Good luck Mark, my own experience is that just cutting out the sugar and processed food has worked like magic - 35lb loss in less than 6 months. All you have to do is keep the insulin levels low and the fat falls off, no hunger and no fad diet stuff, just decent, fresh food. Once you manage to retrain your taste buds from the sugar craving that most of us have even greens like broccoli taste sweet (great accompaniment to a whopper steak in cream sauce!) It's all about insulin spikes.
I know I am a bit late to the party, but never shy to toss out an opinion, I thought I would offer one additional thought. It may go beyond just the carbohydrate counts too. I have known a lot of instances where someone will start upping a certain food type or sweets and cause the stall as well while perhaps keeping their overall or net carb count the same. Dairy (cream cheese) and nuts (almonds) are notorious stallers for me.
A fat fast will accomplish the same, but might also cut good items.
By the way, Mark, I agree with you that embarking on a low-carb plan IS about shedding pounds off your body as you are getting healthy. But the key principle to remember is that weight loss is merely a side effect of healthy living. Eating a high-fat, moderate-protein, low-carb diet will change the way your body functions to run at optimum performance and your body can't help but shed the pounds in the process. THANKS for your compelling comments and I wish you well in your continued journey.
Great points, Mark! If you are on a good plan and you've been successful on that plan when you hit a stall, then it's unwise to try to shift your strategy. Just keep at it and the weight loss will commence at some point. But keeping your eye on the carbs is ESSENTIAL at all times.
