  • can i use solvent WD40?

  • @clg3152010 If you don't have anything else you could.. I would prefer something else.

  • The solvent you use first_ When you say solvent what chemical in particular is it?

  • @kingklabe The solvent used is made by Barnes CR-10. Its a copper and lead remover, its very strong stuff... and it smells terrible (ammonia) work wonderful

  • Does anyone know how to tighten the front sight? I have a Taurus 1911 with heinie sights and the front one just started to wiggle. I assume it is an Allen screw correct me if I am wrong.

  • @BallisticExpansion Red loctite

  • Great video! Should have my 1911 next week perfect video for how to clean it!

Do you have part numbers for the cleaning tools you used via the bushes and swabs..etc.

    Thanks,

    -Nigel

  • Iv'e found out from a few guys that using a can of non Clorinated Brake cleaner sprayed on the gun parts works great,? For breaking down old carbon fouling & oil etc & it does not harm the gun or any of its parts.? but it must be the non Clorinated kind & not the regular cleaner.?

  • I found that an old tooth brush comes in handy for scrubbing out the inside if the frame etc. great detailed video thanks for posting.?

  • I RARELY ever go out of my way to comment on any videos but I have to say a big THANK YOU for this tutorial. Couldn't have been any more helpful... especially coming from a background of field stripping only plastic guns (Glock, M&P, etc) - Thanks again! +1

  • @jspec7m88 Thank you. Glad you found it helpful.

  • @jspec7m88 Have you ever used or tried any Mobil 1 on any of your guns,? I have been reading a lot of forums that have suggested this on their firearms.?

  • Great video! Thanks for putting this up! I just used your video to clean my RIA 1911 for the first time. Any specific recommendations on solvents, grease, etc?

  • @BMFDTarHeels As far as solvents and lubrication... I think most of it is good stuff.. The key really is just to keep the gun clean. I like Gun slick, hoppes, Pro Tec, Break Free CLP, shooters choice. Ive had good luck with it all. Thanks for watching the video. Enjoy your gun.

  • Is the barrel link supposed to go down easy? I just took mine apart and i need to put little force to get it down, it was not like this before..

    Thanks

  • @TopGear20 It should move with ease dropping back and forth with gravity really. Sounds like maybe yours may be having some issues.

  • Try using a tooth brush to brush off the gunk, much easier to work with.

  • @gooztala umm....? I did use a toothbrush... Did you watch the whole video?

  • Have you had any issues with that pistol? It looks like a Kimber and I have a Kimber CDP and have had nothing but feeding problems with it. I have tried all sorts of ammo and it still stovepipes and FTF all the time.

    any suggestions?

  • @Posterharpua Never any trouble with this Kimber. Sounds like you need to send yours back to Kimber to get fixed or something.. Or... Is your gun clean? maybe sounds like a dumb question but guns are machines and need to be clean to work right.

  • @Posterharpua Consider how you hold the gun. If you hold it loosely, meaning not keeping your arm stiff,it can stovepipe on you.

  • @Posterharpua send that bitch back.

  • Just bought my first kimber eclipse custom 2 and thank god I watched your video. I'm used to easy m&p field stripping until I launched the retainer on the spring across the room. Thanks a lot for taking the time to make the video!!

  • Awesome Video Man, Just Bought A Taurus 1911, Showed Me Everything I Needed To Know To Break It Down, Clean It, And Put It Back Togther.

  • Nice vid. I just bought two kimber 1911s @ and this was a great help. Thank you

  • why wouldn't you want to drop the hammer while its disassemble?

  • @duncheche Because it could damage the frame.

  • Standing the slide up when oiling is a good idea.

  • i like the sights, very nice gun

  • Was gonna ask the same of the firing pin. Can you show how to clean it as well. Do you need to remove it to clean it. When you get a chance to clean the fire pin it would be awesome if you could show how to do it. Great vid.

  • Well done!

  • @zerosborne I typically clean the firing pin, firing pin channel, and extractor about every 500-1000 rounds. Just don't keep any lube on the firing pin/in the firing pin channel.

