Hughie Green often came to our house when I was little as my dad was the organist for many years! I remember Monica came to stay one night, she was so sweet to us and brought my sister and I a doll each. We laughed because I was nearly as tall as her, even though I was only 6 at the time! Very sad that she died. Haven't been able to see the Trevor Eve as I now live in Australia but very glad these shows live on on You Tube and would love to see more (especially any where my dad featured)
I remember watching Double Your Money when I was a kid...it was awful! So was HG... nearly as bad as Cliff Richard, that's how really bad he was, I mean awful...and we have the nerve to go into Iraq forty years after producing the likes of HG and CR. The Birch should be brought back just for CR.
I don't know where HG is, but wherever he is he should be given the Birch...awful, I mean really awful,
Why not a drama about Hughie Green? If your under 35 you would not know he was a star for 45 years and a big one at that.I once meet him in 1978 and I am 46 in the 60s and 70s he was never off tv and Trevor Eve does deserve an oscar AN OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE THE BEST IN DECADES.
I just watched the story of Hughie on BBC4 and thought Trevor Eve played the part really well. Anyone else seen it? Does anyone agree that Trevor looked very much like the late Bob Monkhouse? Maybe if they did his story Trevor should be considered.
Trevor Eve reminded me more of Bob Monkhouse than Hughie Green, and anyways...what the fuck are BBC 2 Playin at,so far they`ve shown dramas about Steptoe,Hancock and i believe 1 about Frankue howard is on the way-where is Hughie supposed to fit in with these screen legends? Hughie fuckin` Green....pah!
Hughie Green liked shagging....so what?!! Docudrama has to be careful : its fiction. Green flew RAF supply planes across the Atlantic in WW2.....that experience was high casualty: did this not have some impact?
I too have just watch trevor Eves portayal of Hughie Green & it was outstanding,i used to watch Opportunity knocks as a kid & was shocked to see what he was like behind the camera.I just wished he'd taken as much interest in his family as he did his audience!
I once meet Hughie Green, and thought what a gentlemen. I take my hat off to Trevor Eve, who has played Hugie tonight on BBC3 Brilliant it was scary IF YOU WATCH ANYTHING WATCH TREVOR EVE as HUGHIE outstanding well done to BBC for an amazing programme.
Id forgotten just how likeable and avuncular Hughie was on screen... but Ive just finished the book by his legitimate son called "Hughie and Paula." He was a pilot in WW2 ferrying planes to the UK from America. He was a brave, talented and handsome man albeit very complex At his funeral, one of the eulogies hinted at a famous illegitimate daughter. This turned out to be Paula Yates. Hughie loved his "little people", his audiences and they loved him. He was a consummate entertainer.

Seeing that promo clip of "999" towards the end reminded me of how spot-on Chris Morris' semi-parody of Michael Buerk on "The Day Today" really was.

This must be one of the last interviews with Hughie Green -- he died the following year. What happened to Monica Rose?

Agree with the Bob Monkhouse comment above. Eve should now play Monkhouse.
