Who are the blacks with the saxophone? thombs up if ur black and lestin to Shane/the pogues/the popes..am i the only black? don´t want to feel alone anymore..
Shane is all that's right in music. A heart & soul & voice. Top it all off with the pure poetry of the song. Beauty thru the ears, not the eyes. In these sad times, if your not eye-candy, your fucked. We can thank MTV for that. Fuck you very much!
I can agree that it is indeed life changing to see these guys.I've held onto them since 1984,which is when I saw them. Its odd,but though Shane's such a ragged looking guy,he was pretty damn sexy.Odd,I know, but there it is.Lol!)
This song has always made my spine tingle. The melody is so simple and repetitive, yet it is a perfect background for some of the most sublime poetry ever written. 'Some of them fell into heaven, some of them fell into hell'. Expertly slurred and harshly sung, it's one of the most achingly beautiful songs I have ever heard and probably ever will. Shane's skill with the word is vastly under-recognised.
It's not FUN seeing Shane and the Pogues. It's LIFE changing. You'll never ever be the same. Straight up, drunk or high, or unconscious, doesn't matter. If you have one spark or star of Irish in ya, you will just be forever changed. He brings out the poet in anyone w/a soul, he will bring tears flat out of your heart you've never felt. Stars fall out of the sky every time the man sings..
@tabacblonde thank you,i keep trying to tell people shane is and was a modern day poet.people just look at his drinking and his teeth!!!!.tha mans a genius as was kirsty macColl.no irish in me but after seeing the pogues in 80's at 16 i wish there was!!!
couldnt have put it any better in thousand years and im a thoroughbred scotsman - saw them in glasgow with my ex wife a few years back there were tears of joy running down my face
@dougiealonso hello from the States. I am flattered, but mostly delighted that Shane brought so much joy to you. He does go straight to the heart..........the world is divided into 2 types: those that 'get' Shane and those that don't. lol. He is in a class unto himself.
A new song for me.. by reading Steves comment, sounds like a lot of fun seeing them live. Reminds me a little of Tom Waits.. the lead singers style. Great sound and atmosphere anyways!
I've seen them twice back in the 80s, with Shane holding a bottle of wine in the same hand as the mic and drinking it between verses. We were all covered in beer & wine, a great party atmosphere - great days.
pissed and brilliant- a winning combination if you can pull it off
