  • please dont get rid if this!!

  • i done this methor step by step and my eyes (which are the things i want to keep the colour ((green))) are some sort of orange, it doesnt make them green .... what can i do?

  • @Nephiy I will (hopefully) wind up making an easier vid to follow, it should make things a lot easier to understand. In the mean time you could try opening a new image> duplicate layer> on the new layer click colors> greyscale> choose the average> then go straight to erasing part of the greyscaled image so the color on the bottom layer comes through.

  • LMAO @ "average" & "It's alive!!!"

  • Wow, thank you so much! This worked perfectly for me and I now know how to do it. (:

  • @BladedVelvet everything goes smooth until the paintbrush step :( help !

    Nice job.

  • good! thank you :)

  • Thank you so much yours was the shortest and easiest to understand =)

  • Thank you very much yours was the shortest and yet easiest to understand =)

  • Thank you so much for the helpful video! I have a question though. When I try to use the eraser on the edges, it continues to color it with original colors instead of erasing. Do you have a suggestion what I might have done wrong? Thanks!

  • Photoshop can be free too!

My brother downloaded Adobe Photoshop cs4..But I'm using gimp..it's easy and u can do the same things like in photoshop... :)

  • you have a very relaxing voice :D

  • Lmao!

Thanks so much for making this video.

It was simple, I found that besides the simplicity of your explanations,

it was fun to listen to you as well x'3

  • I tried GIMP and I must say it's indeed a simple tool to manipulate photos..no need of Photoshop and Lightroom..Same level as Photoshop and it's free..

  • how do you zoom into the picture on a laptop?

  • I think this is a great tutorial and thank you so much for sharing it!! As for FiftyFiveguy's remark. I have a friend that is a professional photographer and she paid for PhotoShop and is extremely jealous that I am replicating her professional photos with Gimp so I'd say its a darn good program for being free ;-).

  • great so simple and works :) thank you

  • I did everything you said but i dont have the layers toolbox...How do i get it?

  • Okay so i did everything you said but i dont have that layers toolbox.. How do you get that?

  • 1 person missed the like button for this beautiful and helpful tutorial

  • Great tutorial.

  • Best and easiest tutorial i've tried so far. thank you. ~ ed

  • UHM, i cant get the layer box open, i need help

  • @ruthiecutes re-install GIMP might help.

  • thanks girl. (: this video helped me a lot.

  • Great video. Thanks so much for posting.

  • Amazing. Works perfectly. Thanks so much for this tutorial.

  • I did everything step by step and it won't let me do it

  • I don't really know what to do about that. It seems that some people are able, and some people aren't, I don't know how to fix that.

  • @Fiftyfiveguy Eh, GIMP is for those of us that have bills and can't afford the luxury of shelling out 600 bucks for photoshop.

  • @BladedVelvet i hear ya, i don't have photoshop for that reason. ive just had lots of problems with the program glitching is all. nice job on the work overall. didn't mean to bash ya :D

  • @BladedVelvet My dad got a computer already with Photoshop in it c:

  • @BladedVelvet ????

not really, is for those who don't make money as photographers and still want to touch up their photos.

why spend that kind of money on a software that will be obsolete in a couple months

  • @bassnerd11 same here. i did it step by step, the same with photoshop tutorial, just don't work. i don't know. perhaps it's just me.

  • @bassnerd11

you have to make sure you have the correct layer selected.. everytime I have trouble it's because I've either got the wrong layer visible or I've missed something.. Like I will do add layer instead of "duplicate layer".. I hope this helps! And thanks for the Tutorial BladdedVelvet :)

  • @bassnerd11 Do you have a tablet lappy? That was my problem at first. I can't seem to get GIMP to work with my pen. It'll select things and all that, but it won't *use* the tools. Worked with PS, but can't get it to talk to GIMP.

