Brovelli attracted attention to himself by running all over the Rams and their overrated "seven blocks of granite" defense. Angels didn't score but the Gaels won. For some reason New York was surprised by this - go figure.
The Dark Angel of the Moragas was Angelo Brovelli. Brovelli (#29) got the nickname whe Madigan's student PR man was asked what his nickname was. He came up with it on the spot. There was a movie playing at the time the PR man knew about called "The Dark Angel." Everyone had a nickname back then...except Brovelli. He barely made the travelling squad for the first big game between a west coast team versus an east coast team - in this case the Fordham Rams.
