Huckabee, realizing that his super soft record on illegal immigration was going to ruin his presidential aspirations, has just come out with a new "get tough" immigration enforcement plan - which gives all illegals 120 days to register and leave the country or face a 10 year ban on entering the U.S.
The question is - will those who register and leave be able to (almost immediately) return to the U.S. legally? If so - this is nothing more than the Kennedy-McCain plan in new dress.
More importantly, it is very unwise to elect an ordained minister as POTUS. Huckabee's motives would always be suspect and the obstructionists in Congress would have a field day. Remember that Thomas Jefferson's words about separation of church & state had to do with his irritation with the struggle for power between the various Christian denominations.
Huckabee talks very openly on the Arkansas issues. I appreciate his willingness to look at the state's issues (ie. Arkansas need for road improvement - which anyone who's been to Arkansas knows well) as opposed to just following a parties' ideologies that don't benefit his voters. Reagan II won't work here. It's a different world than existed when he was president and asking, "What would Reagan do" won't suffice. We need a president who can look at the current scenario and judge accordingly.
We need a president who will remain consistent with conservative values. Huckabee is no conservative. He is a nanny-stater on health; he is liberal on illegal immigration. President Bush is a "good guy," but he isn't conservative either. Mike Huckabee would simply give us more government.
