Mick said that what they had during the Brian Howe era was a band, but it wasn't Bad Co. I guess Brian felt the same. He had the right vocal style for the band at that particular time. But that bluesy, ballsy, soulful sound that put Bad Co on the map just wasn't the flavour in the 80s and early 90s. The Brian Howe stuff was good, but the original band rocks out with heart and soul...the original quartet really is Bad Company! Ain't nothin' like the real thing...
@truthaintpretty Wow. You put it into words of what I was feeling. The later band had a good sound and it fit in with the time, but it wasn't Bad Co. Credit to the guys that they knew it and admitted it. Lesson learned.
I've met Simon Kirke twice he is such a nice guy, polite and down to earth thorough gentleman. He told me he doesnt even drink coffee, totally clean nowadays
Only really the two versions of Bad Co, and I was willing to accept the Howe version because that Nugent tracked "Tied Up in Love" was an instant pleaser for me, so with Howe's singing, and Bad Co rockers and ballads, there was no wrong note there, some weaker songs on occasion, but that happens to all bands, no matter who's in the band
I have been a fan of Bad Company since the last 23 years & believe Mick Ralphs is the true soul of Bad Company. However I am dismayed by how the band members discredit Brian Howe, call him names(at the same time producing not less than 4 albums with him). Much as I enjoy listening to Desolation Angels, Straight Shooter, so do I love their Dangerous Age, Holy Water albums. Bad Company never lost its soul under him. It seems a little bit childish to see them trying to wipe off Brian Howe's legacy.
@vgl50 Hi, their is no doubt Brian with the help of Foreigner's Mick Jones helped drag Bad Co into the AOR 80's, amazingly it's a well known fact that Ralphs was at odds with Howe at the end of the 1st tour for " Fame & Fortune" with Howe in one bus and the band in the other, He is a great singer, just way too differ'nt then Paul, it's the same problem as Van Halen, Dave vs Sammy, you can't have a CD BEST OF without some horrid jarring effect between the two, it's the same with BAD CO.
@tehlia77 Bad Co with Rodgers at that point was a by-gone era. So with new songs there and some old ones live, it pleased most fans I know of, I heard little complaint and I bought one of my last actual LPs as the one Holy Water! Still have the live CD as well, with Howe tracks
@vgl50 Howe is more of the Don Henly, Bob Catley( from MAGNUM )mold, even a touch of Richard Marx, even if Ralphs kept the 70's cowboy meets hard rock with blue eyed soul sound, it still wouldnt' sound like the Bad Co we know, Howe's voice was built for AOR & hard rock, Metal, not Blue eyed soul. For me I think because of the huge change in style, sound & new members it's a totally NEW band, when I do a BEST OF with Howe in Bad Co I call them Bad Co 2 !
@tehlia77 You refer to Don Henley of the Eagles. Like Paul Rodgers, one of the best musicians ever to grace the planet. Brian Howe doesn't sing metal just cause he sang with Ted Nugent...Hard Rock though, yes!
@vgl50 Out of the complaint here, I've never heard fans complain about how he can't sing, and rock out. The ballads were choice ones too. He said he's not Paul Rodgers, and that's the simple truth in any given band situation
Thanx SO much for putting this up, I've always wanted to see this, great stuff some of those concert clips, and photo's, now all I've gotta get is some 70's Bad Co, in concert DVD's, MitiC44 you dont have the Journey - Behind the music? want to see that one too.
