  • she looks like elliot from the movie E.T.

  • She has advanced ridiculously well since Aus Idol

  • She has a such a gentle voice. Amazing talent. Killers version still takes the cake though. Good to see real music!

  • Woah... she an awesome singer AND she kinda looks like Natalie Portman... hothothothothothothot

  • You know what I do when I like a video? Green up and favorite it. Who cares what the comments say. We know it's good. Doesn't need to be said brozillas. Peace.

  • All the negative comments seem to come from people who expect a four chord, simple cover with an obvious structure. She's doing something different. Don't be so afraid.

  • COVERCEPTION?

  • Nah, comparing her to Sarah Blasko, she loses.

  • Great Job, Lisa! You stayed true to the original but made it your own at the same time, not an an easy feat, Nice!!

  • coolio. A song is just a bunch of words – a blank canvas - where an artist then creates something unique.

  • I always love hearing soo very different versions of a song that I love. . .

  • @AuroraBlue76 mark knophler said this is the best "romeo & juliet" cover he's heard... what a rap

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...........

  • Comments on YouTube: Worst. Idea. Ever.

  • She is just the worst, there's no power behind her voice, flat and boring, airy and forgettable. Awful.

  • I love the origanial Of this hit from Dire Straits.

  • Wow, Amazing... superb talent....

  • @rhiannon650 is just a troll, doesnt actually contribute anything, just bags everything out - bit sad really

  • whats a melody?

  • there is a bizarre synching problem like someone forgot the XLR adaptor.

  • the song is moving when d.s rock it, but i mean it sounded tailored and knopflers voice cascaded around it, it was a complete gem, lisa captures the original emotion that knopfler would have approved of (citation needed) but she builds on what I originally though was complete and beautiful as it was, i remember years ago thinking to myself, this would be one song that i doubt i will hear a better version of and it now reflects my ignorance in thinking that. i love this version.

  • @ensile i knew she was special ever since i heard her rendition of drugstore cowboy on that t.v competition she was on, i couldn't wait to see what she would accomplish... i'm v.happy to hear her music.

  • As a huge DS fan I have to say, well fucking done. The killers one was good, but this one is just lovely.

  • wow cant believe the hate in sum comments this is gold and pure if u dont get it listen to it again then if u dont get it u never will

  • considering she only heard the song for the first time she did this cover a couple of days prior, its a pretty good effort

  • she looks a bit like an attractive owl, dont you think? more so at 0:41

  • @greenteajazztiger Gotta love your comment mate, attractive owl lmao.

  • so beautiful, hardly any makeup on.

  • I think why everyone is so mad is cos the original is effing unbelievable hence why people get annoyed when it gets covered "inferiorly". People don't get that like a version isnt a cover by a person in a cover band, or at the pub, but a legitimate artists interpretation of the song. i dont really think there are any "bad" like a versions, just different takes on the original.

  • Nice work triple J picking up this tallent

  • 3 minutes well spent!!!

  • Yeah, I remember hearing this on the radio, I was like

"Turn it up, love this song!"

    Then I said.

"How about we just have no radio for the next 3 min"

  • why is there no loop button?

  • why's everyone so mad?

  • lisa mitchell covering a cover? wtf how is she covering a cover, she is covering dire straits, like the killers... moron.

  • its alterrrrrrnative music breooooooo,

its so deep and intellectuealll broooo so hard corrrreee

fucken pathetic go smoke some pot hipsters

  • @alexvrynios are you trying to say only hipsters smoke pot

  • @uchihakioko I find it sad that many people wouldn't get this reference. I liked it :) haha

  • I'm going to marry Lisa Mitchell one day.

  • @gooch120 not before me!!!!

  • lovee !! <3

  • Sounds like every other chick with a guitar/piano these days. They all sound EXACTLY the same. Bring sexy back and get rid of this "quirky" bullshit. Way to fuck up a brilliant song :)

  • She can't stay in the rhythm...

  • Agh She's so cocky

  • wow marks knopflers not got a look in

  • Marry me.

