Yes i like that technique-- i have been used to just coming to the curb fast while lefting my small wheels up and then the force brings me up over the curb. It works and it doesnt work depending ont he curb. Will have to use your way- what to you do when there is nothing to grab to lift you up?

Parking meters, signs, small trees, bike racks all work equally. I can usually jump any curb 6" or less.
