumpet pieces...nicely done. Alison!

  • Music or dress? I can't decide which I appreciate more. LMAO

  • theres just something about a girl playing trumpet really good that turns me on.

  • 漂亮~演奏又棒的女小號家~

  • its steve forbes on oboe!!!!!! 1:29

  • @D0M1NIC4N ....I said the same thing several weeks ago...LOL

  • Sounds like jazz articulation sometimes :D I lover her playing

  • I mean yeah, she's good. Ain't no Rolf Smedvig or Allen Vizzutti though. haha.

  • I'm trying SO hard to appreciate her fantastic ability and ignore that dress she's wearing.......but it's almost impossible. I need to stop salivating.

  • alison balsom is great. I play the trumpet and I also want to be a famous trumpet player

  • Female, blonde, silver trumpet...I aspire to be in her shoes in several years.

  • I would be intimidated by just having an orchestra like that playing for me....If I screwed up they would hate me.

  • after 2:40 she seemed golden but a bit of a slip at 2:47, but perfection is impossible and I'm just nitpicking it was a fantastic performance

  • Pretty music, pretty performer...

  • Notice the big smile on her face near the end...she knows she's given another flawless performance. Incidentally, the guy with the oboe at 2:22 looks like Steve Forbes.

  • i would RAIL her....

  • Брависсимо!!! Абсолютно классическое исполнение!!!

  • such a gorgeous use of contrast at 2:49 till 3:02

  • An unbelievable talent! GREAT!

  • Criticism is healthy so long as it is not hurtfull. Alison is enjoying her playing and it shows. You go for it girl, show off if you like. Its back to the Arban for me and even if I get to your standards which is highly unlikely,I will never be as good looking as you. I hope you will entertain us for many years to come.XXXXX

  • show de bola!!!!

    toca muito e com sentimento...

    showzaço...

  • her playing isn't relaxed, and she's a real show-off.

  • She has a lot to show off about.

  • Magnifique prestation, veritablement! Avec meme quelquechose de surnaturel dans la maintenace exquise! Un tres grand merci!

Herzlichen Dank für dies ausserordentlich gute Darbietung auch esthetisch optisch natürlich!

  • Lindo Musical, Alison é incomparável!

  • ..... the most musical.... set all your differences aside.... she executes some of the most exquisite phrasing I've heard in years..... hardly a miss.... just beautiful......

  • the best part is at 1:29

  • The guy playing oboe at 2:21 looks like Steve Forbes.

  • Alison Balsom is definitely not the best trumpet player, but her looks compensate this :D

  • @MatthewKoRn Just thought I'd let you know you're an asshole for saying this.

  • @wilshires1 Thank you, I'm honoured :)

  • Bravissima veramente... ma anche bellaaaa!!!!!!!!!

  • Hmmm, you say these 2 are the best blah blah blah...If you really want to know where they get the virtuosity they have go look at Adolph (Bud) Herseth and Maurice Andre. They are BOTH the masters of classical trumpet.

  • @schulzy5 And that's simply your opinion. Some would agree but others would not. You are no better than the people you were shooting your comment towards.

    I personally like Wynton's version.

  • There are additonal factors. The make of the instrument, In Ms. Helseths case a Shilke. I don't know about Ms Balsoms trumpet. Trumpets are given different bores to suit individual players on occasion. This will affect the "coloring" of the sound. Ms. Helseth was in a recording studio...Ms Balsom was at a live performance...but either way I enjoy hearing both of them...they're both amazing.

  • You are not a trompetist for saying that

  • are u sure? i play trumpet since i was 8 years old , now i have 19!

  • If you want, but i 'm a trumpet teacher with a Paris price since 20 years, i play 80 solist concert years in france i have playing many with Maurice André. But, i don't like his game of trumpet. She is so speed in her mouvement.

  • i agree

  • The best bits are 1.31 and 2.17. Dancey, bouncy and getting "round the corner" jsut right.

  • That's exactly what I meant, fewbew6....when and IF the critics produce something better than this and post it on YouTube maybe I'll grant them more credence. Until then I dismiss their criticisms immediately as ill informed and not worthy of consideration. I enjoy the redition by Tine Thing Helseth too...but so far as saying one of them is better......?

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 to me it's not that one is better than the other, both have flawless technique, and I think it's all in preference of tone and what schooling backgrounds tehy both come from. Correct if I'm wrong but Balsom is british, and helseth is Norwegian? given how different these areas and cultures are there's a major difference in the "right" sound to have or phrasing, and it's all to the ears of the beholder.

  • When will people realize that there tedious criticizms do not make them sound more intelligent or more accomplished as a musician. She is a true virtuoso of the trumpet, and you can criticize all day, but you must admit it is a great performance.

  • why didn't the camera pan into the fingering on the third page trills?!

  • Cannot stand other people's opinion, can we? Marking my message as spam only proves that I'm right. lol

No need to glid the gold, to paint the lily, Tine is the best!

Dear MAEdalgo, there are live performances of Tine's on YouTube and IMO she sounds just the same - divine.

  • I've attended concerts during which I wished the performance could have gone on forever and this one is no exception.

  • Picky picky picky....When those self appointed critics have a video on YouTube that's better than this I want to hear it.

