  • I wouldn't really classify, a sti as stock since the body (hoodscoop, and wing), turbo, and exhaust, and brakes. Are actually after market already. I could buy a stock car and supercharge or turbo it myself, and add headers, a sway bar, upgrade the brakes. But then it wouldn't be stock anymore. Look at a 350Z you can add nismo upgrades for it. Scions you have many trd upgrades available from the dealer, doesn't have to be added on at the factory.

  • As a speed6 owner stock for stock the sti is a little faster but not by much and once you start to mod speed6 will rule sti's 100mph+. As far as speed6 vs evo, even though the speed isn't rally the speed is a fucking EVO KILLER straight up. I have driven evo VIII's, evo IX's, evo IX mr's, evo X's and evo X m'rs. The only evo that can even some what compare is an evo IX mr and even so they aren't that impressive. As far as the evo X's mitsubishi fucked themselves over because they suck ass.

    But a STi stock with an aggressive launch is very fast ... NO FWD or RWD ROAD CAR can be faster then that on 1st gear !!!

    with my STi stock i was making 1.61 on a 60 feet at the 1/4 mile !! i never saw a FWD or RWD do that since REAL DRAG CAR !!!

  • i agree with you zero, the MSP6 resembles the new trend in rally cars. if you follow the WRC the new rally cars are all 4 sedans that weigh about 2900lbs with modifications to suspension, computer system, etc. but when compared to the street going econo box version there isnt a huge difference. ofcourse all WRC rally cars have 100 opoun 100 of hours of R&D and have a strengthend frame and fully rollcages that expand into the trunk and engine compartment.

  • quite the opposite. a lancer and an impreza is a sports sedan, you know 4 doors = sedan. a sport compact would be a civic SI, hundai tiburon GT, Mitsubishi Eclipse (compact = 2 doors). i have driven many mazda speed 6s and lancers (own an 04 STi) there is little if any difference in space. and a real man doesnt care about items to make him comfy. he is about performance. not making sure he is comfortable in his luxury sedan after getting his nails done.

    im 6 foot 4 and i can not fit into the back of a STI. it might as well be a 2 seater.

  • sti is an Impreza which in the class of a mazda 3 honda civic and toyota corrolla, the mazda 6 or speed 6 is in the class of a Subaru LEGACY, that what i was looking for a legacy or a speed 6. THOSE are in the same class, not a sti.

  • last time i checked FWD vehicles walk all over AWD vehicles in races and if you check stats, sti's have faster 0-60 times than the speed 6 because ITS FASTER. numbers dont lie pal, so why dont you get your head out of your ass. ik the speed 3 is FWD which is why its better, the speed 6 is slow a shit mazde speed 3 0-60 is around 5.5, speed 6 around 6, sti around 4.5-4.7. if you dont believe me check car and driver. cant argue facts here pal.

  • okay this is something we can come to an agreement about, although the only downfall to RWD is that the power has to go through the car as opposed to all the wheels pushing the power or the front wheels dragging it. but from a roll FWD is better cuz it involves less work to get the speed to build due to the fact that the power has to go through the car... and for the record i am also an adult.

This could explain why companies such as Subaru strictly use AWD and why some of the fastest vehicles on the street are RWD and AWD. IE Porsche 911 GT, NSX, Audi S4..   • at all considerin the sti is faster from the factory and if you mod it it becomes faster as does any car but a stage 3 sti vs stage 3 ms6 the sti will come out on top all day. a stage 3 srt-4 will rape a stage 3 sti all day as would any RWD car for that matter i wasnt saying RWD sucks just that its less economical and a poor way to distribute power unless its from a dig in which case RWD is best

  • @specvsentra1 You're an idiot. The STi weighs 3340 full tank w/o driver. 3300 would be conservative. Maybe one of the first model STis weighs 3200. Over the years, they've only been putting on weight.

  • WRX is an impreza AWD turbo. The STI is the top production model of the WRX with more mods, better suspension, more fine tuning, etc.

  • STIs are like the size of a newer corolla, too narrow and barely in leg room in the back. Besides that subies tend too have cheap and goofy looking interiors. Other then that they are amazing cars.

  • have you been in a corolla and an STi? i have probably driven 500 corollas in my years of wrenching and my STi has way more leg room. im 6'2 and about 220 lbs and i fit in it perfectly. New STi interiors are very nice. but the thing your failing to recognize is people dont buy STis because they want a snazy interior. they buy it because the car performs better than all (but 1 - evo) in its price range.

