Great video. A discussion in The Game Show Forum says a tv network in France is getting to revive The Money Maze. When asked for a comment, the original producer, Ron Greenberg, jokingly said the idea of reviving the Maze was nice - after 35 years of waiting. I liked Nick Clooney, but he was a bit off base inserting himself into the Jack Abramoff scandal. He could have stuck up for George's right to make jokes without going off on his own political tangent.
Loved this game show. I was lucky to see that shiw @ the deadly 3:00 CST time slot. Some ABC affiliates didn't have it (WFAA-8; Dallas) while some did (KTRK-13; Houston),
As Vicki Lawrence would call it, The Monkey Maze! (LOL)
Four oclock in the morning my arab roomate left his middle east channel on. They had an old ass ABC Sadat biography on from mid 70s translated to arabic. When show was ending they said " next week all new show the money maze at 2:30 est".....haha like it was still the 70s. So i had to look it up. Random i know.
Out of pure curiosity (coupled with bad weather boredom on a Sunday) I did some hunting around and found there are assorted short clips of The Money Maze out there, but the challenge is getting in touch with the owners of these clips. All of them are on ancient equipment (read - AMPEX) so a lot of conversion would have to be done. Remember, most of this type of equipment outputs on 300 ohm twin lead! It's that ancient!
@devares2006 I've posted about this - there are actually a number of short clips out there, but you're at the mercy of trying to get them from their owners. There used to be some "game show exchange" areas before GSN became popular, but they have pretty much dried up. A few people with pre-VHS era tape machines have clips, and will only be able to recover them if their equipment is still working. I know one person, but he won't part with his clips.
@devares2006 And the one more episode is on file at The Paley Center for Media (Formerly The Museum of TV and Radio) both here in Beverly Hills and in New York City.
Uh, three more partial episodes were found in 2008, I believe dug up in someone's home that had an early monster-sized VCR (back when the cartridges were by AMPEX or something like that). The only reason I know this is because I know the person who found them. When I watched the tape I remembered this show. And that famous line "Let's go to the maze!"
The person is about 1500 miles away from me and is very reclusive. He has a lot of vintage video clips that I suspect are one-of-a-kind. Original Carson, many live TV performances, etc. That said, good luck getting them out of him. I remember the AMPEX unit - it was a reel-to-reel unit that used tape like a movie rather than the cassette cartridge you and I know. It was also black and white. Sorry.
Amazing how much Nick Clooney and George Clooney look alike !

Is Nick Clooney related with long-time "ER" actor George Clooney??
CraigFoye80 1 year ago
@CraigFoye80 Nick is George's dad. Rosemary was George's Aunt (most people know that by now, surprised you didn't).

@CraigFoye80 Father = Nick, son = George

1:14 and the very beginning were the pieces of music used while the people were running through that maze, I believe...

@QBCNetwork That would make it 4:00PM in New York. After this show, WABC, Channel 7, would air "The 4:30 Movie."

I'd like to see an episode and hear Alan Kalter announcing in one of his first gigs long before The Late Show.

@tritonrocks Can't say I blame him. It was a good show in a bad time slot.

Also, The Paley Center (formerly The Museum of TV and Radio) has an episode on file. Also the pilot is out on the game show trading circuit.

Alan Kaltar: "There's $10,000 at stake everytime our audience shouts...."
Audience: "5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Go!"
Alan Kalter "Welcome to The Money Maze! And here's the master of the maze, Nick Clooney!!!!"
Stratman78 2 years ago
Factoid: A young "Big Red" Alan Kalter was the show's announcer during its run. Chet Gould announced the pilot episode.

He reported the news here for a time in 1993 and 94 on WGRZ, co-anchored with Laurie Lusowski.
However, he'll most likely be remembered as being George Clooney's dad.
StukInBuf 2 years ago 2
Not only that, he did local news for a long time in Cincinnati (on both WCPO and WKRC), as well as being a co-host on AMC (before it went downhill).
gshowguy 2 years ago
@gshowguy And he also did the news here in Los Angeles on KNBC 4 in mid-80's.

@StukInBuf
not to us from CIncinnati. WE think of George as Nick's son.

Nice vid, by the way :).