  • @ sphinxart ..its just something they do on triple j...the artist play an original and a cover...she aint trying to make it her hit...

  • I don't think the first verse is meant to be sad

  • @sphinxart r u fucking serious?? its called LIKE A VERSION for fucks sake! there r so many reasons why this is cool.. it pays homage to the original, its a way of showing another interpretation of the music. it WAS great because they did it... and it still is fucking great , doesnt mean hearing an awsome artist do a version of an awesome song should irk you...

  • @sphinxart

If you had your way then we'd have no Hallelujah (Buckley), All Along The Watchtower (Hendrix), Hanging on the Telephone (Blondie), I Fought the Law (The Clash), Tainted Love (Soft Cell)...could go on.

I think you should rethink your position, buddy.

  • @sphinxart

Triple J; Like a Version. Research before you speak your mind...

  • @sphinxart joe cocker made little help from my friends his. Back to lisa I could listen to this on repeat

  • @sphinxart sounds like some one needs a hug

  • @rdjockey Hahaha thanks, hug accepted graciously. I really dig her music, honestly. I still stand by my comment though. She doesn't need to do covers, I wanna hear words from her own heart not a copy of someone elses ;-)

  • @sphinxart I hear you but I do like a good cover and I do enjoy spreading hugs on you tube as there is heaps of the opposite. Thanks for accepting my hug, don't forget to pass one on to someone else :)

  • @rdjockey Yeah there's a lot of angst on youtube, will definitely pass the hug on :-) have a cool week!

  • Coraggio...

  • soft and gentle like todays traces of yesterdays lover...

  • Heard this version on Triple J and my heart melted. So beautiful...

  • learn to study guitar first of all!!!!!!!! every one in this fucking world wanna be a musicians!!!!!

  • I like the bit at 3:08 when you hit the repeat button :D

  • She is so rubbish.........She is very unemotional.....she need waka-waka....

  • mala!

  • It sounds good but if i watch the video i get stressed out :P

  • the song is great, her voice is great, but my god this is the worst thing I have heard

  • not fuckin bad aye

  • porco dio, ma è una cagna spaventosa!

  • where the fuck is the melody of the song?

  • @rhiannon650 its an advanced technique to hear the melodic structure in this style of music, take the time and you will hear what we hear.

  • @sprocket2cog she is playing simple c, g, d chords.. poorly

how can you say its an advanced technique..

Joe satriani has advance technique -_-

  • @alexvrynios heh, look at what i was replying to ;) i was talking about the so called lack of timing.. think out side the box.. and yes i know the classical master.s. but you have to listen past what you know to hear what i hear.. you either get it .. or you dont... keep listening, i hope you hear what i hear one day ;) you cant teach it... you have to learn to hear.

  • @sprocket2cog i'm never going out of my way to listen to this "music"

its the trend that all the "cool" people are following now..

  • @rhiannon650 says the Rhiannon fan....

  • @rhiannon650 The original has just about as much of a melody as this version, the phrasing in the original is just less erratic, have you heard the song? :/

  • @rhiannon650 How can you not hear the melody?!

  • @rhiannon650 It's in there dude, just listen very carefully.

  • not too shabby; not my fave, but each to their own :)

my fave version of this is Mark Wilkinson's version - another Aussie, he's got a youtube channel with this video on it. If you get a chance, go check it out; i reckon it's better than the original, in my opinion :)

  • @dispatch1347

You have an App now for google chrome, and it's a loop button! Perfect (:

  • No doubt you're good and just like many talented musician who have done cover of old songs you have chosen to do the interpretation. But I prefer the original- it invokes so much more emotion.

  • @me12learnpolish mm and yet Mark Knopfler was so impressed by this version that he went to see her gig in London...

  • @WhiteyluvsHugh Wow !!! Good for her. But remember that there are two kind of people- some like to say what the other party want to hear while other choose to say what he want to. I don't know in which category the Geordie lad falls into..former or latter -Can you tell me ?

  • I thought it was illegal in all states to dislike lisa??

