  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • @60103Henry Thanks Henry - an unexpected bonus on the day. Chris

  • Superb Chris, great bit of camera work and lovely lighting....Bob

  • Some of the best filming i have had the pleasure to see your camera skills are very good

  • I have no doubt that we would have breezed the summit with ease, and i agree totally that the signal check worked out well for all, you as a lineside photographer ended up with a superb piece of footage for all to enjoy. Us on the train enjoyed the recovery sounds of Champion heading for the summit, with your lineside to go with it. Thanks once again.

  • @Mr1056Sultan I'm just sad that the day ended so badly for them with a blown engine on the way back to Eastleigh and an expensive year long repair in front of them. Kinda puts it all into perspective. Chris

  • @khankadet . Gutted also that the day ended the way it did. I was looking forward to the next trip into West Wales in sept. Obviously theres never a good time for such an incident, but a least it compleated our day of 672 miles faultlessly. The fuel issue was not a mechanical fault. I note you are a steam fan rather than a diesel. I have a couple of nice shots in my collection and more to put on sometime, maybe you might take a look sometime. Regards.

  • i got it at atherstone vid uploaded now. shame the engine blew on the ECS back to Eastleigh. good location and film

  • @puffernutterlou I'll check your video out Lou. First I've heard of the later problem. I do hope it's not as bad as it sounds. Chris

  • @khankadet its goin to be 12 months out of action and expensive job. been taken off tours it was down to do

  • @puffernutterlou Oh that's terrible news for those concerned. They have my sympathy and best wishes for the coming months. Thanks for letting me know. Chris

  • This is the best video so far. I was on the train and the climb of shap was awesome. The signal check was perfect, even if just to enable you to capture Champion at her best. A truly great post.

  • @Mr1056Sultan Thank you - you're very kind. A bit of luck helps and although you didn't get a high speed climb it did make the video interestin. Chris

  • Nicely captured again Chris. Glad the boss saw reason and allowed you to film. I know what you mean about diesels but this is a British diesel (as opposed to the Foreign built engines that we now endure). And, as I've never seen a Western class engine before (certainly not in anger) it was an opportunity too good to miss.

  • @LMSStanier Thanks David. She's very understanding and gave her another chance to practice with her still camera. (Cost me a lunch though ;o) only jokiing). Chris

  • Excellent bit of film. That was the best part of the whole trip.

  • @nickd9000 I'm waiting to see XxBec3509's video of the return climb to Ais Gill - hopefully that was without any signal checks. Chris

  • Its not quite the same as a steam engine tamping up the track but a bit better than some modern traction .I must admit I expected it to be faster.

  • @EMuksteam I have been corrected as the previous goods was close enough to give them a red at the foot of the climb and single yellows all the way up. I'd say, in the circumstances that was a well managed climb. Chris

  • me neither Chris, but Westerns are one of my exceptions, wish I had known about it, would have got to whalley for it, if it went that way. I'm glad it was signal checked, you got the sound just right, there are only a few diesels with sound thats interesting. cheers.

  • @noelist

    What??? Heresy!

    :P .

  • @noelist Well I thought it worth the while to hang around for the event too Leon. Chris

  • i filmed Westbury and up the shap,,too carlisle and back down over the S&C your in my film too :) Greetings Sean

  • @XxBec3509 Looking forward to watching your footage Sean. Chris

  • hi Chris

XxBec3509 and Warminstercentral second coach first window :) Hellfire !

we ran out of fuel in Carlisle ,,opps ,,, ,,its was an awesomeday ,,Thanks Chris for uploading ,,this its a great shot ,,, many thanks Sean fav and 5*s

  • @XxBec3509 An interesting trip by all accounts. I'm sure you enjoyed it. I've started watching you great sequence of shots covering the trip. Great stuff. Chris

  • Loveley Video. was on Tour and going up shap on Single Amber all way. What was in Front or was dilerbately checked for good photo opurtunity ?

  • @wilbur6402 66506 on a coal train was right in front and slogging up to the summit at walking pace!

  • @86311WN Thanks - I'd thought (obviously wrongly) that the goods train was some way in front. The memory seems a funny thing when you get older. Chris

  • @wilbur6402 Thanks - as you can see from the reply below the preceeding gods was the cause of the slow climb. Chris

  • Great video. Trust me we were flying untill checked by the signals. great day

  • @Mr1056Sultan Ah, thanks for that. That explains it. Chris

  • Was this the same day as 6201? I must say, I was rather expecting it to be a bit quicker. Had it been signal checked?

  • @AndreiTupolev This was just an hour after 6201 Andrei. There were no trains anywhere near to her so no obvious reason for a check out od my sight. Perhaps someone who was travelling on board will help us with the information. Chris

  • @khankadet I was at Scout Green and D1015 had actually got a red as it approached hence why it was going so slow. 66506 on a coal train was right in front and slogging up to the summit at walking pace!

  • @86311WN Thanks very much - I had (wrongly) thought the goods was too far in front to have had any impact and couldn't see any signals from my position. Chris.

  • @khankadet We were checked at Tebay as a coal train was in front of us. 34 over the Summit s not bad with 13 on and crawling from single yellow to single yellow.

  • @MrFireboxchaser Agreed - given the circumstances I now know (that there was red before Scout Green and single yellows the rest of the way up) it is a very creditable performance. A far more interesting than an easy glide up the climb. Chris

  • Amazing crowds and some very dramatic lighting.

  • @JimTLonW6 It was quite an interesting day weatherwise Jim. I'd been under those clouds to see Princess Elizabeth an hour earlier and decided to move due to the rain falling from them. Chris

  • @khankadet It certainly was an interesting day weather wise Chris. When I went past Tebay on the M6, around the time you texted me to say that that was where you were, it was raining but, when I got to Shap, it was fair to sunny, if quite blustery. That didn't stop a nearby helo from flying though.

  • @LMSStanier For Lizzie I was right under the edge of the showers so decided to move a little further north for this. I was sat at home at 7 wondering whether it was worth going out. Luckily it seemed to get better the further north we travelled. Chris

  • nice 1 m8 i got d1015 tho atherstone on return ,,,upload later

  • @mick5eye Thanks - hope you got a good shot. Chris
