  • If only g1-whiners could see how much hard work ILM puts into this...

  • Is weird to see ILM making of

I aways talk to my self: "OMG! They are really humans!!"

  • @Mankkubus It's true, all of the computers in the world couldn't produce this imagery without the artists, technicians and production talent that drive them.

  • There is something that really haunts me :

_ In real life, there aren't any frames. We see all the actions being lived. We do not really see motion blur.

_ When ILM works on movies ( meaning the actions are just frames ) there is motion blur.

My question is : How does ILM make motion blur ? It looks so real, everytime I try to pause a video to see the details of the rendering of Transformers in action I see motion blur.

  • Motion blur is usually an effect applied at the time that the hardware is rendering individual frames. For example the animator can specify which animated elements will be motion blurred, the direction and length of the motion blur is achieved by specifying how many frames are used to average out the motion. Modern rendering software can very accurately simulate different kinds of cameras with different lenses & shutter speeds meaning it can match real cameras quite well

  • Hey guys this is Amazing.. am A great fan of Transformers i love all 3 parts everything is Awesome .. and Hatsoff to u guys for making us such an brilliant movie,,,, WE are Expting part 4 aswell .. hope we ll get offical news from michalebay..

u guys rock .. Once again thanku for bringing us our childhood heros in Big scren like Optimus , beeee , Ironhide , etc....Cheers

    Goodluck guys..

  • Megatron's transformation is damn smooth - especially when he pulls that head scarf down onto his head. It definitely gives a different look then we used to seeing him as.

  • @harveyp1814 It makes him look really broken, and it makes sense that his transformation is slow because he's all rusted like Jetfire.

  • that was amazing ! i sometimes prefer behind the scenes of how they make movies than the film it self.. like this one , i love transformers ! but i really wanna know how they also do it.. thank you so much for uploading this , and can i have links or name , to see a full behind the secens ? or more clips , or where did you get that clip from ?

thank you so much for replying !

  • @coolmore64 We are told there are some great making-of featurettes on the newly released Blu-ray set. Check it out!

  • like this movie is not already too awesome for the human mind to comprehend, THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!

  • Moment with car, my favorite in the movie.

    tutorial please!

  • Why is this clip so short?

  • @lumkiletyesi We need to leave something for the new Blu-ray right?

  • @ILMVisualFX you can tell me the full render time :o

  • Insanly Brilliant

  • No comments? What is this madness?

  • Rendering time ∞

  • Hey ILM i have a question:When you Manupulate a model example Driller or optimus prime, the computer don't go lag/slow..??

  • How do you guys get the robots and effects behind people and objects????

    do you rotoscope??

    Mask???

    What???

  • @SummitTraxxas Yes we have a fantastic team of roto artists that do a MASSIVE amount of paint work on every shot where you see robots.

  • @ILMVisualFX Thats AWESOME!!

What software do you guys use to piece it all together??

Is it like After Effects or something??

And when ever we see a lens flare do you guys make them yourselves or do you buy a video copilot optical flares bundle or something??

    Thanks!

  • @SummitTraxxas We use a number of different piece of software to composite elements together but for stereo 3D work we're primarily using The Foundry's Nuke.

For lens flares we make our own and have many custom tools to do so.

  • @ILMVisualFX Thats so cool!!

    Thanks!

Didn't the Mythbusters use to work there??

  • @SummitTraxxas Some of them :)

  • Come on !!!! Why do you people want to unlike THIS !!!! Try to appreciate the talent of these guys !!!!

  • where does the musical snippet at the beginning come from?

  • hey do you guys ever use the free modeling and animation software called blender.

  • kool

  • Awesome!!! Please Upload the ILM/TF3 Showreel by Scott Farrar

  • this is awsome.

  • It says on your jobs page on your website that in order to be a compositor, you need to have experience with Shake. Since Shake is now discontinued, what is the main program you use? I would like to apply for compositor and I am very familiar with Adobe After Effects.

  • @TeamRedFilms We still use Shake - with a lot of custom extensions created here in-house. We also use both Nuke from the Foundry and Inferno from Autodesk. Thanks for your interest.

  • Great video :) seriously I could watch a 4 hour vfx documentation of your work :D what projects are you involved in for 2012? Consider me in the theathre ;-)

  • Pretty nice execution presented in animation, great work .

  • this was truley an epic movie i loved every second of it thank you for putting this up do you have more videos like this on dark of the moon

  • MUITO LOKOOOOOOOOOOO !!! WONDERFUL !!!

  • I love those behind the scene with ILM, great work guys !

  • Cool stuff.

  • cool information about the transformations.

  • Thank you for posting this! For a young visual fx artist with dreams of working at ILM this video is really helpful!

  • I wonder if they design the characters as a single boned rig, or multiple smaller rigs (each with it's own IK,etc) parented together??

  • @TheScwall The Transformers are each rigged with a completely custom rig that animators can add and subtract objects and parts on the fly - we call the tech: Dynamic Rigging.

  • Really Nice job guys!!!!

    I loved the movie!!!!!!

  • Now tell us how you rig them! Haha

  • The Transformers Even Had Blood This Time

  • too little

  • Mocarg brought me here

  • It's just so greatttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The decepticon truck transformation on the sand is quite impressive. Nice work!

  • omfg, I want more of this!

  • nice

  • Awesome

  • awesome!!!!! i got DOTM on blu ray just about the sharpest bit of detail then any other robot movie just my opinion to anyone who disagrees

  • what transformations? watch the megatron part. wtf?

  • This is harder to execute than the effects done on Avatar. Each Transformer has hundreds of pieces moving just for Transforming.

  • That's awesome that you think through that kind of stuff. I wanna see more DOTM vids!

  • Last.

    THIS IS AWESOME!

  • I thought you will show the actual rigging for transformation :(

    anyway, Nice!

  • There work behind these movies an effects is mind blowing. Very epic.

  • 2:11 is that megatron's famous RAVAAAA! from ROTF??

  • Great, very helpful for my fanwork :D

  • Is this on the special edition DVD? Because I'm still waiting on the Two disc edition.

  • I'll be extremely disappointed if TF3 loses Best Visual Effects to Rise of the Planet of the Apes...

  • It would be really cool if they show the actual CG rigs the used.

  • Awesome, but too short!

  • NICE!

  • hmm... I didn't know they think so much into the transformation of those bots... Good job btw!

  • loved all the transformations in this one, it's really great to actually see what's going on at a speed you can comprehend!

  • Rendering that must be a bitch

  • Deep.

  • More please i would love just hear the directors talk about how they did their favorite shot, or how the 3d artists went about taking on the challenge of the 70,000 part snake thing please i just want to hear what you do :/ i so badly want to go work their

  • Simply AMAZING. Thank you for the amazing Visual Effects
