  • pretty powerful stuff for the 70s. Well spoken Marlon Brando, we need more like you in this world.

  • dude his voice doesnt fit his face its crazy, the godfather was amazing

  • I wish this man had the chance to beat the shit out of john waynes racist bitch ass.

  • wow...didn't know he was so socially aware

  • I'd rather listen to Brando than the self-aggrandizing behavior of Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Madonna. Ever heard Brando's views about the white man and white supremacy?? Ever knew that Brando and James Baldwin were friends? Watch the old documentary "RAONI" about the destruction of the indigenous tribes in Brazil. BRANDO drew attention to that AND to Raoni, who began the movement to protect the land of the native Indigenous population in Brazil.

  • 5:59 " . . . people in the public eye are sellable commodities. But they're not any different than Kleenex or Dial soap or anything else."

    Marxist.

  • What Brando is describing is demonization of peoples; something that's always done to take advantage of them. If a given group is characterized as somehow less than human, then the dominant population will be that much more ready to go along with whatever form of exploitation is visited upon them. Today one group that's being demonized is illegal immigrants, to the delight of whites who are being economically disenfranchised by the power structure. The real demons inhabit the power structure.

  • wat does "dounos" mean? i.e "sea of dounos"

  • @Anarchyuk1 dullness

  • Wow... Marlon Brando actually thinks before he gives an aswer. Too bad that now everyone is in such a hurry that more people don't think before they give answers...... I'm going to start doing that.

  • Brando punched a paparazzi guy in the face this very same day of this interview

  • not even a big american star like brando can open america's eyes the natives struggles, celebrities always helping out ppl. in africa and other continents but what about natives here in america!

  • It's sad to think that all the problems he was fighting 40 years ago are still prevalent today

  • [iminent led]GREATEST FUCKING ACTOR EVER!!!![/led]

  • Brando should be respected for his position and attitude towards Hollywood the main function of which has never been to entertain, it has "always" been a tool of the Global Elite with its purpose being to indoctrinate and condition the masses so that we are more easily controlled. Brando had always known this and used to treat Hollywood with the contempt that it deserved when he was alive. Even the name "Holly" "Wood" has an occult meaning that no one has ever bothered to explore. Check it out.

  • i have the utmost respect for this man. marlon brando used his celebrity and social standing to stand in opposition to social and political racism. Beautiful, creative and sensitive spirit. much respect mr. Marlon

  • All I can say is flipping WOW! This man is the complete opposite of bullshit! Which is most of TV crap!

  • Brando is so high.

  • eai padrinhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • regardless of how much they want to dissect it here, the motive, significance, the reaction and response, having a native american go onstage in your place to accept one of the most 'prestigious' awards in entertainment was one hell of a stunt in 1973.

  • Now I know how he was such a great actor, he's got a great spirit.

  • marlon apparently had huge balls

  • @thedeafparrot I didn't mean it in a bad sence. He was a true fighter for underdogs. But one would have to admit that his family and personal life weren't the happiest.

  • THE GODFATHER is my favourite gangster movie of all time......... BUT BRANDO IN REAL LIFE IS FUCKED IN THE HEAD LOL..... but i think hes been snorting sum good columbain shit......... OR MAYBE HITTIN SUM SERIOUS ACID...... we are talking 1973

  • It is so great to hear the truth about the impact in the film industry on the image of American Indians

  • A great actor on stage and screen, but in real life a complete whacko!!

  • wow he looks good for 48

  • 04:26 Brando got a crib sheet !!

  • @legendarnyziomal Joking, right?! He was mocking Cavette. It was a joke. There's nothing in his hand.

  • @cellardoor199991 Hahah right. I wasn't joking but now I realised irony heh.

  • i don't understand where the "dislikes" come from. if you have nothing nice to say, why say it. what is wrong about what happened in this interview? what is not to like? I want those who dislike it to speak their mind

  • Didn't stop him from making Italians look ugly, nasty, vicious and violent in the godfather.

  • @mrprufrock101 thats because the mob is true le cosa nostra or this thing of ours whatever you want to call it..indians werent murderers like hollywood always make them out to be..

  • This guy is fucking smart...but goddamn, he speaks too quiet. I have both volumes on my laptop up on the way, and still need to lean in.

  • The most honest interview I've heard. Cavet looks so uncomfortable. He took a big chance having Mr. Brando on and I respect him for it. / I feel sorry for these ultra celebrities of today whose lives the public think they own and I almost hate the people that make a living plaguing them. It's like they don't have any rights at all. David Duchovny said people want fame but haven't a clue what really happens when they get it and wouldn't have wanted it had they known. Something like that.

