@mreliassimpson the fill at 1:38 was FAR from tight and the fill that atom would usually play at 3:05 was perfect why would he change it? sounds too cluttered now. there's lots of other things in the other videos as well, not to mention atom butchers this guy in terms of stage presence. however i've been listening to his solo project and while i find his drumming ok to listen to (it's painful to watch him) he really blew me away with how amazing he is as a guitarist/singer/pianist/bassi­st.

@TheDonelectro while i'll agree that there are much more technically advanced drummers out there than atom i most certainly wouldn't say he "lacks talent". atom always plays whats best for the music "the flight of apollo" "love like rockets" and "the gift" to name a few are all interesting, clever and totally complimentary drum parts. :)

@j1spen Ilan plays the song almost identical to Atom, other than the fills, which I find to me more complex and overall better than a lot of Atoms fills. Atom was a great drummer, but Ilan is a fantastic musician, he brings so much more to the table than Atom ever could, just wait until they record the next album with Ilan recording the drums. It will be amazing!

Sometimes ignorance is bliss, but in this case it's pretty fucking annoying. Regarding the drummers "open-handed" style of drumming, there isn't a good drummer anywhere that wouldn't love to be able to be ambidextrous. There's nothing weird about it. If you're a drummer, you know what I mean. As for not sticking to what Atom was doing before, why should he? Obviously Tom has given him the okay to do his own thing, which was the right thing to do.

In all respect to Atom, Ilan will bring more to the band in the creative field, more than Atom ever will. The guy has his own band, The New Regime, where he plays all the instruments on the record. The music of that band might not be for everyone, but it is something new. I don't think I've ever heard a similar band in terms of the music The New Regime plays. Ilan is talented as hell. Not any Tom, Dick or Harry can be a Nine Inch Nails drummer as well.
