  • for some reason the bit from 0:41 to 0:48 to me looks like a hallway in a gothic church. im not sure why but it does. anyone else think about that or is just me?

  • perfect for the 60's era

  • wow shit the music is rushing my brain like a highway at 1:31 :D

  • and when you think its over there comes more!

  • The fuck drugs are YOU on?!

  • thanks needed that one

  • analog feedback is always better than digital . . .

  • oooooooo goosebumps hehe

  • I always loved Troughton's title sequence the most. He was great in "The Invasion".

I love the line, "Is this what you wanted, Vaughn? To be the ruler of a dead world!?"

  • Kind of sad that they still have these - but not most of the episodes they were made for! :-(

  • Because these are on film, the episodes were on videotape. Videotape can be wiped and reused, film can't.

Ironic to your comment, the clean Hartnell title sequence has gone AWOL as well.

  • What do you mean?? The Hartnell title sequence was included on the "An Unearthly Child" DVD, with sections that weren't used.

  • @NyeTunes That wasn't from the *titles* film, that was from the original test footage, bits of which went into the finished title sequence.

  • how did they do the titles, considering that they didn't have CGI then?

  • Short answer: video feedback. It's a sort of video echo produced, for example, by pointing the camera at the screen on which its output is being displayed. It should work with your web-cam. It's best in a darkened room with a few small point sources of light. Experiment with relative distance, zoom, twist and tilt between camera and display. You should find all sorts of interesting stable patterns.

  • Brill! I've got this DVD, it's truly one of the best!

  • is this the eater egg from the Tomb of the Cybermen???

  • Yes. Here's hoping someone hands in episode 4 of 'The Tenth Planet', or the rest 'The Web Of Fear' in 2008.

  • yeh that would be brill!!!

  • That will probably be one of the first things done when time travel becomes possible!

  • If I had a clue how do it, I'd also try recreating these titles. I know there're instructions on this board already, but they're not helping me much! :-(

  • well 625-line resolution equipment (what we use now) doesn;t give a very good pattern

405-line resolution, which is what they used when creating these, is what they used, so you'd need to find a 405-line TV and 405-line broadcast TV camera.

  • Kinda difficult, then!

  • extremely difficult!

  • Hey I can actually create the Hartnell sequence on my home video camera. You need to film the recording screen in the mirror and zoom in.

  • The music is fantastic.

  • The way they faded out from Troughton's face in the 2nd opening clip was freaky.

  • If you have a camcorder, I definitely recommend doing that... it keeps you entertained for hours. :-) (Incidentally, the 'spinning' thing at the end is very easy to recreate, just tilt the camera and it does it itself!)

  • Help me do it! I've tried and tried, but all I get is a big reflection thing.

  • That's because your'e using 625-line equipment.

You need a TV set and broadcast TV camera with 405-line resolution and seeing as the 405-line VHF system was abandoned in this country in 1985 it will be difficult!!!

  • What country??

I'm in the USA, and my TV is probably 10 or 12 years old. I can still do howlaround on it, though.

  • The UK.

You can still do howlaround on 625-line equipment here but the results are poorer. the lower number of lines is what creates the pattern here.

  • Yeah, I tried it with a digital camera in a mirror. There were these little icons in the corners of the camera screen, so that's how I got any images at all. It came out looking like an X.

  • don't forget its also a good idea to bring the lighting in the room to a bare minimum and adjust the brightness and contrast on both the camera and television set.

  • . . . and also to have like torches at either side of the camera.

  • The first one looked like it was a neon sign!

  • excelent!!
