@100363Boil I listened to Money. The solo there has a total of two notes in it. I don't think that falls under ripping this song off. The two songs do sound alike though.
@bowser724 May I be more careful and just say that Money bares a striking resemblance to Love is the Law and the horn solo is ever so reminiscent of the riff that carries through Love ?
The The, Talk Talk, Martha & The Muffins, The Stranglers, Thomas Dolby,Missing persons (w/ Zappa veterans as rhythm section) Captain Sensible, Style Council, Ultravox, Peter Murphy,The Police, Joe Jackson, then you had retro w/the Smithereens,/Blasters. 70s had been very eclectic w/FM in it's infancy, then the 80s took the baton & ran with it. Lots of horns, lots of keyboards, anything went. Now, we get anything we want: as long as it's MTV certified Corporate Cool... Peace music fans!
I remember hearing this on the radio a couple of times back in the eighties.... It's a true lost gem! When they made thier debut, I heard this on KFMW 108 Cedar Rapids/ Waterloo remeber the dj said they were from Minneapolis.... must have been those horns that have always been kept some where in my mind for some odd reason......
I forgot how much I enjoyed their sound, particularly when cookie cutter crap dominated Twin Cities radio. Thank god for First Avenue, Y'all Come Back Saloon and the Red Carpet for my introduction to the Burbs. I was hoping they'd do a reunion tour and stop at the House of Blues in Orlando; unfortunately, I'm saddened to learn that Bruce Allen, the "floppy haired guitarist", as described by the StarTribune obits, passed away 12/09. Too damn young. RIP.

I always liked this band--I saw them every chance I could, up to and including their reunion show at the Basillica in 2003, but in hindsight I think I took them for granted. Now, looking back, it seems to me that these guys were among the very best bands of the entire new-wave movement of the early 1980s. There music really holds up well after all these years.
wow, this brings back so many amazing thoughts and feelings...what a beautiful song and production...still holds up and sounds fantastic...this song brought much joy and positive contemplation to my young being...i didn't know anything about bruce allen, but i am guessing he had alot to do with the band...thanx for being there then and now and beyond for me and many others suburbs...peace, jimmy finn of newport beach, california
OMG! I'm so saddened to hear of Bruce C. Allen's passing. On a good night, The Suburbs were the best Rock 'n' Roll band in the world. I'm grateful to see all these new vid postings!!!
We never even met you- but Bruce- you impacted more lives than you can understand. We LOVED Suburbs concerts more than you can know. We went to them almost as long as you did. Thank you. You gave more fun, happy memories than you can understand. God Bless. We sincerely hope you are being watched over and taken care of. We know you are. Take care- two of your fans. J&P. Rest in peace and may your family come to peace with your passing.
Thanks to Chan and friends for the beautiful version of this song at Bruce's memorial service! I have many great memories of Suburbs concerts. They were THE BEST live band I have ever seen! RIP Bruce.

Do you remember what they said? At the same show. We are at F____ State Fair!!!! Not First Avenue, not the 400, but the F____ State Fair. So suburbs. LOVE THEM for that.
Saw these guys at Hopkins High dance in 82' or 83' and The Replacements warmed up for them! The Burbs were one of the best bands to come out of Minneapolis!
Thanks for posting this great video, I havn't seen it in 24 years!!! Thanks for the great New Wave memories... I wonder if anyone has the "Music For Boys" video?
Some of the '80s best horn hooks in this song!
The Extended Dance Version of this song rocks too!!! :-)))))))))
From the liner notes: "The title 'Love Is The Law', in the opinion of The Suburbs, stands alone and has no connection whatsoever with Alistair Crawley" (sic)
@bowser724 Hey there! First of all, thanks so much for posting this as I am a huge Suburbs fan....Now, having said that, I feel like an absent-minded dumbass for having to ask you this next question, but it's irritating the hell out of me. I can't remember the name of this song by them and ti's one of my favorites. In the song he's practically speaking and he mentions Jesus a lot...."I was talking to Jesus the other day, etc..................." Do you know that one?
@31makimba it's from Credit in Heaven: "I was talking to Jesus the other day, told him I was a little bit worried. Said, 'Yeah, I've done some pretty bad things in my life, had a few drinks, told a few lies... he said, 'Listen, I'll take care of it."
@ReaktorLeak YES! Absolutely, thank you so much....That was bugging the ever loving shit out of me. I used to wear the shit out of that tune. Brilliant and classic! Thanks again!!!!
Yes, Minneapolis certainly was a hotbed in the early '80s: Husker Du, The Replacements, The Suburbs, The Suicide Commandos....and if you were into him, Prince. Even the uber-gimmicky '80s production can't sink this wonderful tune. Check out Chan Poling's current group The New Standards'. They are very cool---their unconventional jazz-trio covers of Roxy Music, Bowie, Mott The Hoople, The Replacements, etc. are great.
I saw them in Green Bay, WI. about a year after it was obvious they'd been passed over. They played brilliantly with all their hearts. So much garbage in music today and too few people know about The Suburbs.
This band is Spader times Spader on Bass time Spader on drums times Spader on Guiatrs times Spader on Vocals times Spader on Sax + Drugs + Money = Perfection!!!
I never knew this was the same band that sang, Music For Boys. I always liked this song and that one but never put it together. Now I have to look deeper into this group.
I cant believe the suburbs night time variety shows have been taken off....It was the best suburbs footage EVER!! and now its gone....IF ANYONE HAS IT PLEASE PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF GOOD MUSIC IM DESPERATE AND I NEED IT!!!
I was raised on the suburbs. They are the best.

There's a new group called The Drums who have a new song called "Money" which is a rip-off of this song. the horn riff used here is used as a solo.
