  • How tall is that snare side quad?

  • The way the tenors accent those first two buzz rolls sounds soooo killer.

  • 1:10 to 1:25.

    love that tenor part.

  • i love the sound of those snare drums, damn tht sounds nice

  • 2:30 wow a "don't fuck with me" expression.

  • @irishknightt haha, right, or an 'ow my arms/hands are burning' expression :p

  • anybody if any of the snares from this season are floating around?

  • i hate the way they play bass in phantom. theyre all about tone but tone doesnt matter when you play so soft no one can hear them. in my opinion the only way to go is cadets style or any east coast sound is always good

  • What?? Do you know what sound quality is??? Dont get me wrong, I love how the Cadets play, but in since 2006 theres no one better about playing the drum. Their approach to the drum is amazing. I love it! I wish more corps would copy. I know thats just me tho.

  • Random question: what is it about marching snares that makes them sound different from what you normally hear on a kit? Is it just the tuning, or is it in the build and materials also?

  • Materials, build, it's really different. The drum heads are a whole ton tighter and made of a different matterial.

  • There is only two things that set them apart.

    1. Nylon snares

    2. depth

Its possible to make a marching drum sound like a standard kit snare

  • both. the heads are made out of something different than just skin like a kit snare. marching snare heads are made out of kevlar, and tuned very tightly.

  • So much phrasing, I love it!

  • damn wish they wouldnt have switched

  • i think this goes up there with the most well written music for marching percussion ever!!! just so tasteful... even the hard stuff comes off so fluidly!

  • my favorite book thats for sure

  • holy cow.

  • omg those bases are AMAZING

  • that reminds me of my high school days playin shit like that.

  • JESUS CHRISTOPHER CHRISTMAS...

I'm snapping my sticks in half and burning them because i don't even deserve to own them...I mean...goddamn...

  • yeah I know its like we are 5 year olds to them

  • what are those rolls at 2:23 called? i know they're not rolls, but what rudiment or whatever is that?

  • Comment removed

  • Its a kinda of pudada. RllRll is the sticking.

  • yeah all it is is a pugaduh. or pudada whatever. just RllR

  • Good example of how to use pearl drums. Nice tuning all around.

  • Too bad they switched to Die-nastys..But I do agree these do sound very nice.

  • They sounded very good on Dynasty. Don't let the way the Blue Devils tuned their drums affect your opinion of Dynasty. It's all in the tuning.

  • Great video, nothing like cranking up the sound with my headphones on to listen to these sick beats. Thanks for the upload!

  • 1:40 - 1:45

    orgasmic basses.

  • omg 2:22 alomost piss my pants on that close up!!

  • teh camera guy focuses too much on the tenors

  • That's 'cause teh camera guy's son is one of teh tenor players... :)

  • lol oh. which one is your dad?

really? I thought there was an age limit to join DCI?

  • other way around, My son is the tenor on the end, I did get some good video of the snares in some of the other parts of this lot. Hard to shoot the basses, maybe from the end but even then probably can't get both hands. Go to the URL at the end of the video, there is a bunch more of the lot, snares and basses. Really need a camera on each section to do it right, mostly I was just tryinmg to get good audio.

  • oh. der lol

well your son is an amazing tenor player.

    =)

  • Jonathan worked hard, like the rest, but it's really Paul Rennick who is amazing, turning out drumlines like this year after year. He's our generation's J.S. Bach! (or whatever).

  • Comment removed

  • what? the TENOR PLAYER is the son. no the father.

  • @dpa100 wow...you must be really proud :D

  • @Jiffybob47 indeed!

  • If only our percussionist in high school could be this good. lol I think they would be scoring 98,99,100!

  • 2:10 = jizz in my pants

  • those were the fastest and cleanest three's i've ever heard. that was some mind blowing shit right there.

  • 2:08

    beautiful quads

  • damn,... shit man, that's so buttery goodness!

  • Rennick is a beast

  • does Rennick write the tenor book?

  • yes, all drumline parts and pit also.

  • Doesn't his wife help with the pit parts?

  • You're right, Sandi Rennick does a lot of the pit. Don't know about this show.

  • no actually tom aungst does... lol wtf haha

  • hahahahahahahaha XDXD

  • does any1 know wer i can find sheet music 4 this?

  • I think rennick knows what hes Doing ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @tapbamtap i highly agree with you. :)

  • these guys are gods. not only the drummers but the teck and rennick as a writer.

how maney people honestly try out for the line. i play tenors and id love to give it a shot when im ou of high school.

  • i fucking love those shells! theyre so awesome

  • wow, awesome!

  • man, that is one cool ass book. Rennick can REALLY write some beats!

  • closer is way better than opener haha

  • i like opener

the writing is just... insanely tasty

    but, hey they're all good!