  • Don Vito Corleone

  • He looks like Gary Barlow out of Take That

  • What a man.

  • The media will give the largest platform to whatever has the most mass appeal not to what is enlightening. It's a shame because there's intelligent black comedians who won't try to evolve the dialogue on racism past mindless stereotypes because it isn't commercially viable. I think that's a reflection on the intellectual culture in America not some racial bias in the media...unless you're talking about fox news.

  • he reminds me of Yoko Ono

  • The Don! I'm a big Brando fan, but I only learned about his protest this morning. It's great to see such a well know person going against the grain & speaking up in front of his peers about the missrepresentation of 'ethnic minorities', probably at the expence of his own career & reputation. The Don indeed!

  • @brazil70 to Brazil...Agreed with your comments. that's why he decided to go and live in Tahiti. There was a lot to Brando that the public never saw, I believe a tortured soul...

  • gotta love the sarcasm

  • Thanks for posting.

  • 'I make you an offer you can't refuse' - Marlon Brando

  • A lovely MAN...... man make itth wow deep no a good man!

  • On June 12, 1973, Brando broke paparazzo Ron Galella's jaw followinga taping of The Dick Cavett Show in New York City...

  • This guy is never out of character, I don't care what anyone says...He's way too cool to be real

  • @inbetweentics Boring ? He was one of the most interesting and Intelligent people out there unlike these days clowns which you might think non-boring and cool. Come back when you're mature and you will appreciate this interview in all of its 6 parts and you leave a positive comment just like many did here.

  • fuck hes boring

  • @matchbox555 Boring ? He was one of the most interesting and Intelligent people out there unlike these days clowns which you might think non-boring and cool. Come back when you're mature and you will appreciate this interview in all of its 6 parts and you leave a positive comment just like many did here.

  • @randomvidz94 lol just cos someone thinks something that happenes to be old is boring does not man they automatially must think all modern stuff is amazing. he just said he thouht one indidual gave a boring interview, stop dragging your own chauvinism into it

  • those native American's never attacked anyone.. didn't ya know that?... never warred against each other... Want to enjoy the benefits of modern technology? you can't have it both ways...

  • Comment removed

  • @scholte what you're talking about ?

  • Comment removed

  • @scholte yep!

  • the audience are just as obnoxious as the interviewer. empty laughter in the face of emotional depth.

  • Love it how Brando puts Cavett to the wall for his interview style.

  • The host seems like a incompetent asshole, not grasping marlin brandos deep mind, no personal opinion at all its all televison enterainment and business... dosent realize we are human beings!

  • Why the FUCK do I have to read about Beiber on a Brando video!!! You people are obsessed. ENOUGH ALREADY

  • It's cool how the guy I remember as the "Godfather" wears a denim jacket.

  • i watch brando and i think, johnny depp tries to mimick brando. depp isnt one MILLIONTH the man brando was and NEVER WILL BE. depp couldnt wipe brando's ass. he's a total loser. brando was total man, total actor.

  • @nickjames46

lol I totally agree with you. You hit the nail on the head ! Johnny Depp is at best a B grade actor Its obvious in his interviews that he is trying to be someone he isn't I always wondered who he is trying to be ...and your right! He tries to act like hes Brando ! (hes probably hoping anyone that knew who Brando was , is dead by now ! )

  • i love marlon , he knows very well the interviewers are mostly bullshitters. they get the next hot start on the show to promote their upcoming movie or w.e it is. and brando just aint about that. he signed up to entertain with his ACTING not with his PERSONAL LIFE. ppl are soo dam nosey that they rather hear how many times brando farts in a day than to hear to substancial things like what the govt is doing. and when u have someone who resuses to talk about PERSON things he is called arrogant??

  • I like what he says about blacks... yeah, they sure are thought of much higher today with their foul, drug/sex/money/ego driven violent gangsta rap, lying corrupt leaders like Obama, and Jackson... yeah, Marlon, blacks have come a long way!

  • @infodisinfo Keep in mind that every "negative" connatation of the black community that you have mentioned is media created.....I am black and yes we have some serious problems, but the media magnifies these things for ratings at the sacrifice of our dignity.

  • @MIKESOWELL Having worked in the media I can both agree and disagree with your statement. The entertainment factor, for lack of a better word, like RAP is very much driven by media groups like Viacom/MTV. But, the news media actually surpreses negative news on blacks, hispanics, gays and other groups.

