  • My daughter asked that I dedicate a song to her at her wedding reception. In front of the wedding party, she spoke into the microphone and said, "Now, Dad and I are going to dance to a song that expresses how he feels about me". No song could have been more perfect for her from me. As we danced to Potrait of My Love I was overcome with emotion. This has to be one of the highlights of my life.

  • Sigh... Gorgeous!

  • Composer's name is Cyril Ornadel, not Orander.

  • This is definitely NOT the original version,Matt Monro's version definitely IS the

original. This is a decent cover,But Matt has the warmer tone and would have had

the hit version in the U.S.A. but was almost unknown when his version was

    released there.

  • I must say I loved how he sang a lot of my favorite songs. He was a regular on Carol Burnette singing.

  • One of the very best love songs ever!!!

  • I LOVE Steve. There is such warmth and power in his voice. People tell me I sound like him when I sing--I am completely honored and flattered as you can well imagine. I love Steve and Edie--they are American institutions, great artists and good people. God Bless Them Both!!

  • Steve Lawrence is one of the best singer before and after.

  • Is Steve Lawrence still active? :D

  • @ragemanchoo82 Yes. He is now 76.

  • @catman916 So he was 25 or 26 when he recorded this? I wish they still built voices like this!

  • I just love Steve Lawrence. I saw him in person at the then "Garden State Arts Center" in NJ. Wow did I fall in love with his voice. He is so smooth and sings every song effortlessly. I sent him an email with the hopes he will come to Wichita, KS some day to perform.

  • @jg048 they call it the PNC bank arts center in recent years glen cambell recorded a 2 record set there so did the 4 seasons

  • Fablous a great blast from the past

    Thanks Sessanzx for sharing

  • Once again I am pulled back in to this most beautiful song. And Steve's song styling which is the best and never to be outdated.

  • It's ok catman916 for those songs I've requested... Steve was one of the popular singers in the Philippines years back... Portrait of My Love was recorded by Steve in late 1960 and it reach the top 10 in the U. S. Chart the following year. His was the one so popular in the Philippines. The great Briton Mat Munro become so popular in the Philippines around 1963 with a rush of hits in 45s like Walk Away, etc etc etc. Up to now he is unforgotten by the Filipinos.

  • Yes Steve Lawrence was the FIRST one to sing Portrait of My Love. Matt Munro covered it later. Can you post Steve's "Oh How You Lied" and "While There's Still Time"?

  • @carlos071852 I'm sorry that I do not have these. According to Wikipedia "Portrait of My Love" was recorded by Matt Monroe in 1960 the year in which it was written.

  • @carlos071852 Matt was the first in 1960 it was written by Cyril Ornadel- all others followed - Steve Lawrence in 1961 in USA.

  • Folks play stereo every morning these songs. Wake up pleasant. grew up with old songs- love 'em.

  • i love this guy..his voice is slightly similar to that of Andy Williams.

  • Yes, Matt Monro did an excellent version of this song, but Steve Lawrence was the original singer, and had the original hit in 1961. So I think this is Steve's song.

  • @BobbytheBeast444 Actually Matt Monroe recorded it first in 1960. It was a big hit in the UK.

  • @catman916 I didn't know Matt Munro was around that early. I guess it doesn't make much difference who did it first. It's a great song and both did it justice. Actually I like the Matt Munro arrangement better. That's the arrangement I used in my versions on You Tube (search You Tube for "Portait of My Love (for Janet from Bobby)" and Nancy Pelosi, A Portrait of My Love". Sorry, I'm no Matt Munro or Steve Lawrence.

  • I'LL BE SINGING THIS TOMORROW NIGHT IN MY ACT-ONE OF THE BEST.BOBBY DOOWOP

  • No one can sing this like Steve Lawrence. What a great arrangement as well

  • Steve Lawrence sang this a few years ago on the Jerry Lewis telethon; he sounded better than he did back when this was made. Truly a work of art.

  • the old songs are the best songs.....

im 28 but i appreciate these songs

  • you are absolutely right catman916 I appologize for my statement DA!!

  • @hucknew No need to apologize

  • One of my early favorites ... still is. Thank you for sharing this great song.

  • We can all thank THE LATE & GREAT DEAN MARTEN for there first apparence on TV!!!!! DA

  • @hucknew Actually they first appeared in the 1950s on the original The Tonight Show, then hosted by Steve Allen.

  • He does have an incredible voice ... great memorable song.

  • Once again I find myself returning to this video to hear a calming, fulfilling work of beauty and thereby return to my better self. Thank you forever Steve, God be with you always!

  • such a beautiful voice!

  • My great uncle(s) love to sing this song. I really love the song. It's nice to listen to a music like this.

  • Matt Munro was fantastic, and his "Portrait" was lovely. But this is impeccable. Steve's diction is flawless. And the arrangement is much better. Thanks,

    Tchaikovsky, too.

  • @tonywsmith2 Agree. I love Matt Munro but Steve has the edge here.

  • @tonywsmith2 They are both excellent--room for both. I like Steve's just a tad more as his warmth is embossed in every word.

  • Beautiful lyrics interpreted by a golden voice...this is a terrific combination. Steve Lawrence really belongs to a group of singers like Sinatra, Matt Monro and Andy Williams.

  • I absolutly LOVE this song, and of all the versions I've heard,, Steve does it Best! Thanks ever so much for posting this!
