You can see I think the white roof of the "Salt" factory where the poor worker lost his life. I'm told he was working on a high elevator and apparently fell to his death. RIP. The storms that followed on the 24th were very powerful.
I was in goderich at the time of the storm, only 1 street away from st. patrick. We had been watching the weather network not 2 minutes prior the storm, and there was no warning. the storm came without warning, and the weather network changed it after to cover their asses. lucky the death toll was no higher then 1.
@tso1415 . Oh wow! That's insane... I don't know enough about the weather network, but it's crazy how something like this could NOT be noticed on radar!
@filipnaw ...again; remember the tornado was forming OVER WATER therefore not as crisp and defined as you see over land. And certainly nothing like 'the movies' show. The tornado is definitely in there... within less than 2 minutes from ending this film; hail as big as golf-balls and even bigger was hitting my car and simultaneously the town was ravaged.
@stevenwg19 When a system such as this moves across the lake it picks up the water as the cyclone forms. It is not as defined as one would view on dry land.
@stevenwg19 you kidding me right this is exactly what a super cell looks like... it seriously doesnt get much clear then this, this is just screaming that its gunna put down a tornado
@sickwedios Actually it wasn't even a textbook super cell. I wonder if you know much about these storms. Plus if you knew anything, you can NEVER tell what storm will put down a tornado because science can NOT tell which storm will produce one.
@stevenwg19 actually it was a textbook super cell and if you heard it wasnt clearly they havent seen this video...clearly i know more then you because im sure you did some searching and all your perfect punctuation... Science obviously cant tell what storms are going to produce tornados but they can make on hell of a prediction on what ones have a chance of producing them, seeing as they can send tornado "warning" and "watch".
@sickwedios I highly doubt that you know more about tornadoes then I do. Watches and Warnings happen all the time yet nothing touches down. Over here in Calgary we've been in about 5 Watches/Warnings yet nothing ever touched down. The radar probably showed circulation within it which is what gave them their 12 minute warning. That is NOT a textbook supercell. For starters wheres the inflow band/tail? What about the shelf's? And No, I didn't have to do any searching. I know this stuff
@sickwedios Just cause you live 20 minutes from Goderich doesn't mean anything. I could have watched Radar from my house. You should go back to science class and learn a thing or two.
@stevenwg19 Remember your looking at the southern end of the cell and the RFD. Check TVN for a pic of the hook echo from the Exeter radar. My father could see the shelf and striated clouds from Seaforth (off to the east about 20km).
@zasafar I know what a waterspout is. That looks like it was where the rain was wrapping so the circulation began to tighten up. Im pretty sure the tornado didn't got from water to land.
i was in this with my family we were in the maitland falls campground it came right over us my mom and grandpa got pined under a tree THANK GOD no one was seriously injured im soo thankful that everyone is alive my prayers go out to all the familys of goderich i know what u went through and i hope we NEVER EVER have to go through anything like this again <3
@sebordom To be honest...the only reason I had footage was that I was just leaving the beach since it had suddenly started to rain...but then the sun came out... and this was occurring... I am a photographer and naturally had to take pics of the 'cool clouds'...
My guess is that most of the ones still AT the beach were in the process of leaving and not thinking about it.
Go in to "edit' & change the title of your video & everyone will be able to find & view it .. something like "Tornado Approaching Goderich, ON, Aug 21, 2011".
I was lucky enough to see a tornado near my farm June 22, 2008, just NE of Bryanston .. had quickly determined it was safely moving away from me, so I grabbed my camera & jumped in the car ... do a Google search for "2 of 6 tornado london" to view the actual video footage.
Thanks for the research footage. What you witnessed was a waterspout that became a mesocyclone (tornado) on land, which is very rare across the Great Lakes but it had enough variables to stay formed. Fortunately, you were out of harms way. I would of loved chase that one. Glad your safe! Alumni Research - University of Western Ontario
@futureunknown IN a way, I also wish I had been able to keep filming, however, it was within moments that the wind hit followed swiftly by hail the size of golf-balls... glad I made it back to my car to seek cover...
isnt it weird that ever year between aug 10 to 30 theres like tornados and severe storms?
