But maoris say they came from a island called hawaiki, someone near hawaii. But possibly polynesians in general may have migrated from taiwan,
@hawaiianfried Hawiki just means home or homeland. There are plenty of places in rarotonga that have that name too. Islands and beaches. You are spot on with everything else though. Before fiji, all Polynesia people migrated from Taiwan through Melanesia where they mixed with the Melanesians. The last common homeland for all polynesian people is Fiji for about 500 yrs they lived there before immigrating and spreading out.
