maybe it's warm because of that thick ass jacket lol...

  • Hmm... I'm losing body heat?

I guess it's time to Drink My Own Piss.

  • This is really sad.

I needed to learn more from him.

  • You are missed Ron. - Things are just not the same without you.

  • RIP ron..

  • timeless - solid presentation - rip

  • RIP Ron

  • Rest in peace Ron.We missed you last week at The End of the World, you were in our hearts and minds, and you always will be

  • Damn...RIP

  • R.I.P Ron u will be missed , be sure teach people survival skills in heaven

  • He did great work, lived life to the fullest, and gave it his all. Now he can give it back. We appreciate and miss you.

  • Long live Ron's teachings. Rest easy man.

  • R.I.P. Ron. Thanks for the education.

  • R.I.P. Ron. We all miss you.

  • I recognize that frolic friend...crazy crow? You make it yourself?

  • i u were an prison escapee, du you think you can make it in the wilderness for months and maybe slowly migrate to a "safe heaven" with your skills?

  • @Slamaxe

    No answer?

    O.K.

A few days ago I managed to find out my original method to cope with low temperature.

It's far from perfect but it does work great.

If you want to know my method, donate me all your money earned from your DVD.

    :)

You can earn far much more by publishing new DVD with my method though you might be entitled insanity. :)

  • Ron i got into wilderness survival when i was 12 years old i was in the boy scouts i have gained much from it i have learned even more from you thank you very much and keep it up i'll keep watching

  • Why can wild animals survive every day?

  • @prisoner666JP

Why can a whale hold it's breath for 90 minutes? It's all about adaptation. We are adapted to the soft life now and animals retain their ability to adapt to temperature extremes. BTW wild animals die every day too.

  • @Slamaxe

Then let me know how to adapt to low temperature, especially in night time, quickly because I am going to travel across my country by foot without tent.

  • @Slamaxe so do humans...i like how you try to potray yourself as Les Stroud....did you know that your information can be found on a novice survival site....google it...anything you said...you know what grinds my gears....is fucking people who talk so much shit about surviving and then don't do it.. even les stroud....who may have to film it but still has a plan, a route, and an escape...i want to see the real thing...then i will know that it can be done until then...suck a fat cock

  • @prisoner666JP Animals, just like the human animal, endure, adapt, and survive and at times die trying. The migrate to areas of abundant food and if you are in an area, for example, that a bear can get, than you are in a good area to stay feed.

  • A shortcut that I discovered, is to camp in a place that offers lots of dead wood for building both a shelter and for the campfire. Ignore the negative videos by armchair survivalists. I know you and your wife know what you're talking about. I still can't get myself to eat grubs and maggots. S'pose I could if I had to. LOL

  • Back in the 1980's, before I joined the Army, I studied wilderness survival, then became homeless. Hence, the Army to get out of it. I learned the hard way by camping on a creek bank and trying to live off the land. Now that I'm retired, I live in the forest. It feels like home. I love your videos and my roommate watched one and now she is hooked too!

  • Haha, In the UK fanny means vag**a. Made me chuckle. Nice vid though.

  • @ 5:53 he gives us the finger LOL, Great Video

  • Comment removed

  • Really like the Capote jacket. Whaqt styke is that? Longhunter?

  • @BlacksmithPhillips *style...sorry pitch black in my room cant see keyboard.

  • like ur vid. never thought of losing heat thru breathing but ita true. thx karen

  • "Air movement is often called wind"

    Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • @kvnmcwebn dude why did you remove my comment?

  • Hey, slam, did you know milkweed fuzz is a good insulator?

  • Very good instructions! It saves alot of energy staying warm.

  • that was obvious but important i like your vids!five stars

  • Seems like a good guy who knows his stuff. No brag, not a camou style dude either. Good, nicely paced presentation.

  • The suffering conduction of the poor puppy, suffering with his bare butt on the snow.

  • 2:14 I'm an irish male and don't have a fanny so do i have to worry about heat loss by conduction??

  • Excellent. Chuck Norris would be frozen solid while Ron Hood is toasting marshmallows in his armpits.

