I remember from school that it took place in China, and that the magician (who was African) was not also the Vizier as is known in Disney's version of this story. There was no Arabic transcript of Aladdin and the author is unknown. The story (as well as a few other stories) wasn't actually in the original transcript of 1001 Nights, but was added in later.

All these folk tales need to be made by the countries in which the stories came from, the stories need to be as written.
Disney has done a great job of taking all these great folk tales from other countries and screwing them over to make them more kid-friendly.

I remember from school that it took place in China, and that the magician (who was African) was not also the Vizier as is known in Disney's version of this story. There was no Arabic transcript of Aladdin and the author is unknown. The story (as well as a few other stories) wasn't actually in the original transcript of 1001 Nights, but was added in later.
