I was surprised to see such a significant change in personnel in the trumpet section after the band had been so settled for so long. What caused the departure of the three guys, Earl, Joe Mosello and Glenn Drewes?
I agree, bring back Earl. Besides Snooky and Porcino, I think he was the best lead player the band has ever had. I never liked the way the modern band plays cherry juice though. I feel it's just too fast to sink in. The new life recording is great. But the "Naturally" and "Definitave Thad Jones" are just a fury.
I agree about this version being to fast, I heard the new life version and I thought it the best tune ever, and the shout section was just the tits. At this speed it all just flies by.
Best thing going on the east coast. Great section work by the trumpets - Nick Marchione (lead trumpet) is a *monsterous* player. Beautiful - tasty, always 'in tune', big fat juicy lead sound. Incredible.
o and i get to see them free whenever i want :D