  • Chuck Norris doesn't get stranded in the woods

  • @KickRocks5000 Of course he does. Where else would he go blindfolded to kill bears with his pinky finger.

  • lol

  • Excellent very well done I enjoy the academic style and presentation akin to a lecture ...look forward to seeing more, would like to listen to you review of various types of gear as well.

  • Great video and info thank you!

  • This guy should really have his own tv show. Survivor man and him are way better than Bear Grylls...and he's pretty cool too.

  • This is because Ron Hood is known among us survivalists as an actual survivalist, whereby the TV personalities you mentioned are media-created guys, and actually, "Survivor Man" is moreso the more fake of the two, between him and Bear. At least Bear does have some UK Spec Ops training, yet I've seen your S-man there do some incredibly stupid things before that would certainly get the lay person not educated much in survival skills, outright killed. Bear also takes incredible chances.

  • they have it on their website that "this is what discovery would show if they had balls"

  • Bloody excellent video presentation.

Many vidoes show you how to build shelters and go into a few reasons of why this and why that....but you covered everything nicely. 5*

  • Hey mate, why dont you start your own tv show I would watch it

  • very true, great video

  • Will you please, please, please do a video on your cloths!? That jacket looks awesome! What is the idea behind its design?

  • nice akita they are super loyal to their handlers and they will eat the face off of anybody who threatens their master.

  • Having a well insulated, waterproof, and versitile shelter is the key too short and long term wilderness survival

  • i find survival very interseting

    great vids

  • I think everybody finds life and survival interesting lol

  • Thanks!

  • Concise explanation. Now it would be interesting if you applied the same principles to keeping cool in the heat on a video.

  • Thanks for the vid its good info and i love ur dog!!

  • ???? what exactly did i comment?? :P i dont remeber and cant see so if you can tell me:P

  • you said:

dude they teach this shit at school.

  • ohhhh well yeah they do :) everybody should know about this if you dont know how you lose heat etc then your quite stupid

  • Who carse who he is or what kind of dog he's got?

If society breaks down and you can't waste time with your Playstation, you need to know this kind of information, or else, you are Dead!

    Pay attention!

  • Oh. I didn't realise some mutts were edible. I learned something new! Thanks!

  • Praise Gaia!

  • Try again, that's an Akita.

Interesting to see other survivalists with Akitas. I have two.

  • I have to tell luixdaniel12 that that kind of dog is a Burnese Mountain Dog<--(maybe misspelled, but that is basically how it is pronounced). I really dug this video and wonder if it takes place in NM. Commentator is really down to earth or being for real when is comes to survival techniques. Comes off like he was a Navy Main Space Propulsion Engineer.

  • thanks dude

  • what kind of dog is that i would like to have one its beutiful nice vid an jacket

  • It's an Akita. They're great dogs, but tough and dominant. They're not the breed for everyone.

  • Nice video, horrible website.

  • He's wearing a Hunting Frock. You can buy them on Ebay (Longhunter)

  • OMG, it's going straight up into space!!!

  • I like your outfit, you kind of remind me of a modern day druid and David Carradine (Kung Fu). I subscribed!

  • Cool video and nice capote

  • have you seen the movie into the wild

  • yes, i love that movie.

  • Love the video

  • sweet vid

  • learn how to survive while wearing cool sunglasses! THUMBS UP

  • @coocoosing hahaha

  • good video... iv suscribd :D u shud make more

  • air movement is often called wind xD haha i like this guy

  • ha ha i caught that 2

  • nice video thanks

  • I love his capote.

  • whats a capote

    his jacket

  • Yes. They are an article worn by Mountain men and Native Americans, made from blankets or trade cloth, mostly.

    Awesome.

  • Great video

  • I kept thinking that was Chuck Norris speaking throughout the whole video....

  • great vid give this guy his own show i'll watch

  • a hoddie/hooded sweatshirt is good to prevent heat loss through your head

  • this guy knows everything

  • this guy is great

  • Nice shirt!

