I remember when I saw this for the first time, I was about 8 years old and if I had the chance to see it again I would have the same reaction: pure amazement
@Rivereli9 - Lets see you do something like this. Yeah, that's right, you wouldn't even be able to do anything near as good as this. You get my point? Shut up...
At 3:11 u can see that The lioness dancer had her cloth thing in the otherside and pulled it back just look at one of the dancers u will get my point she messed up
Its So Beautiful, Every Part About It, Especially The Elephants. They Bring Me To Tears. I Watch This About Almost Everyday Im On Youtube.. This Is Beauty
The best experience everrrr seeing this on Broadway, since I apparently grew up in a box, and the first time I ever saw, or was acquianted with the Lion King story was on Broadway! Of course I cried ;D Awesomeeee ;D
@zoobinouchi How about because it's a beautifully done rendition of one of the greatest songs to ever serve as an intro to ANY film. Animated or otherwise.
@zoobinouchi I saw this show live and I bawled my eyes out during the opening. And I still can't watch this video without getting all teary-eyed. Great, GREAT SHOW
@Florida4Lovers93 I saw it on friday in Hamburg, Germany ( I wanted to see it since 10 years, and finally my Parents made it happen for me on my 21st Birthday). And I cried so hardly at the beginning. It was amazing and I want to see this musical 50 times more and in London and in New York... I really love the Lion King... made my childhood....
I've watched this more than a decade ago, but it can still bring tears to my eyes. One of the best disney movie I've ever seen. Awesome musical score :)
I've watched it live. I've no regret. This is really the greatest and best musical ever. Really, u have to watch it live there and then. It's beautiful.
apparently, disney did not want a big over the top opening to the lion king... well what can i say, this is probably the biggest and most over the top opening number in the history of broadway and film, after this, no one mourns the wicked and all that jazz
I saw this musical about 2 weeks ago and after watching this number, I had no words it was so Amazing and it made me realize why I love Broadway so much!
This always makes me so astounded. This show in it's animated form has such majesty, and this performance embodies it so beautifully, it always brings tears to my eyes. I need to see this show before I die.
Me and my wife have seen this 2 times and could see it over 100 times and never get sick of it. It is one of the best musicals we have ever seen and plan on seeing it soon again. We also get chills every time we see it.
@2009JakeT2009 Your right... this is how to open a show. I was blessed to see this live in London and it was just beautiful. Even now when I watch this, I still get the same feeling... just breathtaking!!
I saw this live over 11 years ago for my 21st Birthday. You REALLY have to see this live. Seeing it screen doesn't even come close! Make me cry each time! so powerful!
I'm so happy this musical is still playing in London! I really want to go! Already crying seeing this video, don't know what will happen when I see this in real.. :p
My first time seeing this - July 1997: Ordway Theatre...I was 5 The Lion King has been my favorite movie/play ever since, and I'm so pumped for it to come back to it's home turf this winter.
I can't believe how hard this made me sob. And this isn't even the first time I've watched this! I'm going to see it on tour next weekend and I cannot WAIT!
I love watching shows like this, performing is the thing I love and want to do for the rest of my life, and I feel like not a lot of people realize how much drive and passion is takes to do something like this, I just hope I can be just as amazing as them one day (:
I saw this with my parents I was around 9 or 10 at the Pantages in Hollywood and I'll never forget it. I think was sitting one seat away from the right center aisle and maybe less than rows away from the stage. When I saw those animals come up beside me, I lost it. Complete waterworks. I knew they were people dressed as animals but to me, they WERE real animals. Even now, over 10 years later, it still gets to me.
Let me say: I usually think mainstream theatre to be disappointing and commercial. I usually stick to sondheim, herman, rogers and hammerstein and all the rest. But this is something else. If you haven't seen this show: see it. One of the most memorable nights in the theatre ive ever had.
I saw the show. We had tickets right on one of the inside rows... a cheetah, giraffe and elephants passed by me so close I could touch them.. Me my mom were crying. I go: "Oh my god.. *sob* why are we crying." my mom: "I don't know!" FRICKING SEE IT BEETCHES!
As of June 26, 2011, the top 3 longest currently running Broadway plays are 1) Phantom of the Opera (#1 overall), 2) Chicago (#5 Overall) and 3) Lion King (#7 Overall).
I am 19 years old, and The Lion King is my favorite movie. Ever since the Broadway show opened in 1997 I have wanted to see it. When the touring show came to my area, it was way too expensive for me to go. This weekend, I went up to New York City and fulfilled my lifelong dream. I couldn't even get through the first 5 seconds of Circle of Life without crying. This is a spectacular show. A must see. Broadway at its most innovative.
when i saw this in philly there was a korean actress in the backround, which i know doesnt matter but it was one of those things like, "Really? did you u think i wouldnt notice her?"

@Milkdudds92 this was my first broadway too and I was 21 ( a gift from my friend who is into being in shows) I cried throughout the whole beginning, it was just beautiful.
Saw it yesterday and even though I had seen this video, it's nothing like experiencing the performance in person. Definitely had tears in my eyes because it was such a beautiful opening.
Somebody was hittin some killer high notes there near the end.