BladedVelvet, thank you so much for this simple technique! I just used it to create a card for my cousin's wedding, and had already spent at least a half hour watching other vids and reading tuts online, and this was by far the easiest method :) Thanks again!

  • Thanks , this really helped , i did a good picture of Florence welch , just showing the colour of her hair :) 5* and favourited

  • Thank you for this tutorial! Fast and simple! 5*

  • Hey so im doing a picture of my eye, up close and im making the iris colored but my eye's arn't blue like i want them. But my moms are, is it possible to replace her iris on my eye? good tutorial either way!!! helped me alot!

    Thanks

    Mr.Appleseed

  • Yup, it's possible, but you could also just re-color the iris. Has a tutorial on that as well :3 changing eye color in gimp.

  • If you kept the colored photo on the bottom layer yes.

  • Thank you SOOO much. I tried other tips/ tutorials, and they had a slew of unnecessary and confusing steps. You helped me alot.

  • hey

i can't get the pensel to color? what to do??

  • Try using the paintbrush tool and try making it a little bit big, that's the only thing I can think of, and make sure you did the layer mask.

  • Your fantastic lol. I would pay money if everything in life I had to learn could be explained by you. "it's alive!" lol But really this is awesome. I paint and draw in gimp and only rarely mess around with actual photos and this was a fun little thing to experament with. Great video and very simple thank you!

  • Ahha :3 thank you kindly. I am sure you will have fun with gimp :3 I do all the time.

  • a ha...I did do a layer mask, but when I was first setting up the picture I was following some other instructions I found online. They had me copy the image differently....but I've learned my lesson and I'll stick to your videos =] lol thanks a lot

  • -chuckles- no problem :3 Usually most any method will get the job done, but they all seem to work differently.

  • hey, i used you vidio to make my own pictures, and it worked perfectly thanks!!! but when i tried to open another picture, they layers thing didnt some up, so i couldnt duplicate it or do anything with it. I really need help, because this way is really easy!!

    please help me!!!!!!!!!!! thanks

  • go to Windows - Dockable Dialogs - Layers :3 It'll bring the layers thing up.

  • Whenever I start the painting it paints in a transparent pinkish colour instead of bringing out the colour from underneath. What am I doing wrong?

  • Did you remember to do a layer mask??

  • Hi, great tutorial, but I'm actually having the same problem that is described here. I do have a layer mask. I feel like I'm following your instructions to the smallest detail, but I keep putting a garish red coat over my image, rather than bringing out the color underneath. Any help would be appreciated.

  • I have no idea how to fix it. It could be we are using different versions of gimp, and thus certain things do differently than they would otherwise. I will redo this with the latest version and see if I have the same issue.

  • Thanks for responding. I ended up getting it to work. What I did was increase the scale of the paintbrush, and for some reason it worked after that.

Thanks very much for the great tutorial!

  • You're welcome :3 I never got mine to do it :p and gratz on figuring it out.

  • thank you thank you thank you <3 =][

  • thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!

  • thank u !! :)

  • yes, this has the shortest steps to selective coloring. ..:).....thank you.

  • haha...uhmm.."BladedVelvet"...thanks for the vid...but this time..for example..a photo is already greyscaled...how do u color a part with another color but not the original color??

  • I do have a video that might help with that, look for "Coloring in GIMP Tutorial" it takes a sepia pictures and makes it colored, same principle as greyscale. (if the modes don't work, then keep messing with the modes and opacity until you find what you need)

  • BladedVelvet.......I love you.

  • Uhhhm o.o; thank you

  • thank you.

  • do you need to download the program because i dont want to get any viruses

  • Yes you need to download the program, it can be found at gimp (dot) org and I've been using it for years and never contracted a virus from it.

  • is there any special tools you need or can you just do it with ur mouse and computer

please i need to know thank you!

  • I just did this with my mouse. I haven't got a tablet yet, so yeah a mouse is all you need.

  • How cool, thanks for the tutorial , great vid! ^_^
