This song is nothing to with any religion organised or otherwise. It's written from the point of view of a man abusing the woman he's with and asking forgiveness for the unforgiveable. That's why the rockier, more heartfelt versions (The Animals' original, Elvis Costello for instance) bring out the characteristics of the song better.

I have always loved this guy's music, but never heard him sing this song. In fact, I haven't heard a lot of his work since he was Cat Stevens, but I always loved his songs. This is by far the best version of this song I've found so far.

I remember Cat Stevens from years ago, Morning has broken, Tea for the Tiller man etc He always seemed to me to be sincere, whether anyone approves of his conversion or not, he was true to himself and his values and beliefs. Not to mention the clarity and timbre of his voice, with its gentle delivery. Vastly underrated artist I would say, Islam is his faith now, but he has not deserted us, still singing for us, still giving.

I have always loved this guy's music, but never heard him sing this song. In fact, I haven't heard a lot of his work since he was Cat Stevens, but I always loved his songs. This is by far the best version of this song I've found so far.
