thanks for some great advice - much prefer a sit-on anyway - they sell loads of Kayaks in Cardigan in our home town and I'm sure i can sort out some lessons (a must ) - quite exited now and looking forward to the Summer.
would love to kayak around here but am a bit nervous as I,ve only ventured on the local river. Any tips and advice - cos I feel like I,m missing out on.
@Monsoonsue Best tip.......choose a calm day, ha ha, I do. Like a lot of things, there's more to it than meets the eye. If you're serious, I'd reccomend lessons, cost you a bit, but speed up the process. Choice of boat is essential, if you're not too serious a good Sit On Top, or a wide stable Sit In. You don't have to be Uber Kayaker to have a great time, and you have on your doorstep many great places to paddle, from dead easy, to very advanced, and a wonderful choice inbetween.
@Monsoonsue Best tip of all would be......try before You buy, a lot of boats look great, and indeed are, but may be unsuitable, uncomfortable, e.t.c. It needs to be comfortable, if you plan sitting in it all day......also, make sure it has watertight compartments, so that if you take a swim, the boat will still float.....some boats are completely open beneath decks, and if You flood them, they fill completely, and lose all bouyancy = bye bye boat, hello Lifeboat.
wow - would love to see more vids of your kayaking adventures ! - Solva is lovely and such a pretty little harbour. You might bump into me ( literally) swimming in the witches cauldron this summer lol - I'll keep an eye out for you : )
@Monsoonsue Indeed, I've seen a few people swimming at Ceibwr Bay, and the area seems popular with Coasteering types. In fact, whatever your interest, walking, swimming, boating, whatever, it's superb. The view, from the coastal path above Ceibwr Bay, looking back to Camaes Head is one of THE views in Wales.
@stebuses This trip is an absolute must, best from Poppit Sands, I've also done it from Newport Sands, which is also good. More often than not, you won't see anybody else out there, bar a few walkers on hte coast path. The launch at Ceibwr Bay is nearest, but at low water is a weed covered boulder ankle breaker, besides the rock architecture around Cemaes Head is second to none, and there are usually a lot of seals as well.
@Monsoonsue You live in a lovely part of the world, I love all the coastline from New Quay, South. Inland is nice as well. It's the kind of place I'd consider retiring to!!!! Don't worry, the chances of Me (a) Retiring, and (b) having the money to retire, are very slim indeed........
@Monsoonsue ROOOBBEE DOO........ go out and get lots of tickets....NOW, ha ha. I'll be back down there don't you worry. I now have a HD camcorder, and have just done a trip around Puffin Island, Anglesey, and it was absolutely stunning. Problem is, my computer can't cope with HD and needs upgrading, so it may be a few weeks off, but it will be worth watching, I can assure you. My last trip down mid Wales was fabulous, the Solva trip is another must, and very easy to do.
@alanshunter Saucy.Oooo Matron. If you ever get chance, the round trip to here from Poppit Sands is one of THE great day trips in Wales, easy for tides, just need a calm day.......Tomorrow would be superb.
@davemakesawave Well if youliked it, I got it right then, cheers. It's a unique place, and I no, no other like it, although I'm sure there will be somewhere, and I'll let everybody know if I find one, in the form of a video, ha ha.
@blagger4255 It is very easily missed, when in a small boat,as I proved on 3 previous occasions ha ha.From the coastal path it is easy to find, but strangley, nowhere near as impressive,I thought.Just head South-West from Ceibwr Bay,passing some excellent caves and scenery, find the first place you could land, there is a fence visible, then turn back hugging the coast, and within 30metres the entrance is there, through the narrow gully, good luck, you should have great fun finding it......
@espressocrime What in my own lunchtime or,my own underpants,or both ha ha! Thanks glad you like it,check out my new video "Sea Kayaking North Wales at the dawn of time" a totally amazing day.
@onlywhenpissed Actually You can swim here! there was 2 lads "coasteering" down to here one time I went, perfect territory hereabouts for all that malarkey,as well as fishing, walking e.t.c. This trip is unmissable on a nice day.
@GH0ST0L0GY Glad you like it,I am assuming you were looking for a slightly different kind of" witches cauldron",given your youtube name? but if you enjoyed it anyway then that is good!
@GBPaddling Yeah, actually I was looking for "Welsh Witches", but when I saw what this vid was about, I was immediately hooked- couldn't look away! Love the subject matter & the view- I'd Love to go there myself, but since I can't at the moment, it's great to live the experience vicariously! :)
@Themarcchampagne Mid - Wales, about 5 miles South of Cardigan.Totally unique little place,a walk along the cliffs here is magic,a trip by kayak - supreme.
@Paulmanorbier It is indeed an awesome place, much better by kayak I might add,I walked to it from Ceibwr,in June and was distinctly underwhelmed, after doing it by Kayak. Moral of the story - get a Kayak!
@magpie307 It took me 3 attempts to find it,at one point I was 150metres away, and asked someone in a Kayak, and he pointed me in the wrong direction - never thought I'd find it,was relieved, and really impressed when I did.I can't believe there aren't more videos on it,it really is a special little place.
@Twosharppencils Glad you enjoy them,I too have been impressed by other peoples videos,so thought I will do my bit for Queen and country. The Withches Cauldron is totally unique and depending on the water level, can be a totally different experience each visit.
Great video. I live in Pembrokeshire and had walked passed the cauldron a few times but only went in by kayak last year. What a place! Amazing emerald green glow coming up through the water & reflecting off the rocks - your film really brought it back. Looks like you found tunnels I missed so I'll be back again this year!! Did you find a long (75metre?) through cave between Ceibwr and the cauldron?
@WoodyPembs Yes indeedy, answering to the tunnel, think so,it is only passable at high water i think, and even then with great care with a fibreglass boat.We shared the tunnel with some quite hardy "Coasteerers" last time. The whole area is stupendous,as I've stated before, start from Poppit or Newport sands, and you can't go wrong, and is usually a very quiet stretch of coast.
@GBPaddling That sounds like the one, I just got through at high tide, couldn't see much, bottomed (plastic boat :) on something early on then it opened out in the middle. Great fun, thanks for the info!
@gillyjulianne I'm assuming you're walking, apologies if I'm wrong,if walking you can park at Ceibwr bay(Ki-boor).You would have to get in early as parking is very limited, the views from the coastal path here are superb,I've never walked it,but it cant be far, mile or two at most, and would be easier to find, than by kayak.
@GBPaddling Thanks for the info :-) yes we'll be walking (my kayak skills are somewhat limited, sadly). There is a little known sacred spring, high up on the lip of the cauldron, apparently a passage 5 yards long somewhere in the walls, just HAVE to find it!
Thanks again for the video - it looks AWESOME - I can't wait! We leave tomorrow! Yay!
So that's whats been happening! Honestly the amount of people I've asked about it,nobody seems to know.I think it's safe for the time being,it's one of the great things about that stretch of coast, you can be out all day and see very little in the way of other water users.
they said they had,and were quite local, from Havorfordwest,so either they hadn't or had very high standards! But on my 2nd visit here I didn't find it and assumed it was one of several deep inlets, which were good but not 'that' good. The full trip from Poppit in my opinion is absolutely fantastic.
thanks for some great advice - much prefer a sit-on anyway - they sell loads of Kayaks in Cardigan in our home town and I'm sure i can sort out some lessons (a must ) - quite exited now and looking forward to the Summer.
