I still go to shows too, last one was Buddy Guy (4th time) 6 weeks ago and his band opening for the Greg Allman Band. Since the ABB (saw them 6 times) are doing few shows as Greg is promoting Low Country Blues and Warren Haynes is promoting Man in Motion, I saw the Warren Haynes Band the month before (seen Gov't Mule 6-7 times over the years). Put the vid on.
the vocals are killer ,the writing and playing superb...this band replaced members and morphed into captain beyond the greatest unknown heavy rock band of all time.
@LanceHelmut I disagree. By Metamorphosis, the original guitar player Erik Brann was gone, and Rhino & Pinera played on Metamorphosis as IB "With Pinera and Rhino". So you could argue they were hired hands. Believe Pinera had also been on Atco with Blues Image. His voice and guitar solo on Ride Capt Ride for the Image were killer. Doug Ingle was gone. So that only leaves Dorman. But it was a sort of supergroup of second tier great rockers including Purple's original Hush singer Rod Evans of MK 1.
@craiglouis metamorphosis..aptly titled.. all those personnel changes were positive steps...with the song "stone believer" my by far fave ib tune (despite the faux 3-dog night vocal approach) 2nd tier or not..5 decades of lovin' rock music and i put the 1st capt. beyond album up there with revolver/pepper, electric ladyland and imperial bedroom.
@LanceHelmut I agree, title's apt & one of my favorites. No duds on the disc.Missed more of Ingle and Brann's tone. They were evolving into the 70s from the beginning of Hard Rock/ 'Delic/Metal. Ahead of the curve. Got 1st LP Heavy in 6th grade. My dad took it. My mom defended the merits of rock (cited Beatles, Byrds) before he gave it back. Liked the 1st Beyond. Sufficiently Breathless & personnel changes were it for me. Could rate the 1st Beyond as very nice. It's on my 160 gig iPOD.
@craiglouis boy , you don't like personnel changes ..sufficiently breathless is a fantastic follow-up because of those changes and the widening of the musical scope. bought meet the beatles in '64..age 13..my parents knew i was on a mission with music and what i wanted out of life, and left me to my own devices..musically, politically and spiritually
@LanceHelmut Got same Beatles late 64 @ 10. No offense dude just a preference thing. No need to get personal with broad statements about change. It's preference. I like eras of Santana who's gone through a few dozen people, or Miles one of whose talents was finding & grooming new members. Dad had Orange Co. Republican issues. Remember the era & generation gap. So u were lucky if it was all smooth sailing. Most of us had occasional confrontations. Change can be good. If you like it.
@craiglouis orange county..wow i'm waiting on an appearance schedule for this wild chick working out of orange county...i'm retired in s.c. across the river from augusta ga. (home of j.brown steve morse and the masters golf tournament..it's even redder than orange county..i'm a free roamer ..we'll meet and go to a kwuel concert sometime in 2012 if you like..and i'll have a music performance vid on yt you can laugh at soon..write anytime bud..lancehelmut
Ah, the memories this one brings back! I just recently found this CD and playing the first time was like a great flashback to those days. My 18 year old LOVED the whole CD.
I seriously need to play this tune over and over in a bar with a jukebox...at least like 50 times. Until all the patrons want to kill me. I'm sure there are others who understand. . .
hey blazerrips, did this song come out in 1968, i was ii around then, your butterfly videos are the best man, i really missed this music man, great to hear it,dont get high tonight man.cause i did instead. yeah
To Hayley820. I was 14 years old and in middle school when this was a hit. I bought this album and still have it. You're right. I also thought it should have been more of a hit. I heard it several times on the radio stations here in L.A. county, but not enough. Iron Butterfly, unfortunately, got type-cast into In-a-gaddadavida. They had lots of other interesting tunes that were sadly overlooked.
I also liked in the crowds from this album.....man..... this was soooooo long ago
I was 12 and also in what was then called Jr High in Smyrna Tennessee when this came out.....I should say that Hayley's my kid....I don't think she ever surfs youtube.... I love it...I look for the forgotten things and see if I can find them....for instance....remember Joey Heatherton? I looked up her mattress commercials to test this with...and you know... it's up here
I remember this song was all over the radio back in 1969...and actually, the "Ball" album (that this song was taken from) charted higher than the "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" album. There are other great songs on the "Ball" album including "Filled With Fear", "It Must Be Love" and "In The Time Of Our Lives". I've always loved music that was heavy, yet still kept a sense of melody. This is/was a pretty cool group.
This is such a cool song and right now I am 13 years old all over again......I never understood why this song didn't make it bigger.. the only trouble with this band is that they didn't make more music than they did! thanks so much for putting it up here this from a most grateful exhippie chick
you never hear it anymore...... it was cool to find it here....actually it was a test....I said to myself "Self, what is the rarest of songs with which to test this thing called 'youtube'?" and immediately the answer came..... I enjoyed finding it!