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 Classical Wynton does a pretty bad ass version this but she is great!

  • knicnak32 I agree 100% with you. Sorry YouTube does not allow more than 1 thumb up.

Tine's sound is so much softer, mellower, easier on the ear, it's like silk. As for Alison, despite her great looks, at times she really forces her instrument and the sound becomes harsh and unpleasant.

To all Alison admirers, just for once, listen to her and Tine with closed eyes, and let your heart decide.

  • @o4o4oto I'm not saying whether I agree or disagree. Keep in mind, this is a live performance. The video of Helseth isn't.

  • play whats written and relax your shoulders. youre freaking me out

  • She plays the piece a tad too staccato for my tastes. The notes should flow, not sound like they are being "cut" out.

  • @iXeno13 you're right.=)

  • phat tone!

  • A bit more simple? She plays everything exactly as my score indicates, it even sound as if she nearly misses an entrance at 2:15, regardless, it sounds rather natural IMO. A lively performance which is only made better in my opinion by the bit of dancing that she does, she demonstrates the musical line in what she's doing, it's refreshing to see someone move rather than be a pole. Of the hundreds of recorded Hummels, I prefer this one. It sounds FUN, she makes it look that way.

  • she's fine. I'd tap.

  • Traumhaft !

  • 2:40!!!! What a skill

  • She is very good, but it's too 'popular'. This is not about Hummel's music it's about Alison and his beauty, etc. Her playing would be nicer if it was a bit more simple.

  • Comment removed

  • Kistrombitas - I have to respectfully disagree to the extent of this: How can you truthfully "know" what her playing is about, or what her performance was about? Regardless of what the record label or producer of the concert thought, her playing is very, very good. She has practiced, no doubt, for many, many years. The comment that this is too "popular" is intriguing to me... classical music is better when it is listened to by the small minority?

  • And how would her playing be "nicer" if it were simpler? She is playing a movement from a piece composed by a classical composer. She had no say in its simplicity factor. If you think she is being "used" by the record label or the classical community in general for her beauty, then I'll agree. But I would not toss that judgment onto her. I do not believe she deserves to be lumped in with them.

  • I think you're right. Alison's playing is very good and I really like her soft tone. I like her CDs as well. It's good if she can make more people listen to classical music. But I miss something deeper from her playing when I listen to this video. Actually I think it's not a very good Hummel 3rd movement. But she's wearing a fancy dress and she's moving nicely so everybody will like it. :) I have a lot of other thoughts but I cannot really share them with you because of my quite poor English.

  • agreed...akarom mondani egyetertek:) az, hogy a zenekar felett all, egy kicsit sok nekem

  • Ááá végre valaki. :) Szerintem is sok amit csinál a leányzó. Ennek ellenére most vettem meg magamnak karácsonyra az egyik CD-jét és nagyon tetszik, a hangfelvételen nem látszik ahogy rázza magát, viszont nagyon szép puhán tud fújni. Kár érte. :)

  • what happened at 3.23 - I thought it was on the recording but it obviously happened?

did she let a little tommy squeeker go?

    Great playing!

  • tine thing helseth does this much better! yea you heard me alison!

  • a knock-out in every way!

  • is she single?

  • It says on Wikapedia : She is reported to have had a brief relationship with the violinist Maxim Vengerov in 2007, and since early 2009 has been dating British conductor, Edward Gardner.

  • Lucky Dawgs. = P

  • How did she get the last name Hummmmel?

  • @gloryboundkev

Haha, making no bones about how hot she is, are ya? xD

  • Wynton just does everything better

  • 2:50

    :O

  • Just Excellent!!

  • СУПЕР!!!!!!!!!! Очень красиво))))))))

  • Certified Intergalactic! Sounds so much better with Alison.

  • nice playing but better body!!!

  • What great performance! I have officially been a big fan of her since I found out about her.

Just one thing: I thought this Trumpet concerto was in E major?

  • Originally written in E but often performed on Eb, and consequently Eb trumpet. Not too easy on Bb and Eb trumpet in E major. The E trumpet I believe was invented mainly for the performance of this piece and is rarely used for anything else.

  • E flat major I think

  • And now I have another inspiration :)

  • me gustaria saber si conoce a ruben simeo los dos son muy buenos

  • they sould do stuff like this in north america.

  • Super.

  • the tonguing from 2:38 to 2:52 was INSANELY GOOD!!!!!

  • Yeah... except the tounging was great the whole time ;)

  • absolutely!

but the tonguing in that time frame caught my ear the most ;-)

  • That's only single tounging. That's really a single alternation trill combined with single tounging. Sounds cool, though, doesn't it.

  • Single tounging...? Really?

  • Enjoyed the dress nearly as much as the music.

  • Super - 5 Sterne !

  • Incredible musicality! Sounds very playful too, you can tell that she's at ease playing this. Oh yeah, and pretty much gorgeous too.

  • wow awesome!

  • That was freaking awesome. Her brilliance could make any other trumpet player jealous in a heartbeat; she's an excellent role model to all other aspiring women trumpet players and men, too!

  • one day I hope to be better :O

  • now that's what I'm talking about!

  • Stunning!
