Hello everybody! I´m a huge Gilmour and Floyd fan. If you are too, please visit my channel and watch my videos. Thanks and hope you all enjoy some of them.
What the fuck, who edited this solo? David's playing on this song is simply astonishing, why not cut one of the verses instead of chopping the solo. I was really getting into that!!
This is awesome btw is gilmour using a big muff here? Im trying to figure out how to get a good big muff sound. well i have a little big muff but same thing right?
anyone can recommend a song that gilmour uses a big muff in? thanks
Strat -> Muff -> Delay -> Hiwatt amp = Comfortably numb Solo on The wall album.
Some songs on this album have a rotary speaker for the guitar, some use a Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress Flanger.
The muff, like other distortion fx (like treble boosters & fuzzs) must be played in front of an already overdriven TUBE amp. The pick attack and specially the left hand bending & vibrato is crucial in Gilmour style.
By the way, I forgot to mention that David uses compressor almost always (actually the solo of Another brick in the wall Pt.2 is played straight through a comp and a limiter in to the mixer).
Is adrianejemond friend of yours? If he doesn't want to listen to your words maybe he's deaf...maybe you should shout into his ear that his sound sucks....SURE it's not the right sound for Shine on (original or nowadays).....he should listen to Shine on for years and years and years....:)
i've always felt that Gilmour and Clapton were similar players in that neither one is a flashy player. the parts they play compliment the music and become part of it. i think they are both masters of playing an "understated" solo. notes aren't wasted in some flurry like say EVH or most of the 80's guitarists.
You're right! You can ask somebody out there if they can even remember some musical line of Mr EVH or other 80's guitarists....probably they don't remember them...but the music of Mr Gilmour can easily be remembered...it's fixed in our lives...who can forget the four notes of Shine on you crazy diamond?:))
Gotta disagree on that issue 'bout EVH. Not that I'm a great fan of him, but he does compose his solos in a very extra ordinary way, - more in his early days though. 'Jump' or 'Beat it ', were only hits 'cause of the solos (IMO)
@scmaddog17 The thing that stands out for me.. is that Gilmore was always too cool to pull the guitarist's "Ugly Face" when he soloed.. but he holds the world record for the longest "pout" of any musician on the planet!! Started in the 60's and as this clip shows it's still going strong.. the man's a legend!
@scmaddog17 dude...that is so true...last night I was listening to Jack FM and they were playing 80s and I was really listening to guitar solos and I was like...wtf? This is like easy bullshit ass solos...I could make better ones and I've never picked up a guitar! But I totally agree with you. Both compliment and not flashy. It's crazy. I've tried to compare other artists to gilmour's solo...you can't compare. Never be able to get on his level.
@scmaddog17 I have to say I think Clapton edge's toward's widdling abit more than his early day's and between the two Gilmore the better user of note's, probably the best in the world actually. Don't get me wrong, Clapton's outro solo at Live Aid on Layla is still one of my favourite ever solo's, the guy is a genius, they both are.
I'm so happy that so many younger people have started listening to Floyd/Gilmour. I honestly think they have more fans today than back years ago, they turned out to be
Sick clip, for those that want to see more they also do 'take a breathe' in the same set which shouldnt be hard to find here on youtube... both off On an island album.
I think there's no reason to compare...Clapton and Gilmour are both great players but also very different. Anyway, I wonder why they never played together, considering that they seem to be very close, musically speaking. Hope they get along fine with each other, it would be a pity if they didn't.
Please, don't get me wrong. What I meant is that they are not like Beethoven and Village People (anyway, the point is not to create something like "VP vs. Beethoven"). I mean, they're not THAT far away each other in terms of music style. For instance, we all know they have played with some musicians in common (the obvious example is Roger Waters). In any case, you can see musicians like Brian May or Paul McCartney playing with David, even when they usually don't play THE SAME style of music.
I saw your video and listened to your sound...I'm sorry to tell you it's not the same David's sound..listen again to Shine on crazy diamond (the original) and the version you can find on Remember that night...that's the right sound. Stay well
damned subtitles ...

I can identify gilmour purely by his style, something quite difficult with shredders,

i don't think they're very close musically , clapton is more blues and pop, and gilmour is more psychedelic rock.
