not true for 996 model 4s has same engine. the 4s is essentially a turbo body kit minus the turbo and side intake. has the turbo brakes, suspension and widebody look which makes it heavier with more drag hence the slower top speed
I also have a 2003 C4S and JokeOfTheDay68 is correct. Unlike later versions, the 996 4S model has the same HP (320) as the base Carrera and Carrera 4. The 4S just has the Turbo's brakes, suspension, wider body-work (minus side intercooler intakes), wheels, tires & interior upgrades (including full leather). It also has a model-specific front end and rear connecting light-strip. While it's the best looking of the 996 models, it's no faster than a regular 996 C4.
@ toodyface - Definitely. I got mine January '08 and put on 20K miles - it's run flawlessly with very little maintenance. Choosing a 997 C or a 996 C4S is a matter of taste. They have almost the same power and only Porsche fanatics can distinguish them (chicks have NO clue). While the 996 C4S has AWD and is a little better looking (IMO), the 997 has a vastly nicer interior and is a LITTLE more refined (I drove an '06 997 CS Cab).
Thanks for your info and advice, been looking at prices and different models for some time now. I think the comments you made about a 996s or a 997 are spot on can buy in UK for about £30000. I was thinking that the 997 may hold it's residual value a little better? What do you think.
No problem man. One of the reasons Porsche updates the 911's styling over time, rather than doing complete makeovers, is to protect the older cars' value. The 996 & 997 should depreciate at about the same rate, so I wouldn't let that influence your decision much. If anything, the 996s have probably already taken the biggest hits to their value already and will depreciate less than the 997 going forward. Remember, Porsche is going to release the 998 next year.
Thanks288, That makes good sense. The 996 has taken it's biggest hit and that makes it a awful lot of bangs for the bucks......................And yep, it's true that chicks haven't a clue!

I'd take a porsche anyday man..i agree corvettes are amazong cars but they are basically pure power..I mean really RAW POWER!! In my opinion too much power..Plus the drive a corvette has to offer is nothing compared to what a porsche cayman or maybe even a boxter has to offer..

Hi 228,
I'm thinking of buying a 996 4s. Do you recommend them. Alternatively i'm looking at a standard 997. What do you think?
