@Zinfandale I'll agree with you that his alleged 570 foot homerun is most likely exaggerated, but to say that a baseball can't travel more than 560 feet is ludicrous. The harder you hit the ball, the further it's going to go, there's no MAX to how far it physically can travel. And an 18 oz. bat wouldn't be the optimum weight. Have you ever swung one of those things? The bat snaps back as soon as you hit the ball because it doesn't have enough mass to apply enough force to the ball.

Just so you guys know, based on the physics of the flight path and trajectory of a baseball the MAXIMUM distance a ball can travel is around 560 feet. The only problem is that for you to generate that kind of bat speed you would have to use the optimum weight which is around 18 ounces. So I highly doubt anyone on planet Earth has ever hit a ball more that 530 feet. Just wanted to clear things up.

I agree with CinnamonBuns, he keeps his weight back fine. His huge explosion forward towards the ball results in his amazing power and bat speed, but all that relies on perfect timing, get a pitcher with a good change-up that drops low in the zone and Harper will have a tough time hitting it.

He staying back perfectly fine.. He does a different form of it with exploding at the ball with his weight rather then waiting the split second adn the ball getting to him.. This may be a problem if his timing ever gets messed up cause after he explodes forward he has to hit or else no power.

Pitchers at higher levels will give him changeups low and away all day if he does that. Then again, im not a hitting coach, but that's just what it looks like to me. no one is expecting him to be in the majors next season, we'll be lucky to see him in the next 4 years up in the bigs. If you have talent, you have talent and this kid has all the skills you need to PROJECT as a high quality player. I think in the time in the minors he'll learn how to hit a curve ball.

hes not swinging off his front foot, he is swinging the correct way and not the rotational hitting technique they teach most hitters. He loads back about 60/40 with his weight on his back, then gets alot of that weight heading to the ball which produces the aforementioned bombs
