@JAllen1963 This was is the BEST album by Deep Purple. PERIOD. Considering Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore were not even speaking to each other during the making of "Who Do We Think We Are!"
One of my all-time favorite Deep Purple tunes. Dyuuuuuude, trippin to this in the back of a van flying around someplace at 90 miles an hour, picking up chicks, hitting parties, gettin busted, etc. Dose were da daze....
Who do we think we are,has allways ranked up there with machine head to me.its an amazing LP considering they where arguing pretty badly in the studio when they made it.was the last LP they made in the greatest lineup they ever had and cemented them as an elite hard rock band in the 70's along with zepplin, sabbath, and the likes. But i am a little biased since i am a huge DP fan
Jon Lord is a MAN!!! That solo in the middle of the song is just astonishing, and is being played with such a style and taste that no other keyboard player comes near mr.Lord when it comes to his art.And if you read this, thanks mr.Lord for a great, sweet music and entertainment you've given to the world through all these years.I just can't stop enjoying it.
The band considered this some of their weakest work... Blackmore and Gillan were at odds and the MkII breakup was just around the corner. I happen to think this is a fantastic album though you can hear reserved playing from Ritchie and Jon takes up the slack -- this is a keyboard-strong album and great drumming from Paice as well -- love the whole thing!
i've one question .... what the hell is 'rat bat blue' like i know what the song is about, but the term 'rat bat blue' iunno what it means and its not online anywhere...
only lucky enough to catch them live in 1984 (almost 1975 as well), but agree with many that Who Do We Think We Are is top notch stuff, in spite of the the band's disclaimer from the time that it was a "junk" album --best junk I ever heard !!
@jeffreygaudreault In May of '73 I was four months shy of my 6th birthday and still shittin' my pants. Now 43, I'm still shitting my pants at how good this tune is. The first Aerosmith and Montrose albums came out that same year and they both still stand up and kick ass today. Classic Rock Rules!
This is music, the hell, i hate my generation .... bieber, britney and the rest. Zeppelin, purple, zz top, and many more got more talent, and better song 100x times
AMAZING Organ solo! Absolutely one of Jon Lords best, I think! Who Do We Think We Are is a very underrated album! Songs like Place In Line with a wonderful vocal performance by Ian Gillan!...
I came to this song via Helloween's cover 5-6 years ago and then started exploring Purple's catalogue and was immediately amazed. Still am actually. :D
When I hear this song it takes me back to the early 70's..to a little club in Wantagh,N.Y. called " Bobby Maxx"..where I could go & listen to band called "Railway & Gun "...they would play Deep Purple songs all night long!!!....and they would slip in a little Jeck Beck every now & then......Too!!....Good old days!! Good old Rock n Roll!! .......Thanks Deep Purple for all your Music!!!!!
Every time I give out my email address/screen name, people ask me "where did you get that from?" I just tell them its from one of my all-time favorite Deep Purple songs :)
liner note on this album funny as hell!! the c.d. generation misses burning one putting on a side and checking out cover graphics and notes. jon lord notes and i may not be exact the fact that i can remember it at all is amazing, states,PEOPLE COME TO OUR SHOWS TO SEE MY ORGAN! classic dry British wit!!
@Paiste2002100 The secret to Jons sound during Mk. II was the addition of a preamp section from some electric piano (can't remember which one at the moment) inside the C-3 (same instrument as the B-3, by the way, but housed in a different cabinet) for more gain, and the use of a Marshall Major 200 watt amplifier and 4x12 speaker cabs instead of the customary Leslies. That organ sound he had during those years is the kind of stuff that could murder an elephant!
Nice song by Deep Purple....I remember the 70's like if it was yesterday. May I say that Caballo Loco from Central America played this song exactly the same. I love it...I am a Deep Purple Fan and Caballo Loco Fan. Don't stop playing their music!!!!!
I can't tell you how many times I have heard this song, but it just keeps getting better each time. All the songs on Who Do We Think We Are! ROCKS times ten!
@jeffreygaudreault Deep Purple. Yes they are great aren't they . And who do we think we are is one of my favs by them. There is a great out-take from that album called Painted Horse. Type it in and enjoy. Let me know what you think. Keep On Rockin'.
I had forgotten how good this tune is. We would party in my Dart and play it all on the 8 Track. Saw them in 1970 with Elf at the Waterbury Palace, CT. Great times!
Un album all'epoca stroncato senza mezzi termini dalla critica e dagli esperti del genere.Premiato dal pubblico di palato fine, e i veri esperti sono i fans che alla fine hanno dato ragione ai Profondo Porpora.Forse molti all'epoca volevano altre Smoke on the water o assoli di Ritchie ancora più lancinanti e strappa applausi. Qui i signori e padroni dell'hard rock hanno creato un perfetto album in perfetto stile Purple.
All True Deep Purple fans show tha love and intellect needed to converse properly.......any hate involved invalidates any statements of logic, cause f we can't discuss Deep then you could be mentally tossed on tha heap..... :D

I'm 50 years old, but when I listen to Rat Bat Blue I feel 13 years old, my age in 1973. Wonderful album. Every single song is a masterpiece. Who do we think we are!
As soon as I heard this track I knew Deep Purple would always be worth listening to. That's as true today as it was in 1973 when I first heard this fantastic music!
@510shakti You're right with this second version! The lyrics for this track were a satirical dig at a campaigner (Mary Whitehouse) who was very active at that time in complaining about explicit song lyrics, sex and bad language on TV, etc. How times have changed!!!
