Buddy paid for the plane for him Waylon and Richie Waylons little brother . Waylon and Richie gave up there seats. A little kindness that brough a lot of people back to there down home roots. God bless America where going to need it
besides the Big Bopper was the one who took that seat, as if you know who that is please learn your history before speaking such blasphemy. I'd be willing to bet you think Hank SR and kid rock died in that crash too,Dumbass!
Wow! Waylons Outlaw attitude just burns in his voice in this cover. That and, in my opinion, the best song Mr Mooney spun his magic on gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. spun his magic
Ladies and gentlemen, you just heard Waylon Goddamned Jennings wear this song out. There will never be another artist like this ass-kicking, legendary Texan. R.I.P., Waylon. Hosshead forever!
Just listened to the Allman version...comparing rhythm sections, Allman version kinda lopes along but Waylon's version comes at you like a freight train...Ritchie justs KICKS IT and I think Waylon had the best rock and roll drummer in Nashville and was the absolute best at playing rock and roll drums to country songs...none of this great music might have never happened when Waylon was about to pack it in and head back to Texas, Ritchie told him there's another way - it's called Rock&Roll
This is the best version of this song I have ever heard. I love the Allmen Brothers but damn. I have only just started getting into Mr Jennings music, it feels like I have missed out on alot of good music over the years.
Thou shalt NOT make comments about the dislike number!!! ever!
Continuing to do so in the future will only provide a case for the judges of the biggest-douche-in-the-universe contest... who, later on, will send you a handwritten message in a wax-sealed envelope, letting you know: "you ARE the weakest link; goodbye!"
This is awesome. I never knew he'd covered it. I prefer Gregg Allman's voice for it but this is a different version anyway. A comparison is inevitable and stupid at the same time.
I have seen one time Waylon on video from the mid 70's do a live take of this song. A guy on Waylon's website linked it and then took it off. If any body has it I would sure like to see it put back up on YouTube. I love that guitar lick! By the way, his 1974 album "Ramblin Man" was re-released a couple of years back that has this song on it. I can't see how Willie hit with this song in 1980 when Waylon's version is far superior!
sanj it's because Waylon was THE MAN!!! The man KICKED THE DOORS DOWN in Nashville because he was all about unique, individual style. His style & legacy right up there with Hank Sr, Elvis & other legends whose music will go on forever.
This verison is amazing. I love the Ullman Brothers' of course, but Waylon's voice and guitar playing really gets to me. Also, the Meters do a great version live-I saw them at Tipitina's back in '94.
This song. Biggest inspiration. Outlaw music.

Top 3 interpretations of "Midnight Rider": 1. Waylon, 2. The Meters, 3. Allman Brothers.
I saw The Meters perform "Midnight Rider" at Tipitina's in '94 on a rainy night---their version was tight!
