@GOPFORCEDABORTIONS You've taken my commentary too far. I was/am simply saying that I am tired of Hollywood throwing full figured black women on the screen and flaunting them as a representation of all black women. I am happy to see them landing jobs, but I know that its not only because they're talented. It goes back to the slave days. the big matronly black woman was trusted with the children, to keep the home, and to prepare meals. That is all she was good for.
@TheLipzShow It's part of the Sapphire/mammie conspiracy. Yes, I hate it too, because full figured women have the biggest attitudes and most nastiest ways.
Well TheLipzShow, it's the same old stereotype we see all the time in hollywood. There once was a time in hollywood when black actresses were a little more respected. In the 70's, 80's and believe it or not, the 90's. But something happened, these past ten years. There has been a shift. Remember, this is America (Which can be very racist) and you are talking about hollywood which is ran by rich white guys, who like to see their white girls on top. So they are threaten by beautiful black girls.
I kinda get what you're saying and my only thing is that the actress's themselves really carried the roles well. Now my problem is that they would like to portray black women in stereotypical roles.I always notice that we as black women in film always have to be hard and tough coming to the white womans aid or defense like that ole slave mentality shit. But some of the films you mentioned I'm not quite sure about the movies you
I do agree that there is a trend with SOME of their roles. Yes, these actresses can be loud and boisterous, but they can also take on serious roles and perform well in same. Check Queen Latifah in Last Holiday, Life Support or Bees; Monique in Shadowboxer; Jill Scott in "No. 1". As for Jennifer, sweetie, its a musical!!! Yes, in Hollywood their is disparity among the quality roles, but there is also a lot of good. And if film is your thing, then YOU create roles that uplift ALL WOMEN.
i still don't understand how they are being used for laugh i guess im not seeing the point either...maybe they just like the actresses...i don't see how queen latifah and jennifer hudson exemplifies hollywood idolizing full figured black women when thats only two people when they also love people like halle berry, megan good.
WOW i think this video is pure hate...if u think that black full figured women are praised in hollywood then u must be living in a fantasy world becuase they have to work 10 times harder to keep jobs and to stay relevant. The amount of plus sized black women in the media is extremeley limited you can probably count them ALL on your fingers. If you compare them to all the other str8 sized entertainers we are not as nearly accepted or represented...my opinion
MEN WANT MEAT,DOGS LIKE BONES Im sick and tired of fat big girls and skinny girls calling themselves curvy! YOU ARE NOT CURVY! CURVY IS SPECIFIC! Small waist, big butt, wide hips, thighs, breasts is curvy! not a crackhead model or a skinny female flatter than a surfboard or a round ball with no waist! stop calling yourself curvy when ur body is nowhere near curvy! ur no marilyn monroe,Kim Kardashian, sarah lime, coco austin, vida guerra, renatta frisson, andressa soares, mayra veronica! STOP IT
The mammie image was concocted by white men to make white women feel less insecure, and white women have held insecurities since slavery, when their men were creepin' in the slave quarters. So, in seeing all the black women as "Mammie" characters, they could say to themselves, "what could he POSSIBLY see in her?"
It's like, an insecure female wanting to be seen with an unattractive friend, to make her look (and feel) prettier.
BBW in hollywood are not a threat to the petite/skinny women of other races: overly-sexual in a comedic sense, uneducated, funny, loud, always a single parent, & desperate for any man.
I saw "Haven" with the pretty Zoe Saldana. She ended up being passed around as a whore, while the white girl kept her viriginity & got rich at the end. It made me angry & sorry that I bought the video.
Not much has changed in the last 40 years. We must continue writing our own scripts in hollywood.
Because of the Aunt Jemima syndrome. Why do you think Oprah has survived in such a racist system for so long. It's really more of a freak sex fetish thing they have with that big fat black woman too. Plus, it's just non threatening because THAT woman just wants to "get along" for the most part and be accepted. It's all about control in the end.
Yes you're so right. I did a project in college on this along with other POPULAR negative images of black women in entertainment. a new good example of this is SHERRI SHEPPARD on the view!! Out of all of the intelligent, witty women that guest hosted on the view...this heffa gets the job?? she is a joke.

@GOPFORCEDABORTIONS I don't believe Halle should've won for that movie.
Jennifer Hudson needs to gain some weight back. She looks like a lollipop and is not attractive at all.

What's considered attractive has been changing for years...a long, long (very long) time ago, being fat was hot.
