Who ever you are, you are very lucky in receiving a lot of positive feedback on this project. Personally, I wouldn't dare to post a work like this on youtube. Very messy, and misspell words to top it all off. You have a lot of courage, and admired that. Good luck in your futures postings.
@Bigjuanjsjw It will change the flavor slightly. If you use salted or unsalted the flavor will differ. But some like butter frosting over southern white icing. The texture will be more spreadable than with shortening. Cocoa will give you chocolate. You'll have to test it to see if you like it more sweet or less. But that's not a bad job, is it? =~D
@ilinaeternity this is absolute rubbish! Do some research and you will see that the ONLY health concern in the past, was the amount of trans fat that was in each typical serving of shortening. This has now been rectified, and Crisco only contains -1g of trans fat per serving. You really should find things out before you start warning people that they are dangerous!
@trulykiwi Any amount of plastic in your body is bad for you. It accumulates in the end. More importantly, butter isn't bad for you (and shortening tastes like fucking shit). Also, I'd love to see your sources on how trans fat is okay and maybe i'll send you a few links or too myself.
@ilinaeternity Rather than getting on your high horse, you should READ a comment properly! Nowhere in my comment did I even elude to the fact that Trans fat is good for you - that would be insanity! My comment referred to the fact that as a result of HIGH trans fat originally, producers of shortening have REDUCED the amount in their products, to a level that is safe. (-1g per serving in the case of Crisco) - Your comment about butter being good for you.... "Have you researched high cholestorol?"
@trulykiwi Yes, sir or maam, i read your comment completely. Butter in moderation can be good for you. Like I said, any amount of plastic is BAD FOR YOU. PERIOD. Butter (in small amounts) is a million times better than trans fat. Research has concluded this. I sure hope you don't feed margarine or shortening to your children and give them the real thing. And you might wanna take another look at the other ingredients of the "0 or very little trans fat" products. Denmark has banned trans fat.
@ilinaeternity Well of course butter is better than trans fat. Butter is a natural product and trans fats are man made. I don't eat margarine at all, and I use shortening in cooking, sometimes. Generally speaking I am a butter person, but because that's what I choose to do (based on flavour alone - not health) doesn't mean everyone else should. Denmark is slightly bigger than New Zealand in terms of population, so it is insignificant in the grand scheme of things - just like New Zealand :-)
@trulykiwi What? Shortening is as bad as margarine. And once again BUTTER IS HEALTHIER THAN MARGARINE. Look it up, I can't post any links here. And how does the size of the country matter? I'm pointing out that people are realizing how poisoning trans fat is, and are taking measures. Also, trans fats in restaurants are banned in New York. A movement is starting to remove poisons.
@ilinaeternity I have seen no evidence anywhere that shows me shortening is bad for you. It is derived from vegetables and the trans fat in it is so tiny, it is well within safe boundaries. I am one of these people that deal in "fact" and not "hearsay" - I do not "follow thew pack" because it's trendy. I eat what I like the taste of unless it is proven to me that I am being poisoned. I have never been sick (other than a cold every now and then), weigh 65kg, have raised kids, and cooked for years
@trulykiwi Oh my goodness LOOK THE INFORMATION UP. Research has confirmed so many times (RESEARCH, NOT HERESAY) that trans fat is bad for you. Do you even know how trans fat is made? The vegetable oils go through a process called hydrogenation using a chemical reaction with H2. This is creating a chemically made substance, like high fructose corn syrup. Basically, it makes no difference that it came from unsaturated fat, because it is now a totally new substance. Did you missed that critical pt?
@ilinaeternity You have totally missed the point of this!! For every (almost) substance known to man, there are SAFE levels! Salt, sugar, wheat, pollution, salt water, fruit, antioxidants, etc etc etc - all of these things (including BUTTER) has a SAFE zone! Keep within those RESEARCHED and SCIENTIFIC and BIOLOGICAL limits, and you are safe! Less than 1g of trans fat per serving is considered all over the world as a VERY SAFE level! (unless of course you are eating 10 or 12 servings a day)
@trulykiwi No. Certain substances are not good for ANY CONSUMPTION. Like plastic. And like trans fat. Once again, it's like high fructose corn syrup. Man made through a chemical process that is alien to our bodies. You can't have such a strong opinion without research, sir or maam. You must not have scientific knowledge on how certain substances work in the body. Please research. Bye.
@ilinaeternity Thank you!! This is hispanic frosting. I should know, mom's puertorican, This is her exact recipe. When you're being told: "just milk" Please use half/half or cream. And when you're being told: "all vegetable shortening" That's a death sentence. Please use butter.
@mejafrin u can use butter, it will give you a better taste it will be called buttercream frosting, but for best results use both shortening and butter.

@mejafrin Don't use shortening. It's pretty much artificial, and is many times worse than butter. It is a man made, fake, heart attack "food".