What we need is to stop seeing our selfs as groups, but rather one common people while respecting our cultural differences.

  • @infodisinfo That's EXACTLY what I think....

  • @MIKESOWELL Oh yeah it's all the media's fault. Been to WorldStarHipHop lately? Do we blame the media for that? Maybe we can ruin the fantasy with an intrusion of a little reality specifically that it IS the blacks themselves that are the problem - as well as the black culture. Do a news search about all these "flash mob" riots where 70 kids break into a store and steal everything - The media doesn't mention they are black - yet ONLY blacks commit that crime, care to explain that?

  • @Jizzmonster Actually, yes you can. Let me ask you, who are the most impressionable people in our society? Young people. Who are the most exploited group traditionally in our society? Young people. And I KNOW that I said in my previous post that I said that we have some serious problems in our community. The HIV/AIDS crisis is the biggest problem that we face. It is an epidemic, yet the media rarely covers that. You know, a long time ago, Italians and Irish kids used to live in the ghettos

  • @Jizzmonster And commit a lot of crimes like that. And you mentioned a key demographic, "kids." I hate "hip hop culture" myself. Stop calling it "black" culture, because I see just as many white kids buying rap albums as I do black kids. And if you think that "blacks" are the problem, then you are saying that myself, a person who has never committed a crime, is college educated, and pay his taxes is more of a problem to society than the white corrupt power brokers on Wall Street?

  • @MIKESOWELL Those negative connotations are exploited and perpetuated by black entertainers (comedians, rap artists, filmmakers etc) who make a lot of their money from black audiences. Blacks can help themselves in generating a better image for their culture by not supporting these types of artists.

  • @smokingfast I agree with you, and a lot of these individuals I detest because I see them as true sellouts to our community. But their platforms are still presented to us by the media. We have to see these people and everything around them for what they are. I am so tired of hearing black comedians with the same old racial jokes. Where is the black Bill Hicks?

  • @MIKESOWELL

I absolutely agree! I am half US american and half german - I would not want to say I'm half black and half white - I have seen how blacks are portrayed in US media and how "they" are portrayed troughout europe. In the US the media often talks about "the black community". In europe there is no such thing as "black community" - exept maybe france - its is JUST the community and you might be black or whatever but you are THE community! In Europe its more about your religion!

  • @MIKESOWELL Media created? thes connatations are created for before the media exist. The media magnifies everything for rating. I think he just was trying to help, when he let the Indian woman to protest in the oscars it wasnt really good for his job.

  • @AleGatz

That is why he is........ The Godfather

  • @MIKESOWELL just to back up your argument there my friend. I have seen 1000 videos of young black men killing each other and threatening to kill their rival gang members. It took me almost a month of searching to find a video clip of a very articulate young black man, he was in a gang and wanting to LIVE AND LET LIVE!!! I doubt this young man is alone. The media bury these interviews because it scares us white folks that blacks and other races are just as smart and articulate and compassionate.

  • @infodisinfo You have completely missed his point.

  • @IamKesyerSoze well then, perhaps you would not mind explaining it to me?

  • Those things do occur in the black community but Blacks are not defined by any of that. Are whites defined by their sex/money/ego and violent rock music lyrics as well as lying, corrupt leaders? No. Just as Marlon was saying about the Native Americans, not all of them are drunks, lazy, etc. The media chooses to highlight certain aspects of a community. Your painting a community with a generalized brush.

  • @IamKesyerSoze I honestly wish I could agree with you, but I can't! I find the positive in people, all people to be the minority of any given group. In my job I come in contact with thousands, I do mean thousands of people a week. I can tell you with 100% certainty that the average American I meet is far from being a person of enlightenment and good. People suck, and part of it is from the conditioning of society, you're correct about that much.

  • Fat Faggot!

  • @GCL777 He wasn't fat then....

  • lmao, marlon said of the hollywood snobs your ruining our fantasy with a moment of reality, spot on the money marlon.

  • i don't know why but i find marlon brando so magnetic!

  • 8:50 --- and it still hasn't changed

  • "You're ruining our fantasy with an intrusion of a little reality" wow

  • @keeperblue Everything he said is dead on, including the line you commented about, only a great knowledgeable person would say that and to bad there isn't that many these days.

  • @keeperblue THIS WAS AN AWESOME STATEMENT, TOTALLY INSPIRED ME TO KEEP IT REAL EVERYDAY AND NOT GET CAUGHT UP WITH THE B.S. IN THIS WORLD!

  • Two dicks here.

