1/505 PIR Panther Brigade if you're not scared on every jump its time to quit, but dam is it fun, awesome vid Airborne thanks for the memories, Airborne All the Way!!!!!!
@thehate448 your odds of being killed in a parachute jump are astronomical. Your odds are 1 in 100 of being killed in a car accident. Your odds of being killed by a gun 1 in 2,000. Your odds of being killed in an airplane crash 1 in 20,000. Military jumps during peacetime are very safe. I was in the 2/508 Abn in the late 70's, and parachuting fatalities from equipment failures were extremely rare. The odds were taken from thd Rush Limbaugh show.
@Robloxsaltytaco1234One guy just answered it, but I'll restate it. The day you go up on a jump and you are NOT scared, then make sure that is your last jump. In 1987 there was a Air Photographer who would film people skydiving. His last film was on the evening news showing how he forgot his parachute. He wasn't Scared and became the danger to himself that killed himself.
@TheHoomaikai What are the odds that the wind will be more than 5 knots during JFEX (Large Package Week for us older guys)? I'd bet slim to none. I've never seen the wind too high for us to jump during those. :-)
WTF!?!? Hollywood? Daytime? I guess you get better camera shots than on a REAL jump at 2 am with combat gear... (hopefully the sarcasm is evident, nice video)

@rinswani Uh, yeah - "...after you've executed the parachute landing fall...activate your canopy release assembly by using one of the two methods of recovery from the drag -- the hand-to-shoulder method or the hand-assist method, the hand-assist mehod being the most preferred..." per the 82nd Airborne Division ASOP.
@EETech Hello, I am 16 and considering joining the Airborne, I'm a little concerned about the dangers of my parachute failing, could you please tell me the odds of that happening?
@thehate448 I don't know the odds, but it's probably a lot less than getting in car accident. Since 1993, I don't recall a chute failing. There were a few deaths, but they were (if I recall correctly) a result of being a towed jumper (got dragged behind the plane when they jumped out).
@thehate448 In theory, the jumpmaster will try to retrieve you. If he can't and you're conscious, then he'll cut the static line and you pull your reserve when you feel yourself falling. If you're unconscious, then you WILL be retrieved. (sounds funny to me -- I suspect they would never cut the static line).
@nobulshevick No shit? Wow - I hope the jumper is ok. Any idea why they cut the static line? I'd assume they could easily retrieve the jumper with the static line retriever system on the plane. I guess getting cut free is better than getting banged around on the aircraft. If I remember right, the towed jumper I heard about years ago died from cardiac arrest after they retrieved her back inside (not sure what's true or what's rumor).
@EETech im not to sure why they cut his static line. he landed a bit rougher than normal. and probably scared out of his mind. We had 4 people break their backs on that jump. it was a rough one.