  • Rennick's such an amazing writer, it's like a composition of it's own, rather than merley accompanying the hornline.

  • All those buzzes kind of make me dry heave after a while.

  • Didn't seem to have that effect on the DCI judges at finals yesterday. Phantom cleaned up. Paul does use a wide variety of color and

    timbre techniques.

  • This is amazingly clean, but judges also take the book into consideration. Compared to BD (minus bd's drum break) Bds book was alot more demanding. Also reason why the judge went crazy over bd's break is because they kept sooo clean while doing all the movement. Yeah anyone can play and move like that but sounding clean with 20 others isnt as easy as it looks.

  • blue devils had a shit battery section in 07, plain and simple.

the "body movement" is nothing i haven't seen high school kids do, they were fucking dirty the entire time, and regiment was clean. the end.

  • @UserNameRulesSuck blue devils won. the end.

  • @giovanniluevano bd wins because they get slotted high. their shows are terrible every fucking year yet they still get first. DCI is pure politics, even the drum numbers are bullshit sometimes.

  • what was that face at 2:30 lol

  • That was the face of heavenly Joe House.

  • Comment removed

  • one intimidating dude!

  • haha, tenors are dancin! i would be too

  • tenor vis at 2:10 is BA

  • this drumline is WAAY too fucking clean! it's scary! :-0

  • I know!!! thats exactly what i said

i even tapped out the tempu using my sticks

    amazing!!!

  • the basses are just so....beautiful

  • not the best bass line phantom has had in recent years!!! actually one of the reasons i think they lost high percussion. unfortunate but true

  • Well that just shows that even when not their best, they can still execute to a high high high high level.

  • blue devils suck, howd they get best percussion twice in a row?

  • They didn't...

  • Regiment got it in 06. :-D

  • amazing. so clean.

  • does any one have the score for the immagrant beat? please message me!!

  • thought they were gonna take drums, but i gotta admit, BD was pretty amazing, and i dont know about bluecoats

  • I dont know about finals for the show. But in the lot I think the cleanest was Bluecoats, check out some of their vids, tickless. This vid has a few ticks that actually stick out when you listen. Meh BD did some AMAZING ticks in the lot but their on field show must have been much better.

  • Just sayin, BD wasn't the only one to beat them.

  • how can you not say anything about the 05 line? one of the best of all time

  • yeah i agree!!

  • '03 was pretty tight as well...

  • i dont understand how bd could beat phantom in drums, there is just no comparison.

  • This is one of the best Phantom lines i've seen since 03/04

  • yeah it's hard to beat 03 but i think the snares and tenors are a little better than 03. the basses on the other hand are most certainly not!!!

  • 03 drums were not that great IMO

  • we are all entitled to one!!!

  • I wish I could arrange like that...=( someday...

  • I think that's the best PR quadline I've seen.

  • No line can play 3's ( :45 ) better than Phantom Regiment. Best Drumline at Dci Finals.

  • definitely the best quad line phantom's ever had!!!

  • That's sick, the hornline is equally as impressive, I love Phantom, my first place I want to march when i get a chance to march junior corps... Damn school scheduling an AP's and Finals..

  • so clean its like orgasmic

  • 2:26 :)

  • hahaha

  • This is great! I was right next to you in the lot, but your recordings are way better quality than mine. :)

  • Thanks! Were you the guy with the disk recorded and stereo mike?

  • No, I was the guy to the right of him. I'd like to see his recordings, though.

  • You can go to the URL at the end of the video for the whole Phantom warmup recorded in 24 bit stereo as *.wav files, also some higher-res mpeg videos with hi-fi audio.

  • Haha, I was the guy with the disc recorder and stereo mike.

  • Where are your vids of this?

  • Well, I haven't posted them yet. I was recording the whole time so there's about 2 hours of the semifinals lot. I also got the semis bass and tenor sectionals. There seems to be a ton of videos of the same thing, so I never made it a priority to post them. However, if there's enough demand, I might be convinced otherwise.

  • Hey, cool, please post them, I would enjoy listening to CD quality audio and vid of this... :D

  • consider this post as my demand. lol. please and thank you if you do. =)

  • Strange discrepancy with the feet at :52

  • no discrepancy... they were coming out of a stand fast.

  • So two of the quads move to 2nd position while the others stay in a closed position?

I really mean :49 or so... Their standing positions were the discrepency i saw.

  • rofl, is that seriously what you take away from this?

  • yeah pretty much. nothing else caught my attention

    [sarcasm]

  • freakin awesome...and whats more awesome is i get to see paul again this weekend for DCA finals, he wrote our book and hes coming in again :-)

  • Nice vid. But, this is compressed mp3, so is definitely not 16/44.1 redbook (CD) audio standard. But it does sound nice for what it is!

  • Sick. Thanks for vid. Please post more if you have any.