  • @bennychan723 To accomplish that kind of performance, the mazda needs a big turbo upgrade, and it's a shame the MZR engine is very fragile concerning these kind of mods.

    I am planning to buy a speed6 but I am definitely not gonna put on a bigger turbo.

    I should stick with exhaust/intake/ECU tuning mods

    you should really look into it, there is a stock block ms6 that is pushing over 400 whp. A lot of rods were being bent early on because of tuning and not having adequate fueling. Go to MSF.org to check it out. The engine isn't as fragile as you think. You just have to be smart with your modding.

  • @razioth the speed 6 can very easily / safely make 320whp. But you are right once you start pushing that the risk increases significantly. It is a great car and after a while you realize that fun > speed. I wanted an Evo so bad but now im happy with my speed 6. Not as fast but looks much better, more unique (pretty rare), more comfortable, cheaper, etc.

  • @dsmluck in a speed 6? Please show me evidence of that. I browse forums frequently and have never seen a speed 6 at 450whp on stock block. My 320whp speed 6= FMIC, full intake, full exhaust, cobb ap custom tuned are my power mods.

  • @thegarbageman21 There are MS3 a@ 450+ whp. I was stating that the internals have held to nearly 500 whp. That's still much more than the 320whp you are pushing in the MS6. No one has actually found the upper limit of the MZR engine but I am sure people are getting close.

    There is a MS6 in the 11's now but I don't know how much hp he is pushing.

  • @dsmluck Well the internals have never been the "factor" contributing to all the blown speed's in the quest for power. The community has long known that the internals aren't that weak. The reason the cars blow is because of the low rpm torque spikes. Most people blow up during normal daily driving. There are some crazy speeds out there but generally speaking we haven't found a way to consistently / safely make 400+ whp. Not like an evo / sti ... I was the 11 second vid and it was awesome. 

  • Congrats, but I HAVE YET TO SEE A STOCK CAR beat an STi. A car with no modifications, just from the dealership. I have never seen it because most of the cars on the street cant.

  • @Malikot911 Don't get me wrong. I love STi's. But for the price i'd rather spend the extra 4 grand on a Evo because they are better on tarmac and look a hell of a lot better. Also buying a WRX and spending the money saved on parts. I've got a bunch of friends who could afford STi's but bought WRX's and upgraded them with the money they were going to use with the STi. Lets just say there WRX's make a stock STi look like a joke.

  • I definitely agree. The twin-turbo 6 is a sweet engine but as with many imports, you pay a fat price just for a name. The speed6 is quite a deal in terms of comfort, looks, performance and practicality. I can go on a long road trip, sail along at 120 and step out of the car feeling refreshed and not beat to death like in say an STI.

  • I'll attest to that. I own a speed6 and slap down mustang GT's all the time, old or new. I read the responses on these forums all the time and it's alway clear who doesn't know what they are talking about when it comes to the speed6's. These cars are sleepers, largely unknown, They do need 93 octane to run like they are supposed to. Stock speed6 drivers get in the 13's on the 1/4 and moderate mods will get you 12s. Fact of the matter is...they are quite fast AND have some class/style.

Give the MS6 an intake, exhaust, a blow off valve, and a boost controller and you can kill anything you want for under $40,000

  • I have a Speed6. Yes the STi is a better track car...no doubt. But all around car with performance, comfort and price considered the STi gets slaughtered. Trust me, if I wanted a car that costs over 50 G's and has no back seat I would've bought a Corvette Z06. You can't argue that a Z06 will blow the doors off anything else on the road...save HIGHLY moded cars.

  • is it really? mazdaspeed6 will kill the 3 out of the hole, so the 6 is the better car for the strip IMO

  • I don't think you have a speed3 if you say you have no torque steer. Either that or you haven't really launched your car. I have a speed6 and I've driven a friend's speed3 and test driven the speed3 at a dealer as soon as it came out. That thing had heavy torque steer. and it's slower than the Speed6 in the 1/4 FYI

  • the fact that none of my previous cars have had anything north of 135bhp means that I've never really been able to compare two cars both with torque steer and say one's more than the other. I've seen the MS3's potential and it's nothing unruly as i can tell. Maybe it does and It really does'nt register to me. Yes it'll snick on un even surfaces but that's really it. DSC on is so straight i can't imagine i'm just 'missing' it.

  • Oh I know what you mean I'm not saying it's massive, but do you get on the car? Cause I'm pretty sure if you got on a 3k or 4k launch you would feel the steering wheel jerking back and forth left and right. That's what happened the first time I launched my friends MS3, wasn't ready for it, heh.