  • I wash them in the washing machine but not very often. =) Some anyway, not all.. Some i just scrap.

  • Hello - I hope this won't sound like a stupid question - but what do you do with the dirty greasy rags when you are finished with them?? Thank You. Sincerely, JAMES.

  • Best I've seen and without any adds or opinions. Your speed and dexterity is something to behold. Please do a Militec-1 video and/or your preference of specialized lubes. Thanks for all the info.

  • Fabulous directions; thnxx

  • thank you

  • VERY NICE

  • 2 likes one for owning a mac two for owning a 1911

  • Fix to buy me a 1911 Taurus

  • thanks for the video.im afraid if i take mine aprt i wont get it back together.

  • @1949man i agree , his 1911 was so far ahead of everything at the time makes him seem genius

  • Exceptional* : |

  • Exception! Thank answered a lot of questions for a first timer!

  • Exellent video. Must have been a teacher at one time. very comprehensive detailed explanation of each procedure.

  • i wonder how many man hours did John M. Browning use to build a working pistol 1911 from scratch?

  • @firefox8192 However many hours he used was well worth it in my opinion.........100 yrs.& going stronger than ever.

  • Awesome video, thanks for making it.

  • Oh, and I use a Bore Snake.

  • Great video. Not that i'm an expert by any means, but instead of going to great lengths with the towel, q-tips and patches, i give my parts a good dousing with spray gun cleaner and wipe them down with shred free utility paper towels. On the chassis I use a small toothbrush and wipe any excess carbon with a dry utility paper towel. The spray cleaner gets the parts clean in a fraction of the time. And then I spot lubricate the high wear areas, and reassemble.

  • Ahhh, im so anal about my cleanings. Cant help but wince when you are using the same patch and just pushing in and out. I know it doesnt really matter. Im just so damn OCD when cleaning them. I wouldve used like 15 patches in the cleaning lol.

  • Thanks a ton, this video was very helpful.

  • Good job! Thanks for sharing this. Really helpful. :)

  • At 3:25, your frame is angled towards the camera, and about 1" from the end, there is a small hole with a "wedge" sticking out - is that the Kimber "Schwartz" firing pin safety block?

    Excellent video, btw. Beautiful gun!

  • @snappydoodad What you are seeing is the disconnector. This is a pre series II pistol and does not have the firing pin block, however you are looking in the right place, had this been a series II you would see another hole to the left and back a bit. When the grip safety is depressed a little rod protrudes from the hole, pressing the firing pin lock in the slide and thereby releasing it.

  • muy bueno el vídeo yo tengo una Ballester Molina 22, pero nunca le desarme el cargador para limpiarla gracias.

  • What solvent and oil do you prefer to use?

  • @pootydin CLP Break Free, Hoppes, Shooters choice, Pro-tech, Gun slick. I have used lots of different brands.. Ive liked them all. This new barnes CR-10 stuff works great but it stinks bad.. I like the syringe type of applicators for oil.

  • Great video. I just picked up my first 1911, a springfield GI-A1. Is the basic process the same as far as breaking it down?

  • @correction1555 Process is same with exception of the guide rod, I doubt yours will be full length so you wont need a bushing wrench.

  • Nice Kimber.

  • By far one THE BEST videos on YouTube detailing the proper cleaning/lubricating of a 1911. IDBIGBORE4570, you did an excellent job with your detailed field strip and cleaning tips. I just picked up a Kimber Eclipse Custom II and this video was exactly what I was looking for. It's my 1st 1911 and I want to be sure I give it a good clean & lube before I take it to the range for the 1st time. Thanks dude, I really appreciate it.

  • @Siah1009 Hey thanks a bunch I appreciate the input. You will enjoy your Kimber. I LOVE mine I've had it since `99 and have put lots of lead down range with it. Its been a wonderful and extremely reliable firearm. On your custom II with the firing pin safety be sure not to depress the grip safety when taking the slide off the frame. Check your owners manual if you have not already. The II's are slightly different in that regard.
