  • I used to work there at times as an MP guarding General Powell. Back in 1986. Brings back some memories.

  • Thank you for posting. I was billeted in Gibbs back in the 60's. Did you say (print) that you have some footage or video of that place. I would love immensely if you would post it here or on your channel. Thanks very much.

  • This is an awesome video. It's great to see that it is being used by Goethe U. I graduated from Frankfurt American High School in 1988, on our third time in Germany. Our first trip to Germany was in 1970-71. The bombing that changed all of the security for American offices in Frankfurt happened about four months after we left, in early 1972. The Colonel that the RAF killed had been my dad's boss. Also, I briefly ran the post-Rotunda cafeteria in the Abrahms building in 1989.

  • And once again; thank you for your work to bring old this to fruich. I was there from 1981-1983 and we tore Sachsenhousen apart with a band " The Hostages". Long save the qween, we mean it man !!!!! !! Bless my unforgoten friends ">!!!!! !!

  • Thank You, 1981-83; in the com Sec Tower to the L "facing forward" . Which i had a band in Frankfort, THE HOSTAGES !! Love is all you need ................

  • Recht herzlichen Dank fuer the trip down memory lane. I made quite a few trips, from 70 to 79, into that bldg visiting various offices and I was a member of the Paternoster frequent stepper club, lol. I also was there on 1 June 76, when the bomb went off outside of the APO on the 1st floor. I remember seeing a good sized hole in the brass looking elevator door & walking past a lot of blown out windows. I wonder if anybody else remembers that or if there is a record of that bombing?

  • I was there in from 88-90 in the S4 down in basement. The Battalion HQ sure looks a little empty there.

The O club sure has changed. Never even knew there was a roof top to go out on.

  • I was an MP stationed there from March 1992-Aug 1994. As an MP I used to have to walk those dark hallways on the top floor where the ceilings were very low and it was pretty freaky up there. Wow, the memories of that place gives me chills watching this video.

  • Oh the bells!

  • Thank you for showing us this. I was in the 109th MP's from 1978-1980. I spent alot of time in that building.

  • "You never step into the same river twice"

    Glad you liked this.

Are you sure about the U-Bahn stop? It must be something else. The U-Bahn in Frankfurt was inaugurated in 1968.

  • There are so many half-truths and rumors about the IG Farben Hochaus, many based - or partly based - on truth. For example, one story claims that the Farben Directors had a tunnel dug from the building all the way to the Hauptbanhof at the base of Kaiserstrasse. Such a tunnel never existed, but there *was* an underground tunnel to a heating plant behind the building which had large water pipes circulating hot water to heat the building. Maybe this U-Bahn story is based on this tunnel.

  • Thanks very much for this posting. I was stationed in Frankfurt 82-87 and spent most of my time at the Abrams Complex. I lived in Kennedy Kaserne and Gibbs Kaserne until 1984. I loved Frankfurt, I came of age there and will never forget my time spent there. Thanks for the memories and I hope to visit again one day.

  • Thanks for posting this. I was an MP from '82 to '85. Just before I got there, the Red Army Faction had killed somebody with a bomb they planted in the Officers' Club. While I was in Frankfurt, the RAF blew up a part of the PX (hours after I had been shopping there) and the airport. I would work 14 hours a day guarding that building, sometimes for 30 days straight. Thanks for bringing me back to some very memorable times. FYI, you live in a beautiful country.

  • Thanks very much for posting this. I was an MP from '82 - '85. I arrived right after the Red Army Faction set off a bomb in the Officers' Club. While I was there, they detonated bombs at the PX and the airport. I spent 14 hours a day guarding that complex, sometimes 30 days straight. Thanks again for taking me back to some very interesting times.

  • It's very nice as a campus. I've held some lectures there and must say it kind of feels as though it has always been a university building.

  • Frankfurt was home for 2-1/2 years. Most of the places I knew that were Army related are gone or drastically changed, including where I used to live at Gibbs Kaserne. Just sentmental I guess.. Thanks again for taking time to record the video.

  • Most of the casernes and housing areas have been closed and converted. I have some footage of Gibbs Caserne too - somewhere. The US Army has been pulling out of Germany for the last 20 years, what will stay are the facilities at Rammstein and Kaiserslautern.

And Frankfurt has changed a lot too!

  • I was an MP in the building from '74 to '76. Thanks for the nice but depressing video.

  • Why depressing?

  • @billh521 I was there at the same time. As I was a photographer on the 8th floor I always had a camera bag. My wife worked on the 8th floor in the telephone exchange. Her purse was always checked by the MPs but my camera bag was never checked. We always thought that was strange, We used to love to ride the paternoster over the top or under the bottom. It was a very private 30 seconds ;)

  • While in the U.S. Army and stationed in Frankfurt 1977-1979, I worked in the Abrams Building (formerly the I.G. Farben Hochhaus). Many fond memories of that beautiful, historic building (and the rest of the compound) which I'll always remember. Thanks, xmaldoror!

  • Glad you liked it.

  • I just noticed that this is part 2. This always happens! I only saw this last one pop up.

  • Lovely building!

  • agree...best possible use of building given the history.
