I remeber when Nixon told the American people in 1968 that he had a plan to END THE WAR IN VIETNAM. Instead he prolonged, expanded and extended it and it only ended in 1975 after Nixon resigned in disgrace. Marine General Smedley Butler said that MOST US wars were started by and for the benefit of WALL STREET. He would know since he served 34 years, fought in FIVE wars and was awarded TWO Congressional Medals of Honor. His book, "WAR is a RACKET" was never read by Nixon.

RFK probably would have beaten Nixon. I'm not sure he'd have beaten Hubert Humphrey for the Democrat nomination. We'll never know. What I do know is this. RFK wanted to pull out of Vietnam without a "Peace Plan" in place. Just take out US military from there. McGovern wanted to the same thing.

You loss the war politically in Vietnam long before you did at home, For that reason alone the war was unwinnable, You simply failed to convince the south Vietnamese people that you had their best interest at heart as they saw you as just another racist white conqueror like the french, You also didn't know who you were fighting since the Hochimin movement was staunchly nationalist before anything they where hardly vassals to Moscow or Beijing.

By 1968, the war was raging, the Smother's Brother's were on TV (Archie Bunker was just around the corner), and hippies were everywhere. Had JFK lived and completed a second term, I believe he would have moved to the left at least a bit.

Reminds me of an incident that happened with JFK during the 1960 campaign.  He was making a speech in the Midwest and said "Do you what the biggest problem is for the American fah-mah?" And someone in the crowd yelled "He's stah-ving!" JFK had to stop because he was laughing so hard.

Edgar Hoover intercept info on MLK for suspected communist activities. JFK was a Bush on foreign policy if anything or at least a Truman. Eisenhower invented the concept of detente and we had detente for a brief period of time during his second term.
