I'll still go see this though :) At least it had a good story to start with - not like some of the junk out there that is just a bunch of CGI and action sequences with a lame story written around them.
It's true that most of EGB's ideas have been ripped off many times - so this old story looks like a multiple rip-off even if it was written 100 years ago. That's just stupid people typing without brain fully engaged (which is most posters on YouTube, sadly).
I am more concerned that an awesome story has been made into a B movie by limited talent in producing/directing/acting. Hopefully this is just a poorly made trailer - but usually trailers make the movie look better, not worse.
People have already pointed out that this movie is a copy of every other action movie that has come out in the last 2 years. All I can say is that this movie looks super lame and most likely will have very little of the substance from the books.

I saw the trailer on the DVD for another film, and had to read the book. Just finished the first book and working on the second. After I read the first book I wondered how Disney could do this film because John Carter is nude through the first few chapters after his arrival on Barsoom. The series started as a serial in 1912 in "All Story Magazine" I assume that it was a "pulp fiction" type magazine.

Walt Disney wanted to make an animated movie about the book in 1930, but they decided that Snow White was a cheaper choice. So after more then 80 years in development hell, Disney is finally making the movie.
Read the books to understand. This is based on a series of books written by Edgar R Burroughs, beginning in 1911. So a lot of today's SciFi (Avatar, Star Wars, etc...) is drawn from ERB.

It's true that most of EGB's ideas have been ripped off many times - so this old story looks like a multiple rip-off even if it was written 100 years ago. That's just stupid people typing without brain fully engaged (which is most posters on YouTube, sadly).
I am more concerned that an awesome story has been made into a B movie by limited talent in producing/directing/acting. Hopefully this is just a poorly made trailer - but usually trailers make the movie look better, not worse.

I saw the trailer on the DVD for another film, and had to read the book. Just finished the first book and working on the second. After I read the first book I wondered how Disney could do this film because John Carter is nude through the first few chapters after his arrival on Barsoom. The series started as a serial in 1912 in "All Story Magazine" I assume that it was a "pulp fiction" type magazine.