  • @rdjockey gay

  • @slutbucketism if I think lisa is great it's not gay,

maybe you have some unaddressed, repressed issues that you need

to acknowledge.?. or maybe you just need a hug ;)

  • @rdjockey very gay

  • She is to "cute" for me.

The song doesn't have any rythm, and the incredibly sweet as sugar and "cute" way of singing, makes this into somewhat of a parody for me. This interpretation doesn't float my boat. Having said that, I feel I need to defend myself and explain that I'm not a huge dire straits fan. I like the original.

    Cute girl though.

  • There's no beat... so annoying.

    But I guess it's cute...

  • she makes this song sound so pretty

  • lol just been watching frenzal vids.... lindseys getting soft in his old years hahaha

  • thats the best singing I have ever heard from a foetus.

  • Love her voice, though almost hate how she plays guitar :/

  • shes not that good live

  • Isn't it "both dirty, both MEAN"

    anyway, sound different, but cute

  • Her voice is beautiful and suits the song, however her bopping around as she sings is sooo distracting and rather annoying, in my opinion it takes away from her

  • @blahblahblah19933 Sorry but your name is my exact response to your comment.... blah blah blah.. lol But seriously don't ever say anything not 100% nice about Lisa Mitchell OK :) lol, she is a great singer but your kinda right about the head banging...

  • @sornsta you are totally contradicting yourself. first you say dont ever say anything 100% not nice about her yet you agree with me about the head banging and bopping around which is negative. and i did say she has a beautiful voice, because she does! my comment was hardly mean!

  • @blahblahblah19933 Chillax, take a lesson in humor... haha

  • klutzy. it's music, not a poetry jam.

  • very susan vegaish (not a put down)

  • 1:01 The moment the Doctor just realised he has had an eargasem

  • I love her version, and like her voice, but some of her guitar playing sounds a bit clumsy in spots (That said I can't fucking play at all, so she's miles better than me).

  • i think her style of playing the chords is way to dirtracting from the song although she has and an amazing voice

  • When i heard this on the JJJ's i loved it ...Sooo glad i found it on here Lisa is Sooo Talented...Absolutely Amazing !!!!

  • Just looking for any of her acoustic renditions.

    I like this one, too!

    Sending support from Melbourne, woohoo!

  • she needs to cough up some bloody flem. Sick of that deep throatie, mucus enveloped raspy voice that seems to be soo popular. Annoying

  • @nmlc525 phlegm* Don't listen if you don't like.

  • @nmlc525

It's actually not very phlegmy at all.

  • @nmlc525 deep? are you retarded i know what you mean about raspy voices becoming more popular of late but lisa mitchells voice is the opposite of deep

  • i love this version lisa!!

  • @scrappysamlam.

just thought that you should know that Dire Straights actually wrote the song. s: awks for you.

  • 56 people clearly studied Hamlet

  • her voice is absolutely magical.

  • Thre's too many negative things said about this video... everyone has a different opinion, but don't focus it on her.

It's her own style, which she does amazingly. Initially I wasn't a Lisa Mitchell fan, but after hearing this cover my opinion was changed.

Her voice quivers beautifully. It's amazing how little effort she seems so put into it and still sounds so passionate.

  • I really really hate Lisa Mitchell, but this is half changing my mind...

  • This song should be banned for covers! Don't touch this song!

  • this is shit - it's even more shit when she did it live at Woodford Folk Fest and fucked the lyrics up . . .

  • she doesn't do the guitar part justice.

  • I love this song. I'm so glad she chose to cover this one :)

  • @mintymurray1 that's the point of "Like A Version".

  • She's gorgeous!

  • absolutely beautiful, \lisa \i wish you all the best! xxx

  • absoluteyely beautiful! Lisa i wish you all the best xxx

  • One of my all time favourite songs... You're cover is really special, thanks for sharing it with us, Lisa...beautiful soul...

  • @MsJehosaphat A pillow with bricks in it? Personally, I like it, but I'm an idiot.

