  • 8:30 a-pawn dropping

Well in this case it really could be crushing. Perfectly placed bishops and a queenside assault against cramped pieces, and taking down the b-pawn means the a-pawn is passed... it's totally game over.

  • great annotation!

  • Instead of ... Qg6 why not play d5 strait away?

  • I think the problem with Qxf4 there would be Nb5! threatening both Nxc7 and also Bxc5, uncovering the attack on the Queen. If Bxf2+ then simply Rxf2 and White wins (Queen is attacked, Nxc7 is also threatened.)

  • Could someone please explain why black can't win a second pawn at 5:53, Qxf4? Is there some clear refutation that I'm just missing?

  • If he doesnt use a move to take the Knight the C7 fork is a threat, after using that move he had to move his knight because it was attacked by two pawns, then white reinforced the F4 square

    Not enough time

  • @ chessgames

I'm sure Kasparov is well aware about considerations about 'fairness' etc..

But I would allege him an idealistic vision: I think he's sorta "believing" in that boy and thinks he'd be able to push chess to a higher level, he once mentioned that motive ..

Expectations are high but I think Carlsen might fulfill them.

  • Wonderful video KC

  • The e4 pawn was damn impressive. I guess no doubt this pawn "gambit" is partly Kasparov's work. The Scotch was one of his secret weapons, wasn't it? But it's very nice. Can't wait to watch the Topalov match you have up.

I'll note this. These grandmasters are pretty damn adaptive and GK is not invincible. So Carlsen is not exactly shoe-in for the next World championship title. He's still got his work cut out for him although I'm definitely rooting for him. :)

  • well if really got enough talent then let hiim prove him self on his own rather than borrowing the greatest world champion according to many.

how is any GM going to cope with that , they are after all playing for big money prizes and livelyhoods and Kasparov is interfering big time !!.

  • Why do you think its bad that he's being coached?

It's normal to have coaches. Singers have vocal coaches, basketball players have basketball coaches, musicians have music coaches so what's wrong with chess players having chess coaches?

  • Kasparov is Carlsen's coach!? Hmm, I think that's good for chess after all. Now will be chess again more exciting! Don't forget, Carlsen have a talent even without Kasparov!

& others can still have Rybka for a coach. :P

  • it is completely biased and unfair of Kasparov to be coaching a top 20 player specially considering that Kasparov is still stronger than every body exept maybe for Kramnik .

it is maybe fair however if Kasparov was coaching beginers like other do if he truely is doing for the love of chess & not for malice towards Kramnik ,Annad & Tapolav

you must be the real fool for not seeing the huge competetive tipping of scales into Carlsen`s favour & because Gary is the best so it makes it very odd .

  • do you think Garry is coaching Carlsen for free or do you think Garry voluntary offered Carlsen to coach him??. Nothing of that, it was Carlsen who wanted GK coach him and he said that Kasparov charges him very expensive.

  • You fools. accusing Kasparov of selling out!?? ARE YOU CRAZY?, Kasparov is coaching Carlsen because he loves chess and that this will help chess. ... and that he is the talented one, The best,

  • Dont be so naive, Kasparov is coaching Carlsen because Carlsen hired GK and Kasparov accept it for a very expensive prize.

  • at 5:13, shouldn't it still be Nc7+ winning the rook, rather than Nd6+? Moving the c7 pawn up to c6 doesn't prevent the fork, it just prevents the pawn from being taken.

  • KC,''Pogonina'' has accent on the second syllable.

  • Not to take anything away from Carlsen because he is an exceptional player, but this is definitely Kasparov's ingenious preparation. After all Kasparov was a huge proponent of the scotch opening.

  • why is Kasparov coaching Carlsen ???? ;P

WHAT A SELL OUT TRAITOR AND GREAT DISSERVICE TO HIS FELLOW COUNTRY MEN CHESS PLAYERS......

  • Yeah, whatever mate.

  • I tried pasting the PGN info in the description into WinBoard and it tells me "Illegal Move: 31. ...Nxh4"

Perhaps the variations (I assume those moves in parentheses are variations) are unsupported by that client... hmm. Thing is there is no 31 ...Nxh4 in the description, just a Nxh4 for move 29. Weird.

  • Kasparov reintroduced the scottish game into serious chess when he deployed it against Karpov in lyon in their 1990 WC match.

  • "Carlsen castles" is quite a jawbreaker.

that Carlsen is so great and instructive that I started to use the Queens Indian Defence although it seems that he loses quite a few games in this line. but for me that was a lesson for going down slowly.

  • nice vid!