  • Brando speaks slowly and forces the audience to recognize, he is a real person, with real feelings, problems, and issues. Now if only we could all have someone who would take the time to listen, or if we would take the time to look inside and listen to ourselves.

  • Um...no. But perhaps you could do something like jump off a cliff?

  • awkwaaaarrrdddd.....

  • @MickJamesable I think you're misinterpreting what's going on here. See below.

  • I know Marlon is highly respected, but in this he just comes across as a prick.

  • @djbassaus How does he come across as a prick? Compare this interview to the totally empty interviews on shows like Jay Leno, Conan, Ellen de Generes etc. God forbid that somebody should actually take their time and say something with content instead of pandering to a whooping, hyperactive dumbed down air headed US talkshow audience. Brando shines and Dick Cavett gives him the space to do so.

  • @novadrian On second watching I would like to retract my comment, whatever I picked up on originally that gave me that opinion I did not notice this time around.

I can't say I agree with your comment though regarding other shows, I have seen some fantastic interviews on the likes of Conan, Ellen de Generes etc, calling them empty seems as much of a generalisation as my calling Marlon a prick.

  • @djbassaus Strange, the same happened to me recently on a completely different clip and I wrote a message retracting my comment. What annoys me is that TV talk shows have been dumbed down so much and there is a fear that the audience will go away if anyone takes the time to say anything interesting....as if nobody had the

time or patience to listen anymore. Maybe there are exceptions on US TV but they don't get exported. I like the Actor's Studio interviews, but it's very specific...acting!

  • He makes a big deal of the fact he's thinking. He also has a weird habit of looking up at the ceiling every time. Maybe he had his answers written on cards there. Then again, I've heard that liars tend to look up and to left as well...

  • @rockhammer85 it's just Brando fuck head.

  • @pigeonpsycho

And this is just me telling you to go fuck yourself, cock-jockey. :)

  • @rockhammer85 go watch some more fucking adam sandler you brain dead nigger.

  • even at that age he was extremely good looking

  • Can someone pleaseeeee tell me what they are referring to in this interview.. I'm not very familiar with old movie stars or anything but if anyone would tell me I'd love to know!

  • i don't think it's tough. brando is brando, and dick should've tried to adjust to his guest..

  • Yay, Brando. What a hero. But my heart goes out to Dick. What a tough interview!!!!

  • Yay, Brando. What a hero.

  • Marlon put a mirror up to Hollywood and they didn't like what they saw. He got bashed both by his Hollywood peers and studios, but that's the price he was willing to pay for something he believed in.

This man was not only a fine actor, but a fine human being.

  • Something inside of me grows when I see the emergence of individuals like Brando out of the shadows. I am 21 and not attuned to many Brando movies other than Godfather of course, nevertheless I've never seen him in this light. In fact I'm not to sure why I'm righting this comment other than the fact that i feel compelled to enunciate my appreciation for this sort of approach to reality.

  • "theres before Brando and after Brando, when he dies, everybody moves up one"

  • @poopoos Jack Nicholson's Quote, Right? ^____^

  • like many actors, he is much more interesing in character than in real life.

  • don't forget Brando in The Teahouse of the August Moon

    "horrible" acting as an Asian

  • HAHAH MARLON BRANDO OWNED THIS INTERVIEW. RIP MARLON THANKS FOR ALL YOUR TALENT AND HUMANITY

  • A REAL HONEST AND NOBLE MAN

    WITH A GREAT TALENT,he was PURE,REAL

    not fake

  • What a legend !

  • 03:10, even nearly 40 years later they are still timorous to make fun of the blackstoday, but it okay to make fun of Native Americans ... well, if you can have a black prez then its okay to make fun of blacks ... Need a black mascot NFL football teams, NBA black mascot for sure, and MLB black mascot ... its open season!

  • @robfergusonjr what?

  • I'm 20 years old and he's my main role model. I'm finding it hard to see if there's anybody remotely near him in today's acting industry.

Today, actors/actresses are snobby or are full-on show offs. "Celebrity"; what does the word actually mean? Nothing!

  • @Vengeance4Me79 its not political , to be correct is truth .

  • thanks for talking about me an my mom an dad rameo an juliet

  • @BSANONYMOUS Congratulations, you cracked the case.

  • @BSANONYMOUS I'm white, you buffoon.

  • @BSANONYMOUS The appropriate compromise in a situation like that is to rewrite the sentence completely so it doesn't look like it was tapped out by one of those infinite typewriter monkeys. Also, it's 'you're cool', you jizz sock.

