Isn't her first and last tumbling pass the same? I mean she didn't change it up with whips or punch fronts or anything. Isn't there a penalty for doing that?
Um...this is essentially the exact same routine as Teodora Ungureanu's from 1976, and the same music as Mary Lou's from 1984. Did Bela just really like reusing floor routines?
In general back in that era the Romanians always had HIDEOUS choreo....was this Marta again??.....Nadias wasnt that much better if were being realistic (watch 1978 worlds) I can see what some people mean when they compare them with the Russians.........there really wasnt any competition and it could well be down to the choreo NOT the gymnasts real artistic capabilities........
this routine is extremely similar to teodora u's in 1976.. it helps they have the same music! but it looks like they recycled the routine and just added some new dance
@Mora626 It's an old Romanian Traditional Song named "Sanie cu zurgalai" (Sledge with bells). You can find it on youtube. It has been sang in NY for the first time by Maria Tanase before 1940, to the World Expo. Eventually the French singer Edith Piaf took it in her repertoire as "Johnny", the same version being sang later by Vaya Con DIos.
Eberle's gangly, rather awkward 'artistry' was not comparable to the superbly choreographed routines of the Soviets-Kim and especially Shaposhnikova. Nadia's was better too with more elegant dance, and lines. Of the little girls Maxi Gnauck was the best, followed by Polozkova, and Eberle. I will always feel Davidova's routine should have been in finals-and won.
I disagree. Did you ever see the performances of gymnasts in Eberle's day? Maria Filatova, Yelena Davidova, Teodora Ungureanu (who performed to this before Eberle) and Natalia Shaposhnikova-basically ALL the Soviets could have shown Eberle a thing or two about how a routine should be done. Her form was atrocious-look at the Soviets of her day and you will see what I mean.
Yes I know what you meant-I just don't consider Eberle artistic in the least. At least she has choreo which is more than can be said for gymnasts in recent years.
I disagree with you audie...I think she has a different style which does not mean she is neccersarily less artistic....
She is considerably thinner than the soviet girls, and being too thin (which it must be said, she is) means that those same lines cannot be created, but its not through less ability/training. She is very balletic in her own right though, but definitely a less mature and graceful quality then the soviet girls.
Teodora Ungureanu 1976 floor exercise at the chunichi cup.... same music and same middle tumble....and same rolls....

No fair judging... comparing Emilia's 9.85 to Nelli's 9.95.
Meaning that Emilia got 9.80 by 2 judges, and Nelli got 10 also by 2 judges...
In my opinion all the 5 gymnasts (Natalia, Nadia,Maxie,Nelli and Emilia) had to get a 9.90 note.

Teodora used this music too I believe.

Yes she did-before Emilia at the 1976 Olympics. :)

Oh I just read that she was beaten and starved by her coaches...that explains her expression.
Kulpa71 2 years ago 5
I like this routine, and her style. She doesn't look very happy though... I worry about some of those girls...
Kulpa71 2 years ago 4
she used to be my coach!! and the reason she is so skinny is because they didn't feed her that much

@Twilightlover18ful
They didn't starve her! They were on a strict diet!

@ThePingShowJL How do you know? Where you there? She was like a stick and has said they were always hungry.

I think that Mary Lou Retton's routine to this music was so much better.

I think you're over analyzing, if I'm being perfectly honest
compared to todays routines, this routine has much more artistry than what we see out a lot of the top gymnasts

I've seen the routines, I have the competitions on my computer
I said that it was much more artistic compared to the top gymnasts of TODAY, not back then
