I'm prepping my garden now. I have the ground plowed, and have started adding topsoil. I plan on a couple loads of horse manure in a few weeks. It's about 35' x 35' but I plan a U shaped walkway through the middle for easy access. I'm also planning out the chicken coop, and my neighbor is going halves on a couple pigs. I'm making a pen for them in the corner of the property. It's allot of work, but I'm really excited! I'm also working on an electrical system to get off the grid! ;)
great idea. i want to be able to let our chickens run around the garden area, but haven't gotten around to making a portable pen, yet...so i just "harvest" the poop.
I don't think you can do anything about the freezing. It actually ruptures the cell walls. I have heard that if your plant is shocked by something and starts to freak out, give it very little water, till it's almost dry, until it gets used to whatever it is. That might help, I don't know.
According to my materials handbook here, pure white paint (TiO2) and aluminum both reflect 95-98.5% of the visible spectrum and the same amount of infrared. Paint just diffuses it, which is good for plants.
I was curious as to what ya had going on back there when I watched Cheri's vid about Neeza's sweater =) Was gonna send a PM and ask about it. Appreciate ya sharing it. You reckon it's safe to start putting 'em in the ground? Man I need to get on the ball here...
when we think, create, connect ideas, image, plan, decide, and act as communities then real human economies based on one of the only renewable and sustainable energy sources available to us (human energy) and gain the sustainable relationships needed to enact means of support ...things really begin to change. i work for the c.i.a!
Is the fruit from dwarf trees edible? I remember my mom had some dwarf orange trees and you couldn't eat the oranges because they were too sour/bitter.
Those lights work .. had some plants near the fluorescent light over the sink .. they greened up and started growing toward it .. a shelf set up in a window , with some grow lights would work good, could even use mirrors to get more sun .
Fantastic you are growing things. May I suggest mulberries? They are almost impossible to kill and they start bearing young..on the other hand, kinda too sweet for my taste. Chestnuts are a fine food too.
Sorry about your tropical fruit plants. I know there are homeopathic preparations that are supposed to be able to help plants, but I don't know what they are.
On the road at the moment, but who knows what opportunities I may have soon. Wanting to garden so much, maybe I will be working in someone else's if I get the chance.
i'm stayin outta the dumpsters till this probation thing blows over. some businesses get funny about their trash...and we don't have enough space right now for our "roadside collection initiative."

fluorescents are great for cloning. if i had enough big ones, i'd grow with them...cause i don't think they get as hot as the HPSs.
thanks for the mirror suggestion. i have a book (by cervantes) that says white paint reflects more light than aluminum foil...

I wish I had some land! I'd love to have my own food.
Instead I've just made do with some foraging when I've been able.
givebirthathome 2 years ago
Might be able to grow a nice windowsill herb and tomato garden, although limited space does limit thee.
