  • When these clips are at 80 mph they sinc up just great with German DanceTechno dance tunes from Shoutcast.

  • It just shows that the past technology is better than the crop that is craped out today !!!! look at the diesels it is dragging what an awesome statement !!!!!!!!

  • It just shows that the past technology is better than the crop that is craped out today !!!!

  • Note the DDA40X as 'backup'...

    Another timeless UP classic.

  • in my opinion, the most beautiful American steam loco ever made

  • i must comend you on your ability to stay with it i drive that road (HWY 85) every day and never seem to get this kind of luck Great video

  • Enfia a buzina do trem no cú deste maquinista!!!! Buzinaço do caralho!

  • nice video skip I can't wait till #844 come to Idaho

  • there is nothing like a steam loco,be it 19th or 20th century.

  • a good song would be on the road again by willie

  • So Skip why is this engine burning clean ? i mean there is very little black smoke out the stack, i noticed that from the first start up. its a beautiful sound guess i was born too late . I could listen to the music it makes forever.

  • its not metalica, but is is metalic heavy metal thunder, when running at speed

  • @ford427mustang A clean stack is a GOOD thing.

  • @ford427mustang

Warm weather conditions do NOT cause instant condensation of the exhaust steam. Other than that, the warm fire box is getting a sweet burn = no soot to speak of.

  • @ford427mustang it burns oil not coal

  • all this time and still amazing

  • Oh my, PRETTY-PRETTY. What a hoot: driver rotation and shutter speed such that the driver "cutouts" appear not to move!

  • ok so I guess that those 2 long and 1 short blast was for a crossing? Almsot like "MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE AAAAAAAAA..... WAY"

  • Actually it's two longs, one short and one long.

  • Diesels probably there for safety and in case Locomotive breaks down. In Britain they sometimeshave a diesel loco attached at rear of train for airbrakes and in case of problems, although some British locos now have Air brake pumps fitted

  • Wow all that power. How about putting some apropiate music to this video i e Box Car Willie Or good Morning America

  • it makes its own music at 70 mph like a heavy metal thunder

  • Better yet put COMING UNDONE by KORN.

  • All your videos are fantastic but this is one of my favorites.

  • At full gait, a telephone pole every 2 seconds

  • What is her speed awesome

  • This is a great vid!

  • very good good driving i love it thx to bad for red lights but it was wondrful thx man

  • best ever thx man

  • nice... nice.... very good

  • This is a great film! Thanks for psiting. This locomotive is like live, and her whistles are beautifull. Those locomotives should live!

    Best regards.

  • yep, that good ol' 6-chime whistle.

  • @lockgnarvangoogen The whistle 844 is carrying is a Hancock 3 chime....she's never worn a 6 chime.

  • Down with Diesels, and by the way, is this the run they filmed Extreme Trains on? Plus, I have proof that steam is better than diesels, White Pass #'s 69 and 73 can pull 5 cars up the mountain to Frasier with no assistance, but it takes 3 6 axel diesels to make the same run with 7 cars. I don't live anywhere near Alaska, but I have seen pictures and videos. #73 has pulled 10 cars up the hill before, I do believe.

  • this whole puting diesels and steam together makes me mad! that degrades steam. i know its for the brakes and things. but when these things were running in the 1800 through 1940's they had no diesels. and we were doing better then ever. we didnt need those dm brakes. and we didnt need the el.

  • that diesel is a very special, look carefully!

  • i know its 98ft long and so long that they put a doorway into the middle..but still..

  • Man I wish that thing was working the year I went on that trip. Of course then the train in front of us derailed on the way back and we were stuck for eight hours.

Do the big wheels with the rail connecting them have something to counterbalance the weight from the rail?

  • Long live the Steam Engines! DOWN with the diesels!

  • Is that train even running? Looks like its just being pushed by the diesel.

  • That steam engine could pull more cars by it self then what 2 diesels could pull together. So you think it is being pushed. I think the diesel needs to be pulled if you really need to know.

  • UP 6936 was in consist only to assist when necessary, which was in maintaining track speed on sustained grades. The rest of the time it was along for the ride. UP 844 can pull a 23-car train on relatively flat terrain at 80 mph with no problem (and has done so many times).

  • Of course it's running.
