I looked up the definition and origin of petcock: a cock is a valve to release water or air from a boiler or tank. petard is the origin from french meaning to break wind; pet for short means fart so .......
It is a Fart Valve, dude !
named for when they released pressure in the boiler by using this valve !
i got a smacks design with no electrical leakage....need to finish it and camera it...well reallys its just wall plates and dont use any nuts but on the end and uses half the plates as a smack but twice the output per plate...again no leakage...soon
I dont think I am inducing that much stress to the acrylic when I tighten the cap. It uses a 45 degree angled rubber bevel seal so it should expand evenly and it seals almost too good!
If you notice I do have a compression clamp in that area and in turn that bolts onto my steel arm that holds the unit on the car frame.
In any even we really do not need that great of a seal on these units as long as the gas is free to escape thru the air intake.
Also, I ditched the poly tube and now use extruded acrylic and rubber pop off end caps. For those using the PVC, thread tape the hell out of it for now and use some high temp grease. That will seal it up.
Good video bro, and really nice work! You are funny as shit....
The incredible thing is - I am working on the smae exact thing! I tried the same compression cap and found it did not hold up to the heat. I hired a machine shop to lathe out new pieces from cast acrylic rod. I found a way to isolate the feedthru's without loosening them. You will see this on my units soon. Just wanted you to know firsthand I didn't scarf the idea off of you. I was working on the same thing and had no idea you were doing it as well.
LOL! Now that IS weird cause I was gonna make some more next week and send you a free set! You still want a set of tops for free?
Either that or I will donate a set on your behalf maybe thru EBN if ya want.
And no I dont care if you make them. Thats what open source is all about brotha!
I actually do not have to take off the terminals but I do that so i can remove the whole cell and not worry about the wires. I am also replacing the nuts with SS spacers to bring the terminals up higher.
I have some changes to make (I will be trying De-Ionized water vs Distilled), adding 2 neutral plates to the outside and shrink wrapping the unit as Smack shows in his video's, and the addition of a PWM to the unit so I'll see what I git when I implement those.
Like the top. Picked one up today. Like to know how you cut the top to fit the gasket and pipe.I have a table band saw but I don't think I can match the orginal design.
Best way to get that top to seal is use plumber's tape of the threads and a 6" hose clamp around the outside. Tighten it down real good and that top will seal...
they make a low pressure relief 7-10psi relief. you should glue your bubbler all the way in order to keep from having any leaks. and thread your relief in your cap. i think the reliefs are 3/8 MIP.
Well, I have seen it done both ways. I like mine better as I know a backfire would have to go thru water first then blow the top off. The other way with a tube from the top and outlet from the top is it could blow off the tube incoming and ignite the gas in the top of the bubbler. You should not have the bubbler totally filled with water.
They are custom made by me. :) from acrylic and turned on a lathe to form the outside and the 45degree tapered lip to hold the rubber compression washer.
I will make these uppers complete but I am going to change from acrylic to PEEK or a different material. They work very well but I am noticing that the terminals git a bit hot and seem to infuse the acrylic just a bit on the positive side.
I will git a cost for a set when I decide on a material to use. Remind me in about a week or so for cost.
are the plates, just wall plates?

HAHA!
Now see, being a redneck I can relate to a Fart Valve alot better than a petcock. If ya know what I mean! :)
Thanks for finding that info out!

Stop playing with your pet cock, and get a kitten.

this time more serious comment, wouldn't be a good idea to put a steel ring on the outside of the o-ring to keep up with some stress on the tube
just a thought

You had me laughing several times throughout the video. Good job. How's your pet cock doing? BTW liter per minute test?

Thanks. The ole pet cock is doing just fine. LOL
Right now I git 1.5lpm

Sorry, but there are no threads in this design.
It is a compression cap. Takes about 60-80 psi to blow it off.
The hose clamp on the outside is for me to mount it to the vehicle. :)

Smack what type of milage are you getting

At 20 amps without a PWM best I am gitting is from 29 to 42mpg on straight gas, and from 24 to 36 on 10% ethanol. PWM comes in this week I hope. :)

Caerus247 3 years ago
I dunno, If you glue the bubbler tops on then how ya gonna fill the bubbler if you need to?
I'd rather have the bubbler top left un-glued.
Makes it easier to maintain and acts as a pressure blow off too.
I have found that it does not leak like people think. I designed PVC and tapered fitting milds so I know it will seal. :)
DMBing 3 years ago
looks good. but the bubbler looks unfinished, is there supposed to be a tube going from through the top down into the water -you know like a bong?