  • hehe, this guy is cool. he explains it very well and friendly and easy to understand. he's got this welcoming attitude and every word he says is interesting. this guy can definitely be a great teacher of the wilderness. ^^

  • I like this guy. He's a legend in my books.

  • air movement is often called wind.

    Pretty good vid though

  • i liked the video. screw anyone that talks trash about this guy. if u don't agree with the video your an idiot first off and secondly u shouldn't post if u don't agree with it. freaking rude u know?. anywho. thanks for the video!

  • i like this vidio this guy is a COOL guy

  • Hmm that hat looks leather, which breathes and is transfers heat well. It's not a good hat for cold weather. It looks good as a sun hat.

  • lol That always gets me. Everywhere (apart from America, where it means ass), 'fanny' means just one thing: vagina.

  • You're an idiot. The more energy you use the more you lose. The more you use the less you have available because you use it up. Once it's gone you die. Your theory was tossed out on a pile of dead bodies hundreds of years ago.

Only dumb asses and idiots believe what you said

  • There is an equilibrium between calories burned, which generates heat, and caloric intake/conservation. An example is aptly demonstrated on the debris hut video series by maine primitive skill school. The shelter the guy builds burns series calories, but creates a situation where there is a return on the investment.

  • @skateface HAHAHA OWNED

  • Thanks alot for your videos,it helps alot!!And your dog is damn huge&cute!!

Q;When you sleep in a cold night,do I need to put like a flat piece of wood or something so I don't get contact with the ground or any suggestions?

  • Wood would work but it's hard. We generally use pine needles or leaves gathered from the ground. The rest of this video shows several insulation sources as well as explains the body battery and how energy is stored

  • @fatmanontherun pine or any tree with needles make good insulation.

  • Slam Axe- I am pretty sure that I saw your likeness on America's Most Wanted. It's a bold move to be putting yourself out there like this.

  • Aye mate but living in the bush keeps me out of harms way. With my ill gotten gains I can bathe in cash and buy all the wire and rope I want!

  • that shirt is hardcore!! triple fur-lined shoulder pads ftw!!

  • LOL @ the laugh at 1:14

  • whats so funny about him laughing?

  • In UK men don't have a Fanny!

  • WTF is that guy wearing? it looks like leather armor with shoulder pads and shit. maybe he thinks he is a Ranger from lord of the rings or something.

  • maybe not from lord of the ring, but the gys is definitly a ranger.. a high level one..

  • award for funniest comment right there man .. but i must say, i have envy for those shoulder pads man.. no doubt.

  • Wouldn't movement allow your body to heat up because of friction? Or maybe that would only be for short term warmth.

  • Actually this is a very interesting video, not like 90% of survival stuff around youtube. Thanks buddy !

  • I do live in a teepee ill show u a vid of it if i can upload it

  • cool, a teepee equipped with highspeed internet access!! either the teepee is really high-tech or you're camping out in your backyard in the suburbs. lol. Thank God for wireless internet, eh??

  • Thank you very much for in the information, its going to come in handy in 2012!!

  • YOU MIGHT THINK SO ONLY BECAUSE YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR HOME IN THE STOCK MARKET CRASH before that have you ever seen Threads

  • What do you mean? I live in a teepee out in the bush im just out in the town visiting my grandmothers. Going back to live in the bush in a couple of days.

So your saying my teepee will crash in the stock market?

  • am talking real life now not age of empires.lol

  • So did you guys know that air movement is called wind? Jk, nice vid dude. When are you going to come out with part three? You should teach some trapping methods or other ways of getting food.

  • Who the fuck would stop breathing? even if you told them to!?

No shit you would die after three minutes.. anyway the rest was good..

  • nice video!!! do you how long it takes for hypolthermia (i dont have a clue how to spell it) or frostbite to kick in?

  • The answer to your question is really it depends. Hypothermia and frostbite are influenced by a lot of factors such as body fat, clothing, air/water temperature, wind chill, etc. I listed just a few factors that are important when thinking about hypothermia and frostbite there are quite a few more. However if you do a search on the internet there are a few charts around that give you estimates based on different circumstances. Sorry I couldn't help you more but it's something that really depends

  • Hey, thanks! I spend most of my time reading books, watching movies, ect... learning about survival and I have for about 3 years now, but cold weather conditions is what i am not so sharp at... thanks for replying!

