  • @krausewillhunt1 Go Google Mary Z Cox. She has a number of excellent cd's and tab books and this tune is in one of them.

  • for some reason I always liked the banjo versions of Dixie the best. but now I know for sure. I always wanted to play a banjo but I decided to stick with my guitar. One day I will buy a banjo and learn how to play Dixie for that is my favorite tune, after that i wanna learn "Free Bird" on the piano like Billy Powell played it on live performances, after that i can die in peace, with a Dixie flag tied in my hands.

  • Deo Vindice!!

  • Just amazing.

  • That is some fine pickin' there sir.

  • Thanks ! @HazMatMedia

  • wow, beautiful. what tuning are you using? and thanks for posting!

  • @granfalloon85 Double C . Glad you enjoyed it.

  • I love this version of dixie, what make/model of banjo would you recommend to someone looking to get into clawhammer style banjo? Thanks for the music by the way.

  • @hornbuckle56 Thanks for the comment, just get the best you can afford ! You won't go to far wrong with either a goldtone or a deering

  • a great tune played on a great instrument!

  • WHOOO! man are you gettin paid for that? cause you should man i wanna learn how to play this song and that instrument so badi'm trying but, darn man i got YEARS to go befofre i get that

  • Great Job.

  • Great work

    Respect from Greece !

  • @jdoll27 This was based on hearing it played by Mary Cox and she does have Tab books for her cd's ......go search ! oh and glad you liked it .

  • My finger just twitched and I think I deleted your post ! oops !

  • @silasbanjo haha that's ok. thank you very much for the info. I'll start working on it now. Good work and take care!

  • ohh man, so good! thanks for posting this!

  • I can't find a decent tab for this song...

  • That was fantastic!

  • Nicely played, both slow and fast! It's tough to keep a nice clean rhythm at slower tempos.

  • now I must ask what cords you paly in that key.

I have just been playing about a year

  • No chords really, just melody and clawhammer. Do a search for tabs. theres lots out there

  • what key are you playing in. Sounds great And you don't have to go up and down on the neck

  • Glad you liked it. The banjo is in double C.

  • Good Job. I like that.

  • That was terrific Tom! An excellent illustration. It's always intrigued me how so many of those old tunes (adopted by both sides in the American Civil War) can be either played slowly or fast with such differing effects - Marching Through Georgia, When Johnny Comes Marching Home, Yellow Rose of Texas etc. - they all have it

  • Thanks very much. What is it that makes that possible with a tune ? You cant do it with any tune.

  • Nicely done, far cleaner than I managed to get it.

  • Just keep playing Dan.........No not that Dan I mean a different Dan

  • Good work Tom - that had great drive especially when it sped up

  • Thanks James. I am loving your Uke stuff !

  • Thanks. The first bit should have been slower I think but I reckon its harder playing well slowly than faster er...if you know what I mean !

  • Glad you enjoyed it Andy.

  • That was excellent Tom

  • Great playing sounds perfect.

  • Thanks very much, but perfect ? noooo !