Ahh.. ok grammar. Look, its unit to unit what happens over seas, but from what I saw in the infantry only infantry, artillery, and some MP units did anything outside of a FOB. Commo/Supply etc can be -ATTACHED- but rarely does the same job.
Its an insult to someone that almost died many times on a deployment to say everyone does the same thing deployed.
When you slip, it makes you move in that direction (well, it's supposed to). Slipping into the wind cancels your movement from the wind and slows you down.
im joining the military this fall, going to join with the airborne.. was just wondering what the standard equipment for a current US airborne would be?
24BoogaardWild, this is now correct. As of approximately 1995 or so the C-130 exit was changed to that of a C-141 jet. You had the boys walk out until they got sucked out, no more 'door positions' as it was determined not to diminish it's intent-twisted risers. I hope this helps. My perspective as a Jumpmaster and 17 years straight on jump status.
I'm currently doing a qualification in Germany in a Hotel but i am american.
While i was working night desk a fellow american came up and said that i don't sound German.
I said "No Sir" , he asked me where i was from.I replied Virgina." Son , Do you want become an Airborne Ranger?"I said yes , he gave me his card and where in Frankfurt i should go , what i should have in my contract to avoid shit.
I really would want to , but jumping out a plane ...... What if i freeze up and can't jump?
It's just that i want to. But it's like when your on the ground saying your gona jump but when your in the air and you have weak knees and feel like choking or freezing up
i scored a 87 on mine and went 31R communications, also signed up at meps to go to airborne and got lucky they put me in for 82nd, did basic, ait, and jump school, a year after joining i was at fort brag 82nd, good times, this brings back memories
Good shit! From the 10 minutes notice to the green light go..what a rush i got just from sitting here in my office...Thanks for the memories....AIRBORNE!!!
I live in Laurinburg Nc and every now and then we go out to the Laurinburg/maxton airport and watch these guys drop in.... my old school got to see these guy dimonstrate, after the chorus sang... it was Carver Middle School in Laurel Hill NC.... I want t o join the army after collage and hopefully go into the airborne
you don't chose to go to the 82nd Arbn, you go where the army needs you but you have a great chance of going there if you get Airborne school in you initial enlistment contract
@ODST901 lol 32 all you need is 11x (infantry) or any other MOS to join airborne =) like me i scored a 67 on my asvab and i went 11x and was called a idiot by my friends who went to communitactions so i said while your in a air conditioned room watchin gauges i get to kill the bastards that killed thousands of americans on 9/11 and the ones killing other us military men almost every day
First, you need to take FAST or something to improve your spelling and grammar. It took a while to decipher your whining. Second, I blocked you (or some jackass just like you) for a reason. But, if you insist on crying about how great your life is, then I'll rake your ass over the coals just to demonstrate your ignorance. A good Soldier knows that all MOSs (note how to write acronyms) are necessary for combat.
SSG Will Kelly, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, out of Fort Carson, Colorado. Way to go man, to bad we never actually use the airborne now days, i bet it would scare the shit out of those taliban mother's to see u boys comin in from the sky, lol. Keep it up brother
Do you jump out of the plane when you get deployed to iraq or afghanistan?
Someone told me that for now you just get out of a helicopter and slide down a rope. Don't actually get to jump from the plane and land in enemy territory.
Airborne missions consisting of paratroopers always JUMP from a minimum altitude of 800 feet
(into a hot combat zone) Air Assault personnel repel from any distance in between. (The 82nd Airborne jumps and the 101st repels.. From post Viet Nam to present day.) Viet Nam created a new awareness for "repelling" troops. The 101st quickly mastered this craft. As for your last question pertaining to enemy territory; "Hell yes" . The 82nd has never known the luxury of jumping into a friendly jump zone
That was AWESOME. Brought back a lot of memories. Whatever happened to "stand in the door"? That was standard on a C130 jump in the 80's. You got my blood pumping. ALL THE WAY, SIR.
A few years back they changed the procedures to "standby" for all aircraft. At one point, you walked out of the C-130 just like the C-141 (young guys may not remember those LOL), but now it's "up 6 and out 36" just like before except that you don't put your hands on the door.
@EETech I was in 93-95, they still taught us to put our hands on the door of 130's. My dad was also a paratrooper and talking to him he said he never did it, why you just run the risk of getting tangled. So I never put my hands on the doors. And you know what, they never once asked me to come back and try it again.
Wow brought back some memories! Things changed a little bit since I was in, but damn if I couldn't feel the breeze between my knees when you jumped! Thanks for posting!
Looked like a good Feet ass head landing. Any landing you walk away from is a good landing. Do a night jump if you can so the see what that looks like. I when i was in cameras were to big to do that. Great job buddy.
airborne is highly trained heavy infantry regiment of paratroopers and yes they are highly trained infantry what do you think if theyre not why they took the whole europe :P
guys i have a question, did these guys are poorly trained as a simple infantry division or they are hard trained, i mean they are not ranger, marines or seals...did they can be considerated the poor brothers of the army family or not?
im a foreign really interested to join your army and basically i have to choice, marines or army, if i go i nthe army i would do something good and hard, airborne would be my dream.
i worked for those bad boys as a local linguist back at 03....what struck me the most about them is their physical fitness compaired to other army div.s.
shout out to Ssgt ralph Jacobs,82nd div. 325th bde master gunner.
It was a few weeks before I posted it, so probably around late June or early July of 2006. This was a jump with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team (325th Airborne Infantry Regiment) headquarters.
since only three Troopers jumped at Grenada unless you meant Granada Spain with OP CRISIX have never met a Trooper that Jumped at Grenada we all airlanded
I think my heart would've start goin crazy when the guy said 1 minute! lol. But just wanted you and your guys to know. Thank you for doing what you guys do. It takes a lot of courage to serve your country.
a yall my father was in the 82nd airborne division and his name is Gregory Matthews HHC 82nd Brigade from 84-86. I was wondering if anyone knew him or jumped with him. plese respond 82nd ALL THE WAY. Airborne
God bless the men and women who choose to defend us from our foes and allow us to live such a wonderful, peaceful life. 307th med bt 82nd airborne div 1989-1993 desert sheild/storm
i'm a combat engineer in the 82, and i'm about to deploy to afghanistan, along with most of the 82, and a lot of the 18th airborne corp. so don't tell me that we don't deploy as much. the largest portion of the additional 1 7500 troops going into afghanistan are coming from ft bragg.
airborne paratroopers in world war 2 were called the 101st, modern day paratroopers are called the 82nd. These divisions of the u.s army have not had many major changes since world war 2.
This is wrong. During World War 2 the US Army had both the 82nd Airborne Division and the 101st Airborne Division. Plus a couple other Airborne Units. The 82 was a mix of Glider planes and Parachuters while the 101st was mostly if not all Paratroopers. The 101st later changed to Air Assault, which meant they use ropes to repel from helecopters instead of jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.
I spent 4 Years with the 82nd at ft Bragg, 2/325 AIR, DEATH FROM ABOVE
Wow! Brings back sweet memories. Served in HHC 2/504 PIR in 1985-86, we had just got the cavelar helmets in the Div. Thanks for sharing! BTW if anyone's out there fm the ol' commo platoon of the time it's me PFC Nuttall, drop me a note guys!
I forget exactly what it's called, but there's a device on the planes now that allows the jumpers to just walk out of them. When standing in the door, they had to jump out of the planes instead of walk out.
They say that to the first door jumper. But it's hard to hear if your in the middle or end of the chalk so you probably wont hear it. I know they say that everytime I was the door jumper.
With C-130s, you used to "stand in the door". C-141s you "standby". Different procedures for the planes. They changed it so that you don't put your hands on the door for a C-130, so the command is now "Standby".
@sdcrofford66 - what are you talking about? (I moderate all comments and I don't tolerate smart asses on my page)

