From a profession in which I read a lot of statements out loud to others, I can speak from personal experience that there are times in which I combine two words or syllables because my eyes are reading faster than my mouth can speak.
Martin Luther King Jr. - Notice the last part, "Junior." If and I mean IF, He was doing what I stated above, I can see how the K from King and the (une) sound from junior could get combined. Sadly, the sound it made, sounded like "Coon" a racist term.
I don't think there's a racist bone in Greeny's body, it was a slip of the tongue. I remember hearing racists say "Coon" and it could be in the back of your mind and it slips out. Doesn't mean he's a racist.
Stop being stupid? Wow, that was intelligent. I've been listening to the man since the early 90s when he was in Chicago and he always seemed very kind.. You judge the entire body of work, not a statement.. And don't be quick to call someone stupid or racist off of one statement.
What an asshole slip of the tongue yeah right he forgot he was at work because no one slips like that. It comes from being a hateful biggot and that part of his personality got so relaxed he said it as easily as he has always said it when his guard is down. Just shows you more and more there really are a lot of angry white men out there. I guess they miss the old days where you could say any ignorant thing that came to mind.
I would have never imagined Greeny saying something like that, especially on air. Disrespectful at the very least. Even if he was fired from ESPN which he will not, FoxNews will pick him up. Those comments are allowed there.
WOW!! Folk act as though they are suprised about this comment. This type of attitude and comments are becoming the norm among white folks these days. There are a ton of angry white men out there and Mike Greenburg is just one of many. So, don't be suprised by his statement he was just being the coward that he is. Bet he won't call one of those brothers in the NFL a coon.
I bet he wont either. Damn some people just be angry for no reason. I hope this clown get fired, I bet his wife divorce his ass then.. big nose prick.
For him to say that he either was thinking or talking about it. People just dont slip up and say coon. Martin Luther Coon and King sounds nothing alike. Hes an asshole and anybody who thinks this is a mistake is an asshole too.
Clearly you are ignorant because you would have noticed that whenever a black celeb gets into any trouble with a white the black is always in the most trouble do your research and rise above the ignorance that you have been living with your entire life!!
No clearly not only are you ignorant but you're prejudice also. I'm ASIAN! I'm sick of people here always ready to call someone a racist to get them fired. If you haven't noticed, Blacks have more rights and freedom now compared to the past. I admit this country had plenty of racists in the past but most of them have passed away. Get over your white guilt! You're so quick to defend a black person but when was the last time you see anyone defend ASIANS? You haven't b/c we don't whine!!
correct Asian's don't say anything bcause they are either to focused on trying to be like whites than they are being themselves; it's not all but majority rules. Asians don't speak up because instead of speaking up they just test nuclear weapons to assure the right time and place to get us all back LOL And again you are very ignorant I come from a very diverse and mixed family so I don't take sides with anyone what's wrong is wrong..I hope in the future you will see this in your Asian eyes! :)
WHAT A RACIST! He forgot he wasn't at his house with his white buddies cracking racial jokes! This guy is slime. I have tuned him off and tuned in Stone & Digital Dave.
He is journalist and has been analyst for ESPN for over 15 years there's no excuse for a slip to this extreme. I was once a fan of the show, but because of his slip up I can no longer watch the show with him on it. I am black I find his comments repulsive. If Micheal Irvin was fired from ESPN for stating that Toni Romo had black ancestors, than how is it that Mike Greenburg is working right now as I'm typing this? Now can we say double standard and UNETHICAL!!!!!!
Who accidentally says coon, especially when talking about such an important figure in our nations history. Only he knows if it was a simple slip of the tongue, but odd that it would be that word.
Most likely he was joking about it prior to coming on or just came back from a right wing website before he went on air and it slipped out.

And while I'm at it, why would he intentionally do that and take a chance on ruining his career and reputation which it took a lifetime to build?

Hahaha. Jesus. That's one hell of a slipup. Not quite sure everyone is jumping on the "OMG HE MUST BE A RACIST" bandwagon.