  • I have heard that the average fit person can with stand the elements (extream cold)for about 3 hours

  • chad k fan is a chad k fan of this video. I spend a month in the kodiak every year.

  • persperation is actually evaporation you dont lose heat by persperation rather by evaporation.

  • Perspiration is caused by a series of muscular contractions each of which uses energy. Tests show that you can lose as much as 400 KCAL per hour just by the act of sweating. That is heat loss at the body core by using up available energy.

  • fuzzydeer got owned

  • ya seriously!

  • lol he sounds like les stroud

  • Dude he totally does

  • That is one bad ass coat

  • That was a very good educational video......

  • I agree, at first i thought he would be a macho chad slabchest type. but as soon as he started talking, i continued watching.

  • Beautiful dogs!

  • if you like them so much why don't you marry them?

  • Where do these survival guys find these places. All I ever found (thank God) are trails, and set camp sites that are clearly marked. I would love to go off to some place really secluded just for a while.

  • good video men, I invite you to hike with me the mixtec mountains in Oaxaca.

  • exelent

  • Great information here. Thanks for the post.

  • thanks 4 the vid... man!

  • i need some survival tips and stuff!!! i have lots of questions

  • this is great thanks

  • this is great...really need to know stuff...where is the 3rd part?

  • survivaldotcom

  • Thx poster for this video! It was indeed full of promising info for people who have ears to hear and eyes to see! SURVIVAL ,Liberty,Freedom!

  • "Heh, that water's cold!" Classic. Good information, I want to buy that guy an Old Milwaukee.

  • I cannot believe you two are bickering like fools!

Thanks slamaxe for posting this video.

  • I want to know where to get a jacket/coat like he is wearing here

  • It's made out of blanket material.

  • Thanks SO much...now, where can I get one??

  • Try googling up "blacket coat" or "capot".

  • actually its a riflemans frock, his is made from a cotton duck I think. a lot of American Revolutionary War reenactors wear them , they are also wonderful outdoor jackets as they are loose enough to stuff with leaves , cattail fluff or other natural materials which makes a nice insulating layer. Its alos just plain comfortable!

  • His wife can teach ya how to make one in one of her videos :)

  • Unless folks know why all the features of the shelter are present - they may be tempted to cut some out to save time. The result: impatient cynical folks (I'm saying nothin') might be tempted to not build all of it (thinkin' they know best) and really suffer.

  • Because they are... If you look at the first two comments they where posted 1 month ago. If you look at the profile of the two ppl that commented. They joined youtube just 1 month ago... hmm...

  • transpiration wasn't on the list - pay attention and then you can watch other videos :)

  • I'm sorry sir, I don't speak redneck

  • Oh - what is it you're speaking then, cause it sure sounds like redneck! ahahha Transpiration is a redneck word? I've never met a redneck versed in plant biology before!

  • You realize that transpiration is a synonym for perspiration WHICH HE MENTIONED!I guess you should pay attention then you can watch another video?:-)

"Never met a redneck versed in plant biology" hmmm... well then I guess you only socialize with dumb uneducated rednecks, tell me who you hang out wih and I'll tell you who you are! Thanks for playing.

  • Alright well I am an MSc student at the university of Guelph. My program is biomedical toxicology. My undergrad was Biological sciences with a minor in Neuroscience. Haven't seen too many rednecks around here lately, unless you count the agriculture students. That's who I hang out with. . . if I'm uneducated who are you? I know what traspiration is, and perspiration, and the difference. Learned in first year.

    ahhhhhh - you village idiot.

  • So you're basically an educated fool (if what you claim is true, I can be a nuclear physicist on the internet). Not to mention insecure enough that you had to post your resume, do you know that saying "nobody gives a f*&^ it doesn't change the fact that you suck" hahaha.

Transpiration is still a synonym of perspiration and your comment was dumb, dumb, dumb.