@Himdarling44
Outboard personnel are the ones seated closest to the outside of the aircraft. Inboard are seated closest to the middle.

Bashaza 1 year ago
@Bashaza if u have doubts u dont have what it takes jumping out of a plane is one of the easiest things ull do in the 75th

It's just that i want to. But it's like when your on the ground saying your gona jump but when your in the air and you have weak knees and feel like choking or freezing up

Do you jump out of the plane when you get deployed to iraq or afghanistan?
Someone told me that for now you just get out of a helicopter and slide down a rope. Don't actually get to jump from the plane and land in enemy territory.
joerover22 2 years ago
Airborne missions consisting of paratroopers always JUMP from a minimum altitude of 800 feet
(into a hot combat zone) Air Assault personnel repel from any distance in between. (The 82nd Airborne jumps and the 101st repels.. From post Viet Nam to present day.) Viet Nam created a new awareness for "repelling" troops. The 101st quickly mastered this craft. As for your last question pertaining to enemy territory; "Hell yes" . The 82nd has never known the luxury of jumping into a friendly jump zone
24BoogaardWild 2 years ago
That was AWESOME. Brought back a lot of memories. Whatever happened to "stand in the door"? That was standard on a C130 jump in the 80's. You got my blood pumping. ALL THE WAY, SIR.
24BoogaardWild 2 years ago
@24BoogaardWild
A few years back they changed the procedures to "standby" for all aircraft. At one point, you walked out of the C-130 just like the C-141 (young guys may not remember those LOL), but now it's "up 6 and out 36" just like before except that you don't put your hands on the door.
EETech 2 years ago
@EETech I was in 93-95, they still taught us to put our hands on the door of 130's. My dad was also a paratrooper and talking to him he said he never did it, why you just run the risk of getting tangled. So I never put my hands on the doors. And you know what, they never once asked me to come back and try it again.

NO 8nd is an airborne division they jump out of planes or black hawks while air assualt fast rope down choppers
xaviercornwell 2 years ago 2
airborne paratroopers in world war 2 were called the 101st, modern day paratroopers are called the 82nd. These divisions of the u.s army have not had many major changes since world war 2.
stule77 2 years ago
This is wrong. During World War 2 the US Army had both the 82nd Airborne Division and the 101st Airborne Division. Plus a couple other Airborne Units. The 82 was a mix of Glider planes and Parachuters while the 101st was mostly if not all Paratroopers. The 101st later changed to Air Assault, which meant they use ropes to repel from helecopters instead of jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.
I spent 4 Years with the 82nd at ft Bragg, 2/325 AIR, DEATH FROM ABOVE

"stand by" ? whatever happened to "stand in the door"? This was a C130 jump, right?
bostonsluggo 2 years ago
I forget exactly what it's called, but there's a device on the planes now that allows the jumpers to just walk out of them. When standing in the door, they had to jump out of the planes instead of walk out.
dremkwil 2 years ago
there is an extra step platform that you walk off of. They are only on c-17's tho. Thats so you can get into the jet blast
slause24 2 years ago
Oh.
Do you know the reason why they don't say "stand in the door?" I'd kinda like to know myself.
dremkwil 2 years ago
They say that to the first door jumper. But it's hard to hear if your in the middle or end of the chalk so you probably wont hear it. I know they say that everytime I was the door jumper.
slause24 2 years ago
Ah, ok. Thanks for answering and serving!
dremkwil 2 years ago
With C-130s, you used to "stand in the door". C-141s you "standby". Different procedures for the planes. They changed it so that you don't put your hands on the door for a C-130, so the command is now "Standby".