  • Weird that her voice changed so much from Idol to this. She sounded like a Missy Higgins impersonator initially, now she sounds American lol

  • @ProtestTh3Hero i can assure you she doesn't sound anything like an american. i saw her a few days ago at a small pub gig, and she sounded completely australian

  • @eliahthekid I meant she sung with an american accent now, on Idol her Australian accent was really strong when she was singing but it doesn't seem to be there anymore. I'm sure she still talks like an Aussie.

  • @ProtestTh3Hero yeah i know what you mean, and that's weird because she is very deeply involved in the roots/folk kind of scene, hanging out with very australian artists :S

  • she has a nice voice

  • good cover but she has a mean nose whistle haha

  • took me awhile to warm up to this cover, but now I think it is great.

  • :O Her voice is so irritating!

  • Comment removed

  • sarah blasko wanna be

  • Quite horrible cover.

  • her voice is beautiful, but her guitar wrecks it. she's strumming it all over the place.

  • she covers this with an interesting twist, but wheres the passion and fire?

  • I love this song....and i want to hold my sweety while dancing to this song..xxxoo

  • @TheMrMatari awww i love you...

  • Not a bad cover, she's an interesting singer but she approaches the song with too much timidity and her voice quavers too much.

  • @MrMViceroy The reason she has such an interesting voice is because she quavers a lot. That's part of her style.

  • daim i love this cover

  • I dont like this version, but she sings nice

  • best cover so far :D

  • This is awesome...so much emotion

The funny thing about lisa mitchell is HWO DOES SHE GET SO MUCH VOICE OUT WITHOUT HARDLY OPENING HER MOUTH!!!!

  • love

  • Great Interpretation!! Great Job, Lisa!!

  • Sorry to her fans, but I think this cover is terrible.

  • @bopbopanna Sorry to you, bu I think YOU are terrible.

  • @unkiemonk Hahahaaaaa. I am and proud of it, but I'm also honest. This cover borders on blasphemy.

  • thank fuck she finally got the lyrics right - seen her 4 times play this live and she always forgets the line "when we make love, you used to cry"

  • @arcticfan88 who cares..

  • Stunning vioce, just stunning.

  • youtube should have a loop button so I don't have to keep clicking replay.

  • @dispatch1347 what a beautiful comment. Five hundred thumbs up to you

  • @dispatch1347 I'm sure everyone has already told you but just in case. Type "replay" in front of youtube in the url. this will take you to a page that auto loops youtube videos. very handy.

  • @dispatch1347 it does. type repeat before youtube so its "repeatyoutube"

  • @dispatch1347 What a GREAT idea!

    How 'bout it YOU TUBE?

  • Lovely!!

  • not going to lie... prob one of the best covers that i have heard of this song...keep on rocking the dream lisa. pure angelic.

  • If i could give one year of my life to that girl i would.....i am a Dire Straits fan but she almost made me cry...by the way i am a guy!!!!!

  • i am not an emotional guy but that song made me cry for no reason.....Loved It!

  • @bobixi fag

  • loveeee it

  • i was just reading what that person wrote about comments and i had to laugh. it's so true, but the sad thing is that people are continually falling for 'chains of silver' and 'chains of gold'. i think she has a really nice voice, it's very soothing i find.

  • Have to totally support 3nigmatiq's comment; probably one of the sanest things I've heard. People do become zealot's of their chosen music but it does not mean there is no value in music you don't like. I have thousdans of CDs and albums that range acroos all sorts of genres and seriously dislike a great deal of music but I do not ever think that gives me ther right to demean people for their choices.

It's no different to denigrating some-one for the colour of their skin or their sexuality

  • "Lisa Mitchell covers The Killers' cover of Dire Straits' "Romeo and Juliet" "...huh?? The Killers didnt change the song at all so how can this be a cover of their version? thats just stupid.

  • She's so cute!!

  • this is such an amazing cover

  • she is so awsome !!!!!!

  • indigo girls?

    indigo girls.

  • this chick has an epic voice, good cover

  • different i like it original

  • 32 dislikes?! Hit the wrong button.