  • @BSANONYMOUS Genocide isn't a verb. Also, your mother's a whore.

  • @misterbizzones WOW!! You are an idiot. If you had a point, you certainly found a way to undermine it!!

  • @alumbo Okay. There were hundreds of nations in North America before white people got here. They weren't anything less than nations, despite their lack of flags or supreme courts or printing presses or whatever. Saying otherwise marginalizes the breadth and the impact of colonization. But who gives a shit, I'm not going to change some stranger's mind on YouTube. So I prefer to be rude and snarky. Until I read something smart, anyway.

  • @BSANONYMOUS I like that you say no nations existed here before the white man and then reference native Americans within the span of two sentences. Have fun being a goddamned moron for the rest of your life.

  • born to be a mega star. what an aura Brando has got

  • the greatest.

  • @BSANONYMOUS Yeah, pretend racism is coming just as soon as real racism disappears. O the plight of the white man! How we do toil!

  • poor marlon, he just didn't want to be caught up in the jokes and gags in this, he looked uncomfortable, much as I think he probably respected Dick, I think on some level he was just embarrassed. I like Dick, but Marlon was not playing ball so this was one tough interview for him. nonetheless, I love Marlon here, he is so adorable and pensive, natural and different.

  • What a guy!

  • my god being a wealthy movie star makes you odd.

  • @moobie1010 Nah, Marlon was odd even back when he was anonymous and broke.

  • Cavett reminds me of O'brien, the way they both make fun of themselves

  • cavett is just a liberal....now we have to feel sorry for the japanese because we werent nice to them during WWII...maybe Dick u couldve been at Bataan and apologized to them

  • He knows his stuff and what is really important

  • This is incredible. What a smart and astute guy. He was 40 years ahead of his time.

  • lol, dick is been a dick with his cheap gag questions.

  • RIP MARLON... YOU WILL ALWAYS BE THE GODFATHER IN OUR HEARTS..... we will sacrifice justin bieber....

  • @halo3vsbioshock By sacrificing Justin Bieber, we wouldn't get even a nail from Brando back! hehe

  • @halo3vsbioshock common brando deserves a better sacrifice trading brando fro bieber is like trading my afternoon poop for a steak dinner

  • @halo3vsbioshock common brando deserves a better sacrifice trading brando for bieber is like trading my afternoon poop for a steak dinner

  • I vote for this proposal.

  • @halo3vsbioshock ....to bring Marlon Brando back to life.

  • Shallow never likes the deep godfather.

  • The audience really annoyed me. Brando clearly wanted to have a serious, intelligent, deep conversation, but the audience kept looking for jokes.

  • @tzjc24 agree

  • @tzjc24

thats because peopel are idiots hehe

  • @tzjc24 Yeah, of course. This was after all a talk show. Not a political debate. However, he addresses that himself. I think he did it simply to rub the audience the wrong way

  • lol when Cavett says "where do they come from" at 7:57

  • A Man/Actor "Marlon Brando" was Ahead Of That Time ! He Had ALOT OF Heart and Strength to Speak his mind and Have Sasheen represent him to Decline the acceptance Of The Oscar for his role in the Godfather !

  • @jimmywires500 Your ma is a fat cunt. Her cunt is fat. And you came out of it. You fat cunt.

  • @JamesPopaloa You are ill and need help .. go directly to your neartest vetinarian and ask to be put to sleep !

  • @gofindyourmusic unkind! unkind sir!

  • respect!

  • I once heard that the definition of class is making others feel good in your presence. I must say, Dick Cavett has a lot of class.

  • Damn this guy talks slow! Hurry up Marlon! XD

  • dang he is HOT!

  • brando is a hero. but nevertheless he is as stereotyped as red bull in our collective memory. blame the media for reducing reality into a box. this is what we are watching in youtube. or blame yourself. get out, be not famous but at least yourself. be smoother than your heroes. make the world a better place without them. that's what b. says, i believe.

  • Sbucks555 I am a white 17yearold kid, i mean no offense to you or any fellow Americans. Stereotyping is a human weekness, this means that there will never be NO stereotypes. And the reason that I am writing is simply to say that I sincerly believe that the stereotypes made in the media are made with no offense intended to anyone. They are just made to serve a purpose and to put across one message or another.

  • @sirschmidtsallot You're 17, you are going to get older and one day realize that what you wrote is bs. You only believe that because that's what you were taught or learned somewhere, if we stop perpetuating this myth that everyone needs a label or stereotype attached to them then we can start to fully appreciate and understand our fellow human beings. But then again I'm only 24.
