I think the second book would have made a better movie. They could still incorperate a bit more of the first book with flashbacks and it wouldnt be as hard with the Ayla starting to talk. plus the love story with Jondalar I would love to see in film!
oh my gosh i love this video. ive read every book by the author apart from her last resent on bu when i googled her i found this video, and wow! amazing job ive never seen the movie and now i want to watch it but i cant find it anywere. do you think you can upload the movie? even if it has to be in parts? please!!! im asuming you have the video because of the amazing video you made. id really appriciate it and im pretty sure plenty others would.
films are never the same as the books i've read all the boks and finisching the last one and if there ever make a remake of the movie from book one they should take a child to play the young Ayla, and take an older actress in the later parts when she meets Jondalar,it would be great

A rubbish feminist fantasy fiction novel and film out to bash males by depicting them as everything inferior and women as everything superior. You're left with a sense that it was women that advanced us from the stone age to where we are now because the evil male character who oppresses, rapes, and bullies the woman heroine until she hands his ass to him at the end, that we'd still be living in the stone age. It's a "You go girl, teach that inferior male a lesson about girl power!" story.
@NautyKnight You really should read the other books in the series. You might find that thos are neanderthals and she isint one of them. You will be quite surprised later how though she is an exeptional woman, the story is quite diffrent. Honestly i prefer that Vally of horses would have been the first book rather than this one.
@NautyKnight You obviously haven't read the other books in the series... She finds her own people who don't practice gender specific roles. She finds a man who is perfect for her and loves her more than anything else in the world and will do anything for her. Also, it is a HISTORICAL fiction novel, Jean Auel had to do loads of research to write the books. There is a horrible evil woman character in the 4th book, she oppresses all of the men she comes in contact with. That was one man.
@NautyKnight u kind a right... but...in prehistoric edges womens was one who build the social system (cause women have the need to speak to the family in to the house, & a man no)
wtf, i mean, ayla left the clan and her son when she was still a kid herself, umm, not even 15? And this "ayla" in the movie is more like 30 -.- oh well
I'm reading the book now....I'm only like 100 pages into it and I already love it!! Hope it stays good, my cousin is on the 3'rd book and she says I'll love it, hope I do!
@TheHatterFan I've read the book once before! It's good but, not as good as the movie! In the book before the end Creb dies in another earthquake and Broad blames Ayla and curses her with death! However, in the end Ayla finally finds her great lion strength and power to fight Broad!
@UnversedSong Yeah, I wanna see some special features and what not. Interviews, perhaps kind of a reunion sorta thing, reflections from the cast and creators.
@AnikaNylak Since when has any book been like any movie? I am just glad that they made such a good movie from such a good book. I saw this movie when when I was nine until now. Back then it was a good movie and until now when I watched it almost 20 years later, it is still good.
Hmm I don’t know that I would say the novels are works of art, certainly interesting/thought provoking. I am disappointed in the “ giving/ receiving of pleasures” scenes, reminded me of when I was in high school read romance novels. I also think her reuse of word(s) became a little tiresome. As for who should play a new Ayla, would like to see someone a little more on the Cro-Magnon side, I think their standard for “really beautiful” would not be our idea e.g. Scarlet Jo... just my thoughts.
.. I couldn't watch it, just finished the book and if the movie is anywhere close as good i cant ruin it for myself. Haven't heard great things but the book was beyond amazing, i cried like a little bitch when Iza died.
the image I get of Ayla in my head from reading all the books isn't even a clearly defined image... because she is supposed to be perfectly beautiful. however if i had to choose someone for a remake i think jennifer lawrence might be good especially after i saw the picture of her from hunger games
I would like to watch a remake of the movie. Im reading the book now. I think Darryl Hannah is too old to be Ayla - in my imagination she's just a very young teenager, when she is 'grown up'.
In some ways, I liked the movie better than the book. Mostly at the end. I bawled at both when she had to leave Durc behind, but the movie did end better than the book. I would not want to see anyone try to remake the Clan of the Cave Bear movie, but it would be cool to see what would happen if someone made movies out of some of the other books.
I wouldn't pick anyone I would let qualified people do that!
The movie doesn't do justice to the book and I hope they make a remake where they pick better cast and portray neanderthals the real way and how they really were.
@sfs2036 A stupid person is one who assumes they know a strangers motivations. The character of Ayla is from a worldwide best selling series of novels by Jean Auel, which are brilliant. Try reading them before you assume you can encapsulate the character of Ayla as a 'badass cavewoman'. Making such a bold statement only reflects your ignorance and how unread you are.
@yiqanuc How are the novels? They obviously have an interesting setting but how is the writing style, characterization, etc.? Do they try to accurately portray paleolithic humans or rather make them more modern and thus easier to understand?
@RainyDayzandFunDayz I just finished the book. Beeing named after a great Klan-member is an honor, form their perspective. You should seriously be proud, though.
I do wish we had traditions like that in my familiy.
I wish they would name me Charles-Bernstein-Creb Darwin-Nietzsche-Kafka-Eddison :D
I wish I could go back and experience the thrill of reading The Clan of the Cavebear for the first time again. Although I've read all 5 books over and over, when I was 13 the first in the EC series was the book that started my love of reading and I've never lost it.
@Spitballer09...It would be hard to make a movie enjoyable that stays close to the book. They speak in sign language...no one likes to read subtitles. But if they found a way to fix it...maybe Katherine Heigle or Scarlett Johansson. They seem like they sorta look like her.
@smilez4u0102 Well I recently read that a Hyoid bone was discovered in a neanderthal back in the day and with the speculation that with a large brain could (but only limited) speak. With basic communication skills and sign, could make for an interesting remake. Also as with the first film have a narrator for more exposition. Check out ''The Top 10 Misconceptions of Neanderthals'' @ yahoo.com
@Spitballer09 Science has now actually backed Auel's then 'theory' on Neanderthals communication. A 'remake' of the film? Not likely. Another version of the book, being closer to the authors writings and maybe directed by someone that actually read the book would be great though. Try reading the book (series), the film is just a shadow of the quality of book 1.
@Spitballer09 ...It would be hard to make a movie enjoyable that stays close to the book. They speak in sign language...no one likes to read subtitles. But if they found a way to fix it...maybe Katherine Heigle or Scarlett Johansson. They seem like they sorta look like her.

While I am a devoted fan of the EC series and have read all 5 books at least 5 times (actually re-reading right now in anticipation of receiving LPC on 3/29!), but I do have to say, this was the worst adaptation of a book I have ever witnessed. OMG, I am sure Jean Auel took one look at this ridiculous movie that pales in comparison to the rich, descriptive book she wrote, and decided never again. I would love to see it redone with today's technology and do all 5 books.
