I got flooded of the C and O canal in May. But I knew which way to walk and did not have to swim or lose my gear. I was hiking to the Appalachian Trail and I guess I was to slow. Camped at Mcmahones? campground on the detour, cost 20 and let the river go down. Then I roadwalked to Antitam group campground the next day. Cost $10 to camp at Antitam campground.
Where did you get on the towpath at? If you were on the towpath between Great Falls and Whites Ferry you would not have been so impressed. Also I noticed that you were praising the iron mountain campsite, But if you camped there you would hate the trains that go through there so early in the morning. Good luck
This time I saw almost Polish scenery for example that towpath along the bank but the river is different(is it a normal river level or after the flood?)This river is huge!I think it's called Ohio Canal, isn't it?Beautiful scenery ,nature of this National Historic Park!!!And wonderfull ur videos!!!
@Amnas2011 The river is the Potomac River and it is very high after the recent rain storm. I was glad to see the rain stop because I was afraid to camp right on the bank of the river! Thank you very much Annas2011

Hey Dave, here ya go, In 1824, the holdings of the Patowmack Company were ceded to the Chesapeake and Ohio Company. Benjamin Wright, formerly Chief Engineer of the Erie Canal, was named Chief Engineer of this new effort, and construction began with a groundbreaking ceremony on July 4, 1828 by President John Quincy Adams.

@Mainsworth1730 thanks so much for providing the info. I really need to take some time and research more of the history of the C&O. I have a life-long love of trees, shrubs, plants and animals. I think I own all the Peterson Field Guides. Thank you for the comment!
@mackeysman thanks mackeysman... YUP, that's the plan, I've been chatting with some folks on bikeforums(dot)net and I'm looking forward to the GAP, and from there i'm planning on taking the Panhandle Trail to Ohio. Thanks for watching!
